It's complicated. I consider a person to be causal if they don't take time to learn anything deeper than what's on the surface. Normally this isn't big of a deal, most games do a decent job of showcasing the basics and onward, but ESO doesn't. So there is a large gap between even the floor and the middle, let alone the ceiling. For the majority of content that doesn't matter. Then suddenly in dungeons the 'it doesn't matter what attack I spam' approach is not longer adequate. All at once the lack of effort put into a synergistic setup smacks players around.

Nothing in the game prepares a player for dungeons and especially not endgame. I think that's in part lazy development, but at the same time the cost of so much player choice combined with so low a ceiling. Not just non-max/min or unoptimized, player's have a lot of freedom to be genuinely bad. Then game strives to conceal indications of inefficiencies. There's not even a brush over of combat roles. Overland content is easy, and level scaling removes a directly visible need for character progression. Combat is clearly based around rotations, but unless a player knew about this concept from another place, ESO would happily leave them none the wiser. Even damage numbers were not added until later.

So while I would agree causals are a 'problem', at the same time I would also say ESO feigns one experience and later swaps it for another.

Legit had a cp 300 healer the other day bail on me and my wife because there was a cp 100 something in the group for vCoA 2

Me and my wife are around 800 cp and I can pretty much pull off roughly 45k single just with her support, in v Dungeons

So we went ahead and trio'd it and got speed achievement for the little guy :D

When I see someone using Bone Shield it makes me laugh as I click "Vote to Kick".

Maybe they had too much stam and needed to get rid of it?

I thought that's what dodge rolling is for? Come to think of it we should probably just rename it to rolling*

*on a rare occurrence, rolling might dodge an attack.

I understand where you're coming from. I'd consider myself a casual. Been playing for a couple years now off and on and I'm just now getting close to 600 cp. That's said, it makes me nervous when I see someone with low cp in the harder vet dungeons. The first thing that runs through my mind is this is gonna be painful. I really hate waiting in the queue for 30 minutes only to have to quit and re queue because some cp100 thought he could get away with pulling 10k dps in vwgt. I don't get why 3 players who put effort in to learn rotations, grind gear, and understand the dungeons mechanics should have to deal with that. Maybe veteran dungeons should be locked at cp160+ or at least locked until the player has completed the normal version of the dungeon.

If you want to clear your pledges fast and efficiently, group finder is never the way. Join a guild. Make some friends and run with them when they are available. I really wish people would stop expecting group finder to be something it just can't be by design. It pulls from a pool of every player that clicks a button. That's your requirement. Can you click a button. If that requirement is good enough for your potential group, then go ahead. Just please stop with the expectation that you will get a group that can even get past the first boss in a DLC vet dungeon. The players that can clear vet DLC dungeons are very rarely using group finder themselves, making it even harder to pull a capable group from that pool.

Group finder isn't broken, it just can't pull something out of thin air that isn't there to begin with.

@Gordon906 There was another thread talking about a matching based group finder, which would make all the best players ideally join up with the best etc.

I like this idea; maybe not skill-based per se, but CP based, in a range, so that CP 100's tend to be grouped with other CP 100-ish players. This works very well in other games I've played; as you progress, the dungeon gets easier, not only because you're higher level but because your entire team tends to be.

I don't think this is a good idea. The whole issue with people not doing well in vet dungeons is one of education, either in how to play your role better, or the dungeon mechanics, or the difficulties of various dungeons.

If you pair people who haven't been player as long together, the chance of frustration and quitting the game are higher, and as annoying as it is sometimes to have a DPS in a vet dungeon doing 8k damage, some percentage of those people will grow to become decent players if given the chance.

You want new blood in the game, and this will reduce the chances of people sticking it out.

Back in my day Pledges came out around the same time the Vet system did and the majority of people running them weren't even remotely close to being V16.

I haven't since run a vet pledge, nor am I aware of any changes that might've been made to them, but if they're the same as they've always been then I can't understand at all this insistence that people be like CP300 just to run pledges.

So someone enlighten me on what I'm missing here as someone who hasn't played the game since then.

The resistance, HP and damage mobs and bosses do have been significantly increased in One Tamriel patch for veteran dungeons. The normal versions today are close to veteran ones back then.
Veteran dungeons are far harder than before we had cp, but then veteran dungeons was the only game in town at max level.
We did not clear all of them however.
Normal dungeons is harder to determine as they was leveled.
I have been in some groups who failed normal but it was dlc dungeons and very bad players, low dps and did not understand mechanism.

Simply add some undaunted level to the requirement for veteran, however on account so someone who has done MoL HM don't have to do lots of normal on his alt because no undaunted level.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

If you're a casual than why would you do dlc vet dungeons? This cp34 guy was so pissed because he failed to defeat a boss many times in vet ruins of mazzatun(we left because gear repair cost) that he private messaged me and wished that I get "gunned down" then he ignored :P not even once.

There are some really really really bad players in ESO for sure. I know casual players that know what they are doing. They actually look things up and work towards decent gear and know what rotations are. I have to say though, there are a crapton of really bad players though. I was tanking for a group in BC2 vet last night and the DPS was so low. I swear it took 20 minutes to get the large daedroth boss down. After we killed it I just left the group. I'm sorry man, I cannot waste a crapton of time in a dungeon with people that don't care to learn how to play. These players were between 250-300 CP

I used to run pugs every day normally with high cp players that 90% of the time turned what should have been a simple exercise into an epic struggle.

Then I joined my first guild recently, a casual, newly formed one so I could enjoy the game without stress....and it turns out lower cp players in a casual guild without the need for any teamspeak, can happily run dungeons with the minimum of fuss.

    I will never pug again.

They did in RS, "total level worlds". It's actually pretty effective. The elitists stay happy with their toxicity and it acts as a containment world for everyone else. (I personally don't use it because I'm not a sadist).
