Aestethics is not the same as ethics.

ESO is a violent game. Violent people like cool. Just look at the military. That's why there is a distinction between elegance and beauty. The former is often on the dark side. True beauty is always good.

And to those who try to hide behind our mad uncle: Sheo was fun, the toy crown not so.

Male orcs running around in wedding dresses. I feel you on that. Clothes should be gender specific.
This is a fantasy game, not suppose be realistic. I wear a suit on my Templar Healer. Suit is all cloth and my gear is 7 light. Is that realistic enough for you? It's better than wearing a silly robe. I don't see anything wrong with wear clothing during comBat.

Fantasy should stay true to its own Lore. But if you like ESO to be like Terry Pratchett instead of Tolkien, then we just have to agree to disagree. The majority wins in either case, because ESO follows the money, the consumer.

However, banning civilian clothing during combat is only a quick fix, because the main problem is that the devs often create costumes and armor sets which looks like crap.

Wouldn't say riding into battle like that is lore-breaking, except for the fact that she's not actually queen/emperor.

I've yet to see the masses of manly Orcs in wedding dresses, but I generally don't mind what other people are wearing.

Mind you that if there was a way to morph the mostly ugly gear that we tend to have to in order to, you know be competitive then maybe you'd be on to something there. That said, I can fire off lightning from my finger tips on a whim I'm in no position to judge what anyone looks like in that wedding dress on a certain bridge.

The point of this thread is to ask ESO to stop creating "funny" gear, before the game becomes a game of clowns.

"Civilian clothing should not be allowed in combat"

As long as it is PvE - it does not matter.
In PvP - it is completely different story.

So.. I am fighting against a dude with "goblin" disguise...
And I have no clue what class / race is he / she or what armour is he / she using. In other PvP games (mobas for example) you know what to expect from your enemy just by looking at them. In eso it is a complete mystery - until you will start combat.
One time I had situation against other player with a robe & staff... So I thought.. Oh, he / she is using light armour, so even if it is with impen trait I will still do some dmg.. right ? ?

Well nope.. it was dude in heavy armour using disguise to pretend to have light armour and he / she was a tank with ice staff... :o

Before I poked my nose on the forums here tonight, I literally just got done dying my khajiit's harem outfit purple-white-gold to match her new crown, because I thought it looked cute and fun and it's a good excuse to change up her usual color scheme for a while. As someone who vastly prefers lore-friendly aesthetic choices throughout most of the game--and believe me when I say, I understand where you're coming from in regards to practicality/realism in a fantastic setting--sometimes, it's nice to just let go for a little bit. I suspect, many others dress their characters up in silly outfits for similar reasons; maybe they find it mildly amusing, or just like the extra "look at me" factor. There's nothing wrong with either! I don't think anyone who does this seriously thinks they're inflicting some kind of side-splitting, ultra-edgy-humor. Like fashion wackadoos IRL there will always be people in MMOs who prefer to walk on the wild side. In fact, maybe these kinds of "fashion choices" aren't entirely unrealistic for the time period this game emulates; who's to say the odd viking didn't occasionally prance around in his wife's dress to get a few laughs? ;)

I actually agree with the sentiment, orcs in wedding robes ruin my immersion :p Yes I said it lol. I also have asked guildies/friends to take off their bathrobe costumes because 3 pink bathrobes a dungeon is too much for me to handle.
However, to each their own. I agree it can be funny sometimes, I guess I would just prefer s more...lore friendly? Realistic within given lore?..game but to each their own. I wish they'd sell a "no costumes/vanity pets" switch in crown store, would be one thing I'd buy in a heartbeat.

no he is not it ruins the immersion of the game. It also tells me the game is lacking something when people begin to resort to these types of antics instead of actually playing the game. I have seen it in game after game. Its never a good sign

The solution to hiding ugly armor sets is for ESO to create costumes that actually look cool. What is cool? Samuel Jackson in Pulp Fiction, Hells Angels, the Lexus LFA, and Hugo Boss. Do something similar within the fantasy realm, with an ironic twist if you have to.

Socrates is my favourite philosopher. He used irony with purpose, unlike the irony of the comedians in the 90s.

The funny part is that the faux rebels in this game, who read this thread, will now probably wear pathetic costumes because they think pathetic is the new rebellion. That is so LOL :)
    @ChaosWotan

You suggest that clothing inspired from action movies should be implemented into the universe of The Elder Scrolls? Players are permitted to use whatever cosmetic items they wish. If that bothers you, a single player game may interest you more.

If you really care how other players are dressed - find yourself an RP guild. Otherwise I don't see how it can affect your gameplay.

Did you just say, "Using civilian clothing in combat is not realistic within the realm of fantasy"

That sentence is utter nonsense. Also:

    f027d82e45d5ed98dcfb55990b85eabe.jpg

While wizards seemingly have a monopoly on pointy hats, they are not military professional attire, they are in fact civilian clothing.

Did you know that in "real" medieval world, armies and states did not have professional uniforms? The vast majority of combatants on the battlefield had to wear their own, ehem, civilian clothing (usually the paritcuar color of their lord). But that always didn't work out:

Orthodox vs. unorthodox seems to always be at hand. But alas, it is a game, where we can already be unorthodox by having any race in any alliance we see fit. So it is what it is.

If it were that serious though with 'realism,' pretty sure the Khajiit and Argonians wouldn't be walking on two legs, nor have opposable thumbs.

I completely understand the OP's perspective.

However. As has been mentioned, this is not a single player game. This is an MMO. The humor of ESO isnt even as irksome as the "humor" in JRPGs which amounts to school girl uniforms for the female characters and nothing for the guys.
I prefer to look somewhat in line with the aesthetic of the game, however I bear no ill will towards those who want to express themselves and/or have fun with their character.

It is their character. They are allowed to express their idea of that character however they choose. It should never be up to somebody else to decide what people can and cannot do with regards to expressing themselves.
Instead of asking for limitations from the developer side to restrict player expression, ask for more options in more styles. Ask for kilts and armored togas, so those who want to wear a dress into battle can at least wear an armored dress.

Limitations, restrictions, and judgments are never a beneficial or productive solution. If people expressing themselves via means given them by the game developers offends you, then I am sorry but ESO may not be the game for you, as I don't see them ceasing their acknowledgement of the built in humor of the Elder Scrolls series any time soon.

Just as people have a right to wear a jester's outfit and a golden crown whenever they please, so to do you have the right to not expose yourself to them.

ESO is starting to look like a bad taste party. Male orcs in white wedding dresses, men in pink shorts, and now many players running around with a silly crown that looks like a cheap toy found within a box of cereals. And let's not forget the chef, jester and dinner party costumes. It is not realistic that clothes like that are used in combat. It's like BF1 should let soldiers dress in a bikini during combat.

Now it's obvious that ESO is catering to those who think that a game should be "ironic", a bit "hilarious" and "LOL", but if ESO wants to go down that path, please create gear that is actually funny, with the same quality as Monty Python, instead of turning combat into a clown act.

Oh hey, an RP'er wanting to enforce their will upon everyone else, or somebody that just has too much time on their hands to over think things
