Long life left in this one yet, even with the bad dev's they are lucky to have a franchise that people are loyal to. Even soso mmo's are lasting 10 years it seems.

According to Facebook: as soon as Skyrim 2 comes out.
Really we do it without like, the musical instruments. This is the only musical: the mouth. And hopefully the brain attached to the mouth. Right? The brain, more important than the mouth, is the brain. The brain is much more important.

They could drag ESO out for quite a long time with only 20 people subscribing and a handful of others buying crowns. Imagine the amount of work that modders can get done in their free time, compared to what someone might get paid, to regurgitate some assets here and call it a DLC. EZ $$

Even bad MMOs are getting 10 year runs these days . Some even longer . There's no way to say how long a good title will last . Not in the foreseeable future would be best option .

Not really wishing the game to die but I'd like at some point a rewriting of the shaders and general graphical concept. It never pleased me how cartunish the game looks, to my understanding it is very different from the other titles. If you remove every TES reference you could easily sell it for any other title.

MMOs tend to die slow deaths. Even the worst MMOs can survive for a minimal 5 years and ESO is far from the worst, despite my personal feelings on the matter.

I'd give it another 5 years at the most though, before people get sick of the expired milk ZOS is funneling down people's throats.

People said the same about SWTOR and bioware turned that around extremely fast.

Regardless of everyones point of view on a game like SWTOR and its "problematic" history. There is no question right now that its still super popular and bringing in quite a bit of revenue.

Too be fair this is one of the better looking MMO's we've ever seen. Even in comparison to a lot of big titles in terms of cartoonish, The old republic and WoW take the lead in terms of cartoon visuals. Final Fantasy as well.

One would wonder, with a financial powerhouse like ZeniMax, this game could well continue for years and years. It might be more of a concern IF ZOS started producing another title, but until that happens, I would imagine ZeniMax would maintain ESO for many years to come considering it's the solo MMO offered by the company. Even if/when TES VI comes out ZOS will still continue to maintain ESO since TES VI and ESO are developed my completely separate corporate entities.

On a different topic, WHY do some people refer to TES VI as "Skyrim 2"? Skyrim was Skyrim, it was a game title, not a game franchise. That's like me saying, "When are they coming out with Dragon Age Inquisition 2?", since DAI was the only DA game I'd played... when in reality the next installation of the series will be Dragon Age 4.

    Define "Die Out"

A lot of MMO games decrease in popularity but still continue to be profitable for a long time.

Despite what players think, I see Zenimax doing a lot in terms of breaking the MMO toxic mold. Sure, they follow profitable trends that other MMOs do, but they also do a lot that bucks the trends. Some of it works, some of it doesn't.

I think it will stay a long time, eventually they may have to come out with a ESO 2 but I don't think it will be stopping. (as long as this next patch, ala Morrowind, doesn't ruin the game)

I'm not really sure about my pick. Its just with the original launch, the back and forth with balancing and such, I think they're shortening the lifespan. I think it will last a long time but I just don't see EverQuest age.

I don't want to say never, but I think this game will last a lot longer than many assume. ZOS pulled it from the brionk of destruction multiple times, and they clearly know who to keep the game profitable, and how to keep a reasonable player base. I think it has a lot of staying power.

    Already dead for me.

I haven't logged in to the forums in a week (used to be daily), haven't played in a month.
    Unsubbed my 2 eso+ accounts.
Which reminds me - I need to see about canceling my morrowind pre-order.
I have a beta invitation but I have absolutely 0 interest in even trying it. That makes me sad.

Will the game die? Doubtful. Though if you compare the number of twitch streamers at a given time 'to a game like WoW, ESO has probably 1% of the number of streamers that wow has.

My wife complains that I never listen to her. (Or something like that.)
    -- I'm a one man smurf zerg!

    My ESO addons:
Midnight - Find out when midnight is so that you can check for ww/vamp spawn.
Goto - Adds a tab to the map pane allowing you to teleport to a friend, guildmate, or groupmate for free.

I'd give ESO 3-4 more years. 2 more years of momentum. The remaining two holding on to whatever player base that's left. A lot changes in 3-4 years... ESO will soon meet their competitors.

They've already met their competitors. WoW, FF Online, Guilds Wars 2, etc. They all stand against the competition, and with good numbers. I'd also like to note that some other MMOs have been going for years, and still are good for new and old players alike.

In all honesty, until their publisher sees them as useless or somehow runs out of cash (people will never quit buying Fallout Shelter Lunchboxes), I see them sticking around for a long time.

They haven't met any competitors on console yet. ESO is winning on console for MMO's.

As Guild Wars veteran, I am truly disappointed they didn't make a console version for GW2. I probably would have never started this game. Arenanet truly care about their players

I admit never is my hope...my actual guess would be about 10 years or so.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

FF Online, Destiny (if you consider it an MMO), and NeverWinter are all on console. Let's not also forget that all gamers are a demographic for ESO, while MMO-goers are a subdemo. So there's always players to steal away from either side.

For the GW note you mentioned: Or maybe it's their publisher still coping with how bad WildStar is, and they need the money elsewhere. I've never played GW2, so I can't have an opinion on that specifically.

I simply dont care. Its just a game... Ran by mad company and their minions:) Dont get me wrong, I love ESO but every patch more and more exp players is leaving, and without them this game is gonna be crap. So sooner or later this game will share the fate of many others, like Aion. Once amazing game, now its just a cow that is milked till last drop of life. Respect your player base or you will end quicker than you think.

i think it will be soon. they started to loose their hardcore players. in twich they are getting watched by 10-100 people(thats is very very few people for a "best mmo of year" game...

and with last changes they are going to loose many people too... personally after i play Morrowind and test the changes as DPS class i got so bored. dungeons: are not fun Trial: even it is new but cuz of play style all became not fun...

play style got slow and boring ... with heavy attack and new sustain stuff...

I wish it were, because SWTOR is the game I will most likely go to if the current shambles on the PTS goes live.

That said, now SWTOR has got rid of a Lead Producer that wants to make the game he wants, and got a Lead Producer that seems to want to make a game the players want I do have some hope for SWTOR.
