How good is chudan?

my opinions on Chudan are that its not good, but its not bad.

on one hand, its a bit liberating to not have to slot Hardened Armor as a DK. it frees up a precious skill slot and lets me slot more utility or self heals.

on the other hand, blood spawn is just really good, and the 2pc proc is better than Hardened armor and it procs rather often. .

Despite what the top tanks here saying, I still personally like it as for aforementioned reasons of not having to recast armour and the extra skill slot, and being in a rotation, there is no need for extra ulti. Just keep green dragon blood up to recieve healing recieved bonus which is always on my bar anyway as an oh *** heal also.

I use several sets though depending on situation.

I'ts not very good for DK tanks because the 2pc is the exact same as spike armor. Anything that gives major resolve and major ward won't stack with chudan's.

Templars have channeled focus which also provides the same buffs.

I can't think of nightblade or sorc abilities which provide major ward and major resolve off the top of my head, so maybe its more useful for those classes.

You're kidding right? You get both those buffs from a passive for using any ability in the shadow tree, like path or image. For a sorc lightning form and it's morps give it. Nightblades already don't have to waste a slot on it and if you slot shadow image you will get minor maim as a bonus.

I use Chudan overworld on my heavy Templar tank so that I can back-bar Restoring Focus for more situational use.

He'd probably be a little more gank-proof than my other characters, too. I'll have to run him in IC for a little bit and see how that goes.

Oh my god I had this same argument with the forum dk tank squad when chudan came out and got shouted down. It has it's uses, personally I find pirate more helpful since 30% dr is greater than added defense which gets cut off. Dks love bs because they are the worst class to generate ult.

Yes, it is, the 1piece is useless, and the 2nd pieces extra resistance should not be relied upon and in a well formed group with 4 warhorns going out you want to stay in rotation and not just blast your horn when you get it so in almost every instance the ulti gen is not needed. So I say again. Bloodspawn is overrated.

I tried to convey earlier in the thread (but it got buried) that using 1 piece of Chudan, 1 piece of Pirate Skeleton and stack it with Major Resolve and Major Ward is better than just using the two pieces of Chudan for the resistance bonuses.

If on top of that you add Armor Master with the buffs being given by the heavy armor ability, you get 13k+ of resistances.

This can allow for a more tanky build without even using Heavy Armor, given that this increase will easily reach the cap with other armor types.

I see what you are going for but I think you would lose to much going Armor Master and especially without Heavy Armor. In trials the only reason not to go heavy armor is the use Powerful Assault with Alkosh so you wouldn't want the armor master there to mess up that great buff/debuff combo for off tanks and as a Main tank you could just as well not use Armor Master and stick to other strong heavy armor sets and you would be fine with resistance. I agree however that 1p Chudan and 1p Pirate Skeleton is not a bad idea. I love the idea of combining the 1piece bonuses to get something you otherwise wouldn't. Which is why I run 1p Chokethorn and 1p Shadowrend for the extra magicak recovery so I can be more effective with my buffs and Crowd Control with chains and talons and other.

Dropping the DK armor buff removes two things. It removes 12% increased healing

If you use Green Dragonblood you don't lose the 12% increased healing from passive, AND you have another 8% more healing from the skill itself. 20% more healing doesn't seem so bad to me. And on top of that you have major fortitude and major endurance.

    @Surak73

Would seem silly to keep dragon blood up 100% of the time.

Considering I've never seen a tank run it in vMoL and certainly not in vMoL HM a t doesn't seem to be considered a worthy set. Have never heard it brought up in any serious tanking discussion.

As I think I said earlier, maybe a new tank get by used to everything else or player that doesn't tank much.

Im sayng that if a set is good or overpowered I wouldn't call it a noob set and set it aside just because you think you're too good for it. If it is overpowered and it is superior to other sets I would definitely use it instead of hating it.

I carry a few sets with me on my DK tank, Lord Warden, Blood Spawn and even Malubeth, each one has it's uses depending on the situation. I like the idea of Chudan and being able to open up a slot, but realistically the only skills I'd put in there so I don't lose the healing bonus from Draconic passives would be Dragon Blood. But that itself costs more Magicka to cast than Hardened Armor that it makes me question if it would actually be worth it.

I've got a Sturdy shoulder and Infused helm both in heavy that I've been hanging onto. Might play around and see if I can find a situation it would be useful in, but it doesn't seem like there would be where Warden could do just as good a job.

Good or overpowered ? You got me all wrong . I am not saying it shouldn't be used because it is overpowered or something . I am saying don't use it because it is crap . It has absolutely no use for PvE . It is far from being superior to other sets .

You really don't seem to get it do you? Sure you did it, but it would have been easier for your group if you ran something else. A set that helped with debuffs or other buffs. You're builds is buffing you and only you, you are even having your off tank run the Ebon, while he could be running something else, like powerful assault or alkosh, or both. So yea, you are super tanky, and I must say good on your group for doing HM with such a selfish tank.

So on average bloodspawn uptime is less then 40% for trial bosses even those with adds, kinda worthless.. Ult is useless outside of a rotation and we are already at armor cap to armor is useless too.. Chudan give you another slot that you can use to help support your group. In @Bowser 's case lets him be lazy with one bar for tanking and second bar for basically whatever he feels like doing..

Chudan is an exceptionally nice monster set.

It gives you back a skill slot and takes away a buff you have to refresh. Which depending on the content you run, who you run it with, and how familiar you are with the content can save yours and the groups life.

The are "better" sets but it's really nice and the extra health is awesome because you can slot a tri glyph, stamina glyph, or magica glyph and not loose anything.

Or you know actually, use my back bar. And I think the extra 12% healing received from using Hardened armor warrants using it, especially in such a heal heavy fight. As well, all you need to be low maintenance is to go heavy into block cost. And even in the next update we will be able to sustain just fine, just got to not spam skills unnecessarily.
