As someone who is a mod author that creates custom player housing for fallout .. you'd be surprised how many people actually care about stuff even if you cannot interact with it. Having things look a certain way builds the environment and sets the mood, brings life to a place.. makes it feel lived in. Sure not everyone understands that but trust me there are a lot of people enjoying placing objects they can't use. In my housing mods nearly every single item I place is static (can't be moved, used, picked up) because I don't want people messing up the hundreds sometimes thousands of objects I spent hours placing perfectly.. and people love it. Housing let's you create the environment you want to be in and that's an awesome step for ESO. I'm excited to see where they go with this in the future.

No storage, not much creativity, very bland.
Just gunna save my time and gold.
Well i read some good arguments for not buying around on forums:
It's stupidly expensive. You could buy 2 or 3 NEW COMPLETE GAMES for the cost of this place, especially if you do it furnished.
ZOS was lazy and put not one once of effort INTO THE HOUSE ITSELF. It is a tired copy/pasta of at least 3 other castles already in the game.
you cannot access the upper balcony or the top of the curtain wall, depriving you of all the splendid views and useable space this place SHOULD have.
The 24 player cap is ridiculous. ZOS should have very well known this cap is not in line with housing in virtually any other major game and SHOULD have known that players would be unhappy with this and should NOT have released housing until they figured out a solution to the "performance issues" that supposedly result at higher numbers of players.
You cannot access at least TWO floors that the outside of the castle shows. In fact, the interior of the castle bears NO resemblance to the floorplan that should exist based upon the exterior view of the castle.
There has not been a significant crown sale since this monstrosity came out. Half price is the only way this even BEGINS to make any sense.
The only thought or care that was put into housing was put into developing a grind for the furniture that goes along with it. And doing it in such a way as to drive frustrated players into the cash shop.
Housing still has a host of bugs associated with it. DEMAND that these be fixed first.
Outside grounds are the worst and most limited of all the houses with outdoor space. The trapdoor downstairs doesn't even take you to a sliver of beach but instead dumps your character into slaughterfish infested waters.
By buying all you will accomplish is to teach this company that they can put out a substandard product and charge you an outrageous price for it and you'll cave and let them get away with it. Wait for them to improve the value of this product or put out better houses in the future.
Can't do guild auctions because you can't access the guild bank for items or money.
The larger the home the more impossible it is to fill in a satisfying way under the item cap.
The larger the home the more it will seem lifeless and dead.
Better homes will probably come with Morrowind, and maybe even before.
The lack of function basically makes it just a status symbol and virtual status symbols are silly concept.
You probably don't have the free inventory space to manage the decorating process of a house this large without frustration.
It will likely take you longer to get from your front entrance to where you placed the crafting tables than it will take me to get from my city wayshrine to those tables.
You have to travel twice from Cyrodiil wayshrine to bank at your house (wayshrine doesn't work for homes) and I only need to do it once to get to my city.
Honestly at this point i've decided to wait for an update on the housing, instead i have several games on pre-order.
2 games or a useless house... Hmmm...

For me, I enjoy player housing for the same reason I enjoy Minecraft... it lets me build neat things and express my creativity in my own personal environment. I have to work to find resources, which makes what you craft out of those resources all the more satisfying. It's all about long-term projects and that feeling of accomplishment that comes from standing in your finished castle and thinking "I made all of this."
And then, unlike Minecraft, ESO has a setting I find immersive and fascinating, and I'm playing characters who have personalities and backstories. So, even though the creative tools are weaker than a full sandbox like Minecraft, I'm more invested in it. I'm invested in letting each of my characters decorate their own homes, and their individual pasts, stories, and personalities drive what I'm looking for for each house. Because of that investment, I know this is something that will entertain me for a long time.
So yeah, personally, I find Housing very fun. Not because of what it does for the rest of the game, but because of what it is. That "Barbie's Dreamhouse" feel is why I like it, especially in a game I already enjoy.
If that's not your cup of tea, then there's no need to worry about it. You play the game in the way you most enjoy, and I'll play it in the way I enjoy. The important thing is that we're both having fun.

I deeply understand and firmly believe that people can do what they will with their own money, but that doesn't mean that I have to agree with what they spend it on (so I usually just keep quiet about it), but I cannot fathom why people are spending upwards of $150 USD on these cheap, vanity houses, that are actually LESS USEFUL than a mount.
While I agree that people should be allowed to, I cannot fathom "why" they would...
