I think that a lot of thought has gone into the housing and housing editor, but that it still has a way to go. Still I would agree that housing is cosmetic and just a gold/Crown sink. But I believe that to be the point from a business perspective.

I think that ZOS might sell a lot more housing if they allowed Storage containers on the premises, Perhaps craft-able and available in the Crown store (much like backpack and bank upgrades).

But my personal wish would be for my pets and mounts to wander the property rather than stay planted where I set them. That would be fun.

Housing is and always has been an RP factor in ES games to me, I'm currently saving for the Windhelm home and I cannot wait to furnish it, once I get the crafting stations for my home aside from bank Tamriel won't see me in the crafting stations outside of set stations anymore. It is what you make of it, the crown prices are quite hilarious for the manors but no one is forcing you to buy them via that route. But talking to any human being on this earth is quite meaningless as it's nothing but upset and offended individuals because someone doesn't agree with them. You know the saying "Opinions are like a$$holes, everyone's got one."

Consider houses as a furniture bag... you have to have some place where to put stuff you may craft and can't sell :p

Or else, inventory slots availability suffer too much :)

But yeah, other than to use the Dummy, houses are mostly useless for now (IMO)

I didn't really look into all the specific characteristics of the homestead feature in ESO. I played Skyrim and I had thought it'd be like that, I mean, why have chests and dressers if you can't put stuff in it? It never occurred to me that these houses are basically just to look at.

I just felt that it would be opposed to common sense to ask people to pay this kind of money (if crowns are used) and provide zero practical use.

I'm a little disappointed in myself for not doing more research. I got the Cliffside for $36 which was a complete waste of money.

Can't be angry at ZOS. It's my fault for assuming that there's no way the developers would ask for this much money (near the cost for Morrowind) without providing some practical use in exchange for that money. It's a costly $36 f-u lesson to me. SMH. Oh well.

If I have good time decorating my home and I smile when I see the effects of my work, then it's not useless. I don't play this game to make money for me or improve my life, I'm playing for fun and playing for fun like decorating house is not useless..

I have snugpod as my crafting home with the main stations and a purchased banker.

Easy to craft there and walk to hand in my master writs or port to craglorn to hand in dailies. My friends use my home too for crafting.

Another friend of mine set up an amazing dueling arena with target dummies and whatnot and we spend a lot of time there testing builds and having fun.
I don't normally use daggers, but when I do, I choose dos Lekis.

Lets see, I set up a crafting area with all the stations just steps from each other. My home is right next to a wayshrine so travel to and from is easy. I have parked all my alts there so I can move things from them to the bank as needed with just a log.

    House is useful.

Could there be more storage? Sure. But it does not need to be tied to the house. In fact, if storage was such that I had to remember what house it was in to go and get it, then that would not be useful.

However I do have one house that is a Furniture Warehouse so I use that for storage.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Battle stations! We've got a necromancer on the loose!

Houses are basically your way of opting into the furnishing mini-game. If you like setting up your own space and using items creatively, then you'll love it. I spend hours a week in the housing editor, and most of my in-game money goes toward furnishing. This has become a huge part of my gameplay, and I love it. So, for me, it's far from useless.

But your mileage may vary. If it's not your thing, get the free apartment for the teleports and then never worry about it again.

    My Girls:
"If you were trapped in your house for, say, a year, how would you pass the time?"

Nephikah the Houseless, dunmer assassin: "I suppose I could use the break. I have a lot of business holdings now that need management."
Swum-Many-Waters, elderly argonian healer: "I think that I would enjoy writing a memoir."
Silh'ki, khajiit warrior-chef: "Would this one be able to go outside, to the nearby river? It's hard to fish without water!"
Peregrine Huntress, bosmer hunter: "Who is forcing me to stay inside, and where can I find them?"
Lorenyawe, altmer mechanist: "And why would I want to go outside in the first place? Too much to be done in the workshop."
Lorelai Magpie, breton master thief: "I'd go nuts. Lucky for me, I have a little experience sneaking out!"
Rasheda the Burning Heart, redguard knight: "I would continue my training to keep my skills sharp."
Hex-Eye Azabi, khajiit daedric priestess: "I suppose it would be lucky, then, that I built a shrine to Mephala in my backyard."
Yngva Stormhammer, nord bandit (reformed...ish): "I hate being inside even when I'm not forced to be. GET. ME. OUT."
Madam Argentia, vampire dunmer aristocrat: "I suppose it would be more of the same. I have a rather... contentious relationship with the sun."
Mazie gra-Bolga, orc scout: "Uh... I'd have to house train my bear..."
Felicia the Wanderer, imperial witch-for-hire: "What Lorelai said."
Calico Jaka-dra, retired khajiit pirate: "This one would like a rest from her grand adventures. Her jewel shop runs out of stock!"
Shimmerbeam, blind altmer psijic: "Provided that I am confined to Artaeum, I do not think I will want for things to occupy my time."
Shauna Blackfire, redguard necromancer: "Sounds like paradise. I hate people."
Kirniel the Undying, cursed bosmer warrior: "I would feel useless, not being able to fight."
Echoes-from-Dragons, argonian who thinks she's a dragon: "All the better to count my hoard!"

Overall, I don't see a whole lot of value to them, especially for how much they cost.

However, I actually spend sometime there. Whether it's refining, deconstructing. Rotation improving. DPS test. Last night alone 4 of us spent a couple hours at my home just practicing rotation and talking builds.
