Do you use pre-made builds, or make your own?

This is a subject I've discussed many times with my friends, but I would love to hear from more people!
Do you create your own builds? Or do you use Deltia's builds? Or a bit of both?
I'd love to hear why as well! I know some people take pride in making their own, while others (like myself) use Deltia's builds as they're decent and straight-forward.

As a beginner i used Deltias build as a template to start building upon. Nowdays i know my class and the game more and do my own builds

So, why is Deltia a standard? No competent raider takes his builds seriously, or the ones that we do are just copies of the meta.

He tries to take the meta, and add his personal twist to it, usually making it worse.

hes a good as a starter guide, but yeah Deltia is a bad word these days

you will deft be more satisfied with your own build that fits your gamestyle in the end

Deltia (or any other streamers) builds were useful when I started out. For anyone that is starting out, I would recommend using his starting/leveling builds. After that, most streamers (not just Deltia) focus just on one aspect, be it trials, pve, whatever. Fengrush Stam Sorc was about the best build to use in any environment.

However you know your playstyle best. Besides that, most builds are very similar, so the minor tweaks to the play style is something you would know.

I can't answer your question as I've been absent from the community for a long time, but I am also interested in knowing why. I know (or knew) a few people that treated Deltia as gospel, and others that outright despised him.

I look at different builds to get ideas and to keep up with patch notes and theory crafting because I don't have time to do all that myself. I usually watch Alcast because I find his videos relevant and focused on the topic with clear explanations. Also, he gives alternatives to gear for the build in case you don't have the BiS, which I really like since I don't do a lot of dungeons and prefer just to pvp when I have time.

All that said, I basically have my own play style which works best for me because I'm used to it. However, I get really good ideas from knowledgeable players and I often incorporate those into my builds.

I like trying out skills to see what works for me. Which means I'm not necessarily the most efficient, but I have fun while trying stuff and learning why certain choices work better.

How I make my builds:

Do I like using X ability? Or would X ability be useful with the current set up? If yes, that goes on the bar.

I don't care about meta. I don't care about maxing dps. I care about whether or not it helps me survive and play the way I want.

Unlike many others, Deltia actually made beginner builds.

You know, the kind of builds someone that just bought the games looks for. New players are not going to be using VO, or Rearming Trap, or Maelstrom weapons. Advice on builds like that is useless to new players.

IMO, Deltia should have sticked with beginner builds, it's what he was better at. And his builds did make ESO seem like a more welcoming game. Sad to see him go.

I'm sorry to tell you that deltia b**** quit, no I mean still plays but doesn't play? Left? Kinda left? I have no idea and just don't care but he says he's not making content and is playing starwars now so with the new dlc coming very soon all his builds will be out of date [snip]

If you really want to learn about combat mechanics in order to work on your own builds (the meta is there, yes, but in my opinion it's better to know how the game works combat wise to know how to build what works better for you) i really suggest you to have a look on Gilliamtherogue channel.

Very good and insightful content there for sure!

I always get WoW fankids throwing a fit when I say this....but by and large in ESO "BiS" means someone is trying to sell you gear or use you for a gear run (yes, some acceptions, but not many). This game thumbs its nose at cookie cutter crap like that.

That being said....always have preferred Alcast.

I make my own, but I try to do it in an informed way. I like to search out information from people who seem to have an actual understanding of the math and mechanics involved and work from there. I don't care who's build and rotation most people are copying at the time unless that information has something actually useful to me.

I use my own builds I buy a game to play it myself not have someone tell me how to play it, I will never understand why people think some one with a YouTube channel or a stream know more than they you do, I guess if you don't have a lot of time to play this would be a good idea for tips to make things move along faster, but games don't last long enough as it is these days, part of the fun for me is working my own build and sometimes you will be surprised there are good build that are not fotm or meta build that will get the job done just as good

I don't watch videos of people doing dungeons or raid, unless my group gets stuck and just cannot figure it out, game play to me is a lot more satisfying if my group figures it out but on a rare occasions I will have to take a look at someone's strategy.

I like Deltia's builds, but I will take the build then change it around to suit my play style. End product is usually fairly different to the orig. The orig builds are a great reference tho.

I make my own, but I "use" Deltia's builds against anyone who carbon copies them and brings them to Cyro. Easy to predict means easy to counter and easy to kill.
It was nice to see him put so much effort into helping beginners who were completely lost when they started playing. Starting with anyone else's build and modifying it as you evolve as a player isn't a bad way to go about it.

I make my own. If you're strictly going by what someone else has come up with, in a sense, you're not playing the game anymore, just repeating what another has done.

I tend to use the big named builds as a reference from time to time, just for comparison.

When you see that you've both come to the same/similar conclusion by your own determination it's a good indicator you're on the right track.

I feel that everyone else's builds are what they came up with that works for them, and some share it in hopes that others would feel the same way. However when I try them I am hopelessly lost and end up doing better with whatever I came up with that works best for me personally, than a build suggested by others.

Deltia? deltas builds suck- seriously. they dont fit my play style anyway, i find them cumbersome to farm, cumbersome to play and unenjoyable. i enjoy fengrushs stam sorcs- and alcasts, and kodis though kodis are typically all the same skill wise. what they have in common is that they are fast, fluid active and fun builds to play that emphasise aggressive gameplay and high skilled gameplay. thats how i like to play anyway, with alot of movement ,dodge rolling, and stamina generally.
