Civilian clothing should not be allowed in combat

ESO is starting to look like a bad taste party. Male orcs in white wedding dresses, men in pink shorts, and now many players running around with a silly crown that looks like a cheap toy found within a box of cereals. And let's not forget the chef, jester and dinner party costumes. It is not realistic that clothes like that are used in combat. It's like BF1 should let soldiers dress in a bikini during combat.

Now it's obvious that ESO is catering to those who think that a game should be "ironic", a bit "hilarious" and "LOL", but if ESO wants to go down that path, please create gear that is actually funny, with the same quality as Monty Python, instead of turning combat into a clown act.

I don't care what they wear, they're going to die anyway. Now come at me in that wedding dress bro.

Actually, I find this type of gear helps me decide who I don't want to group with, keep it up ZOS.

It's not "realistic" to shoot lightning out of your hands, ride giant cats, have horses that appear out of nowhere, port via wayshrines, etc., either. You can't really tell people what they can and can't wear in a game which is fantasy and not realistic by nature.

My advice would be to pretend that those players are using alteration and shielding spells, that would be a legitimate possibility.

i feel ya. When our emp is wearing the slooty crop top costume with the crown, it's pretty silly.

    Reminds me of Saints Row.

A game should be realistic within it's realm and context. Using civilian clothing in combat is not realistic within the realm of fantasy. But I guess people who support these bad taste costumes would also have laughed their ass off if the main characters in the Lord of the Rings movies had run around in pink shorts and wedding dresses.

It's a saying that even the gods are helpless when encountering stupidity, and the same applies to bad taste.

Razum-Dar turned into the Queen at some point. When you see Fat Orcs in Wedding Attire (FOWA) they are simply using illusion to distract foes and tear them to pieces.

Similarly Altmer in Crowns (AiC) are trying to cause their enemies to think they are fighting the Queen, make them careless and then roast them with fireballs

I dont know if you have ever played an elder scrolls game, but they have always had "ironic" and "hilarious" aspects about them.

I almost think this is a troll post but if it is i guess you got me.

If this one wants to wear a crown in PVP then this one shall wear a crown.

If this one wants to be a fancy Khajiit and wear a wedding suit/dress then this one shall do so. Humble Khajiit cases not for your immersion

Irony is boring now, though it was new and fun in the 90s. But if one should include humour, then it should be good, like Monty Python, not lame.

If ESO continues this trend, the game will look more and more clownish. Just saying.

It's the festival, it's always the case. The crowns will be a distant memory in a couple of months time, just like every other hat/costume/motif from the previous festivals.

I'm sure if we actually took a survey in-game of player characters passing us by at a busy hub we'd find the vast majority have their characters dressed in appropriate outfits, dyed appropriately.

First of all, it's a game. Which leads to my second point, which is that claiming it's not realistic is ridiculous and pointless.

Also, I find it funny that you mentioned Monty python as a quality example for "gear". Let's not forget that those are the people who held up a piece of cardboard over a hill and called it a castle.

The point is that if ESO continues to create LOL-gear every quarter, then more and more (juvenile) gamers will use this gear, perhaps because they think it's "provocative" and not boring, until it becomes a regular part of all combat.

Monty Python was actually creative and funny back in the days, 30-40 years ago. Copying them today is just zzzz. Create something new.

But if ESO wants the game to be a joke, then so be it.

It's the nature of the beast, OP. I also don't like seeing people with names like "MologsBalls" or "DeathMaster" or other silly/suggestive combinations, and would prefer it if everyone had at least somewhat lore-friendly names, but you can't enforce your preferences in an MMO. What you find annoying, someone else thinks it's really cool, and saying "well I pay so I don't have to put up with it" doesn't justify it because so do those people.

Also, a lot of players use costumes to conceal ugly mismatched gear they got from drops, or to hide their sets in PvP. And let's face it, the store doesn't have an overabundance of "appropriate" battlefield costumes.

Irony is a bit older than the 90s..and you beloved Monty Python. It was a tool used by Socrates often to exposed the antagonist ignorance in his stories. So perhaps all these people dressing ironically actually does fit the period...

The solution to hiding ugly armor sets is for ESO to create costumes that actually look cool. What is cool? Samuel Jackson in Pulp Fiction, Hells Angels, the Lexus LFA, and Hugo Boss. Do something similar within the fantasy realm, with an ironic twist if you have to.

Socrates is my favourite philosopher. He used irony with purpose, unlike the irony of the comedians in the 90s.

The funny part is that the faux rebels in this game, who read this thread, will now probably wear pathetic costumes because they think pathetic is the new rebellion. That is so LOL :)

Hell's Angels run drugs and are known to be a violent group. Hugo Boss designed the uniforms for the *** Party. Not entirely sure how these things qualify as cool, but to each their own I suppose.
