In this time of globalisation, you would expect a bit of flexibility in the maintenance planning. Releasing an expansion on a holiday, Whit Monday, is a bit odd and denies the EU playerbase.
(for the record, Whit Monday is a global christian holiday and a fixed holiday in next countries: Antigua and Barbuda, Anguilla, Austria, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Dominica, France, Germany, Greece, Grenada, Hungary, Iceland, Ivory Coast, Luxembourg, Monaco, Montserrat, the Netherlands, Norway, Romania, Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Solomon Islands, Switzerland, Togo and Ukraine.) ... I don't want to buy a drink for all those ppl playing ESO off the above listed countries
I know they do stop things for 2 major religious holidays as we know it; Easter and Xmas - and let me just say, although globally celebrated - they are largely commercial holidays who have all but lost their religious meaning and most people who celebrate it don't care about Christianity. Pentecostal monday - on the other hand is purely religious - it's doesn't have a huge commercial aspect tied to it, and so nobody is shutting down their company for it except in countries that mandate it.
And you highlighted that in your own post - it's a CHRISTIAN holiday. IT has nothing to do with Europeans, and everything to do with Christians - I talked to some of my European buddies who have this in their country and they said flat out its not something they celebrate - its for religious people. They just get a day off because conveniently the government decides so - but many European nations have also stopped giving it as a day off for one reason... it's purely religious.
I could sit here and make arguments all day - it doesn't matter because:
1. Somebody will always have a counterargument - and they'll always think they're right, as do I - so bickering won't work for any side.
2. ZOS just doesn't care. They planned their release for tomorrow, they're preparing the servers for a massive influx of players. They're a business, not a holiday convention. And regardless of having a European playerbase - their employees are working in the US, where they observe US holidays. Why would they start throwing more crap into the mix?
3. Get over it and play something else on your day off.
LOL no, actually a lot of Europeans are agnostic or atheist, if they weren't they would be spending the day praying not being at home wanting to play games on a precious paid day off from work. The point is that it is a public holiday - ie. a long weekend, like you have in the US for important holidays for you, like 4th July and stuff, and the game should not be down on the public holiday of a long weekend that affects a lot of the customers, and during the day/evening at that.
Every *** country on Earth has its own public holidays. How hard is it to grasp that the developers are working in the US, and therefore they observe US Public holidays?
If not, how do you determine which countries public holidays should fit in the mix? Because it's pretty well all-or-none elsewise there will be complaints from somebody. If they start making exceptions for Europe... middle east will want it... asia will want it... oceania will want it.... They aren't planning their maintenance to upset you. Quit taking it so personally.
This post is about the PC maintenance not console. The date affected is 5th June on EU side of the world, XBOX maintenance is 17 hours behind it.

Penetecostal monday - on our side of the world, in North American, its called Whit Monday but nobody except extremely fundamental religious people celebrate it. It's nowhere near in the league of Xmas where its expanded to be a social and commercial holiday - Whit Monday is still 100% religious, that's why we don't observe it. It would be like expecting ZOS not to do maintenance on Good Friday, Ash Wednesday or a million other trivial religious holidays. Should we stop maintenance all through Ramadan as well? Where does it end?
Just my 2 cents, but Zenimax being an AMERICAN company, should observe AMERICAN holidays - not the rest of the world's, or else we'll end up in a circle jerk of never doing anything - because let's face it, it's a holiday somewhere, for somebody, for something - every single day.
They don't need a maintance to turn Morrowind on, it's already working right now.
not on consoles it isn't... holy *** people will argue about anything
Do you think all PC players are actually on now lmao? Wait until tomorrow there will be a massive influx of players - all servers - PC AND CONSOLES - are being updated to prepare for this... anybody denying that is dense.
I also don't recall OP saying this is about PC maintenance only - maybe go back and read his post your forum edgelord
Of course it is about PCs, s/he said "maintenance will probably last a whole day", plus the holiday is today Monday, the XBOX maintenance is tomorrow which is the 6th Tuesday. Therefore, it's not the XBOX one s/he is talking about. You should go read it again.
Also yes, PC players are usually one at this time (when no maint), especially in EU today, CAUSE IT'S THE DAYTIME ON A PUBLIC HOLIDAY. Go out for a nice lunch on your holiday, ESO will be here when you get back.

I'm on PS4, not Xbox, and the date is clearly today. You're an idiot. IT actually is for Xbox as well - I live in EDT - so it's June 5 for both consoles. Maybe you need to reread.
Maintenance for the week of June 5:
• [IN PROGRESS] PC/Mac: North American and European megaservers for patch maintenance – June 5, 4:00AM EDT (8:00 UTC)
• Xbox One: North American and European megaservers for patch maintenance – June 5, 9:00PM EDT (June 6, 1:00 UTC)
• PlayStation®4: North American and European megaservers for patch maintenance – June 5, 9:00PM EDT (June 6, 1:00 UTC)
• ESO Store and Account System for maintenance – June 6, 3:00AM EDT (7:00 UTC)
If its such an important "holiday" why would you be sitting at your computer playing games and not spending it with family and freinds?

No idea why the mostly secular West has a free day in religious holliday but ok, however it doesn't mean all Europe has it. In PL we have holiday only on Sunday. On Monday we work hard, so stop complaining.

Look, nothing against other countries but ESO and entire The Elder Scrolls IP was solely developed by an American company.
Their employees are American.
You cannot complain when you play another countries game and they dont cater to the holidays and traditions of your country. American company's employees are American and their time off and holidays revolve around that country.
Just relax and spend some time with friends and family in real life.

They're preparing to launch a *** expansion, they have bigger tasks at hand then pandering to 'European' holidays (which we actually do have here, just nobody expects the world to stop for it). Do you really expect them to just not release the product they've had slated for over half a year now? Do you REALLY expect that? Or are you just making a fool of yourself for no reason?

If anything most people should be happy it's on a holiday - because holidays are generally reserved for family time - but we all know that's not actually the case here, a holiday in your eyes is just the equivalent of a day off work - and you're mad that maintenance (which is actually to set up launch of a product) coincides with day off.
Sorry you lost your family or w/e but that's not Zenimax problem and expecting them to bring their business to a halt so you can play a game on your holiday is just sad and pathetic.
Nice rant, but...
Why shouldn't a global company, offering a global product played by a global membership, be aware of issues beyond their own national borders?
Yes, Morrowind has been lined-up for release for a while now, but why didn't they give that release date a little more consideration? Those national holidays have been in place for a bit longer than ESO has been in business
A bit of forethought would have avoided this problem, and guess what... nobody would have complained about a release date one week later.
Particularly if ESO had used that extra week wisely fixing bugs...
It doesn't affect me because we don't have that holiday in the UK, and I have early access to Morrowind in any case, but I see no reason to get all bent out of shape because other people aren't happy about the timing. Why so angry?
Simple - ZOS isn't a "global company" - they're an American company that provides a global product, big difference, case closed.
Global product, global playerbase, global infrastructure - EU server in Germany - kind of hints at global company...
Apple is incorporated in the US, but is a global company.
So, case reopened...
And again, why so angry? Does it make any difference to you?
I'm not angry - I did edit my response to your to explain this - I just think it's pathetic somebody is going to sit there and call an entire company "low" for not observing their holiday - why are you playing devil's advocate?
Do you also think Zenimax should stop any updates/releases/maintenance during Ramadan?
Ramadan 2017 began in the evening of
Friday, May 26
and ends in the evening of
Saturday, June 24
If so - then your joking idea of releasing a week earlier would have cause problems for somebody else - and it's a cycle that would never end. It is ALWAYS a holiday somewhere, for somebody.
Zeinmax Studios is based in America, its employees observe American holidays - it's REALLY not difficult to grasp.
