First trial I was told the rules are if the trail leader is looking for gear and someone else gets it then they have to give it to the leader. Asking a few questions I also found that you had to be an officer in the guild to lead a group. So I didn't even make it to the first mob before I was out of the guild. I still have a few members from that guild on my ignore list.
The guilds I am in now if it is a training run we loot along the way and the leader usually takes the time to point out where chests and heavy sacks might spawn. If it is not a training run then we wait until the end and go back to loot.
Either way usually the person opening the chests is someone trying to get the legerdemain line leveled.
While I think it's selfish to focus on the guild leader, most progressive guilds will give sets needed for certain roles to those people who play those roles (ie mending goes to the healers). If its just a random run that you guys don't run together often, I don't consider anyone priority unless they are willing to pay.
Maybe I'm misunderstanding you and apologies if I am, but no one should be paying for anything in group dungeons. If not needed by the finder, the gear is nothing but vendor trash once the trade timer runs out. Never understood why people refuse to sell an item for say 10k, because they think it's worth 20k. No one buys it so instead it gets sold to the vendor for 20g or something like that. People who do that are either very spiteful or just greedy *** in the first place.
I've never paid for any item in a group dungeon nor have I ever accepted any gold. If i don't need, it's just good to give it to those to will use it.
Same goes for those who organise these runs/farms. If they clearly state they want/need item X, if found, before starting off and i needed it too, I'd still hand it over to the person who initially organised the farm/run.

When running trials, the rules in my guild are:
1. You do not touch chests or heavy sacks until the trial is over...period. If you loot a heavy sack but no one else does the sack disappears after a certain time period. Everyone else loses out because you looted one sack. Same goes for chests as far as I know.
2. Whoever has the loot passives opens the chests, to increase odds of getting better loot for everyone. Not sure if it is a myth or not but why mess with fate?
I wouldn't have necessarily kicked them from the group but would have stated the rules at the beginning so they were clear. Why should the trial take three steps from forever because one person cannot stop themselves from looting chests?

Now i was doing vet hel ra with guildies that i met about a month ago we are basically approaching the last boss and someone in group chat said "CHEST"
So we all run to chest and outa nowhere the leader of group says "who opened chest?"
Player admitted he opened it and the leader of group KICKED EM LOL.
I had NOOO IDEA WHY until i asked why was he kicked? The leader replied "i have my loot passive for chests i want to open all of them".
Lol this guy or girl got kicked for opening a chest !! I thought i was mean but holy moly can u imagine how it would feel getting kicked for opening a chest?
Hope everyone has a nice day

ALSO may i add 2 more rules these are mine when running trials
3) Items that you get are linked in the chat
4) items you do not need are to be given away and not sold to make profit ( other person can offer you money/ trade its up to them ) but you don't link" VO chest in divins 100k" if you don't need it give it away
