Like it or not, the original Elder Scrolls lore was written mostly by people who did not have significant ancestors who experienced slavery (don't give me that 'everybody has been enslaved' crap. Some people's ancestors have been enslaved within the past 200 years) or cultural knowledge of slavery other than that it was a tragedy that happened to other people. And so, it stands to reason that an effective comment or sufficient perspective on slavery was missing from prior games. Yes, even Morrowind. Doesn't matter if it's a good game. Still was written mostly if not totally by white people for whom the orientialist trappings of much of the art are just "exotic flavor" and the themes of slavery and cultural trauma are "interesting," "angsty," and "for intrigue." Rather than having even a shred of intellectual commentary on them whatsoever. Beyond, you know, that slavery and oppression are bad and hurt people I guess. And even then you could choose to play a character for whom that's not even a problem and the whole topic would fly fifty feet over their head.
Button up, buttercup. You just can't handle being called gross for wanting slaves. That's your entire deal and you'd rather whine than realize that you maybe don't have the greatest grasp on a topic that's faraway and abstract to you, rather than something that requires actual finesse to handle. Rather than your meaty pawing suggestions to do the least sensitive thing whatsoever: allow characters to become a slaver, but not a liberator of slaves. There's a reason why the game allows you to give to the poor as well as kill them, you great tweedbeetle.

The thread that got locked was your way of implementing actual slavery and prostitution into the game.
Lore has NOTHING to do with what you want. What you want is to be a predator.
What? I only mentioned slavery, never the latter. The latter has never been a part of the Elder Scrolls game. You do not perform that action as a part of the main questline in Morrowind. Slavery, on the other hand, is a part of the games.
Pretty sure it has been mentioned a few times. I can't remember a mention since Morrowind, however.
Well, it has been hinted at in Daggerfall, as @Tryxus pointed out. I completely forgot about that.
Pretty sure it was heavily hinted at in a few places on Vvardenfell. Including the use of slaves as prostitutes. It was explicitly mentioned in Daggerfall.
Let us not forget what goes on in the lowest level of the Ebony Flask.

That thread was not a discussion of lore.
That thread was you arguing that the player character should be allowed to have slaves. Many people found that disturbing.
A large percentage of Morrowind-based RP guilds have a slavery system in place. BAN EM ALL! Right? Wrong. I find it disturbing that some people wish to silence the lore. No wonder so many people exclude this game from their headcanons. The game has strayed from the lore in so many ways, and I find it disturbing that people wish to further remove it from the single player games.
You know, if you have two consenting RPers, who want to do a Master/Slave thing... that's their choice. It's weird, messed up, but they're participating together, so it's clearly a mutual decision. That wasn't what you were asking for, though.
So it's fine if two RPers consent but because an NPC can't... ? Heh

Probably. Furthermore, I never condoned slavery in any sense, it is wrong and evil, but my Dunmer doesn't think so
Well, then, your Dunmer can deal with that problem on their own. They've currently sworn fealty to a political and military alliance that has outlawed the practice.
Actually, my Dunmer is of House Telvanni, which never joined the Pact. Even if he wasn't, only Pact races are illegal to own as slaves.
Might want to double check that. When you're on the character select screen, or look at his character screen, which icon is on his sheet?
It's called ESO pre-order Explorer's Pack

Whatever two people are getting up to in tells... I don't want to know. Unless someone's feeling aggrieved, I really don't care. It's their choice, note the plurality there. I'm not going to get into a qualitative assessment, because I've seen how terrible some RPers are, but, no matter how you cut it, it's not actual slavery.
Sticking a collar on an NPC and dragging them around, while stuffing random crap down their pockets, because you want to live the life of a slaver... that's all kinds of messed up.

So are you saying that you would be ok with his suggestion if they also added content where you could liberate slaves? I don't think the OP claims to be calling slavery not "gross" just that he wants to be able to further immerse himself into the lore of the Dunmer. Also yes slavery was a tragedy IRL, but this was also, as you said, 200 years ago. You need to grow up and make something of yourself instead of hiding behind the atrocities committed on your ancestors. For example look at the Jewish people, do you see them using the tragedy of the holocaust (which happened much later than slavery) to claim "privilege" and infringe on free speech under the flag of being triggered? No, they have moved on with their lives and are working towards furthering their people. In short yes slavery was bad but you need to learn to put the past behind you and move on.

Ever heard of roleplaying? Kinda hard to be a Dunmer slaver without any slaves. Obviously it's not something we endorse in real life, but we want to play as Dunmer are portrayed in the franchise. Get off your high horse.

Correctimundtisimo. That's a thing now, while we are inventing words. My quote about creating a thread is just that: me discussing a thread.
MythicEmperor wrote: »So, I recently made a thread discussing slavery in the Elder Scrolls Online. It is now closed. Why?
"This conversation is not producing constructive conversation and as many find it disturbing and inappropriate we will be closing the thread."
Now, I can understand the reasoning behind the first part. The problem is that the thread had not devolved into anything near petty name calling, so I find this strange. The second part is what truly bothers me. Slavery, as wrong as it is, is an integral part of the Elder Scrolls lore. It is a focal point in Morrowind's main questline. It is the primary reason for tension and distrust in the Pact (creating conflict, and thus plot). It is also a huge part of Dunmer and Ayleid lore and culture. Cultures having evil and cruel elements such as slavery add depth and moral conflict, which makes the world feel more alive.
Before you get on your high horse: Slavery is wrong. So is murder, torture, cannibalism, ritualistic sacrifice, discrimination, racism, thievery, and lying, which are all parts of the Elder Scrolls lore (and yes, even ESO) as well. Slavery is already in ESO (and it is featured in several quests), yet it is not allowed to be discussed on the forums? These are just a few thoughts, feel free to share your own.

The companions in Skyrim fall into three categories.
Quest Related and Allies: Go do a thing, this guy is going with you. Serana's one example that occupies your follower slot. This also includes guild members that are willing to give you a hand. Again, not your slaves, but they're running around murdering things with you by choice.

Discussing slavery in ESO lore and asking for the PC ability to keep slaves are two different things, which you surely know by the way you couched this opening.
You refer to how the game currently has slavery as a part of it, however, to be clear and not misleading, the game currently has the impacts of slavery shown and referenced and aftermaths dealing with it, but so far in no way that i am aware of does it ever put the PC in the situation of owning a slave as a part of its quests or storyline.
So, no, what a thread about getting the pc ability to own slaves is not one about something already in the current game quests.
So, i have no problems with such a discussion being stopped and the game not including owning slaves as an option.
YMMV
