Considering the lack of changes to it cosmetically as other mounts and the fact it has absolutely no special animations. Im going to guess this mount is overpriced because we as a community overhyped it. We gave the marketing and sales people the idea that this would be really hot item and that we'd likely pay top dollar for it. Now Im sure plenty of people are proving them correct on this. This is our faults. We caved in and were willing to buy into the Dro ma'thra mount because it was so pretty and sparkley and we didnt want want to not look like unique snowflakes for our friends and complete strangers. And now here we are again with another mount that is priced way over its actual value, at least to anyone thats decided not to get it, and we're once again scratching our heads as to how ZOS could of came to the conclusion that they did. Truth is if we stopped buying these marked up LTSs they will stop appearing in the store. The more we give in, the more ZOS gets the idea its okay to continue on like this.

For all that people complain about the mount, I think the texture is good, the animation is good, the size is right, and it looks great in the game. The scream is bad due to the frequency, at least for me, but it is better than the cow-dog mount that squeals like it is in pain. The lack of appearance change with speed, storage, and stamina is something to be concerned about, but I am waiting to see if it is a bug. It would not be the first time this was messed up on a mount.

In all, it is not a bad mount. It is actually a pretty decent mount. I think that is why people are so upset with the high price. If it was a really bad mount, no one would care about the price.

On your other statement, I would really really like them to put some new mounts into the game. Gold. Quest. Achievement. I really don't care. I know this won't happen as long as current management is around, but these people jump from studio to studio like fleas in a kennel. Eventually, all new people will be in there. Maybe they will be better. Maybe worse. That is the best I can hope for, though.

I think I'm a little biased here because I normally disable all but the bag-space visual upgrade on my mounts. Also, I'm Canadian, and I just think elk are cool.

BTW that's totally what elk sound like:

    Sooooo....

    - The Elk is a new animal mount, but doesn't come with new Riding Animations or roars
    - It isn't affected by the Options to Disable the Mount Upgrade
    - It costs 4500 Crowns

Yeah, I'm gonna pass on this one. It would've been ok if the price was half of what it is now since it doesn't come with either new animations or the same functionality the other mounts have. But as it is now, no way in Oblivion I'm buying it.

ZOS needs to realize that there is a limit to how much a mount should cost, and if it is expensive then it should be a really visually impressive one. But they failed big time here

Santie she would have liked a walking hat rack yes.

But oh no not at a price so high it could touch the very moons in the sky.

2,500 shiny coins would have been the limit for this one. Price too high and lose the sale yes.

Khajiit she does not look for or expect the bargains but she also knows that a hat rack should not cost as much as the entire city of Hews Bane.

Totally this. The "roar" (when you press space button) is almost the same as the one of the horses... I won't be getting the elk either despite the fact that I was a huge fan of this one when they put it in the showcase.

And I don't see many people riding this one in game so ZOS probably shot itself in the foot with the pricing.

I don't think we should encourage ZOS to continue turning the Elder Scrolls into a cash grabbing gambling casino.

Surely it is possible to run an honest business and still turn a profit? WoW was ten times as successful as ESO could ever dream of being and they never resorted to such cheap tactics.

Perhaps we should examine what has led us, not just ZOS, to honestly believe the only profitable model is a sleaze model.

The Zombie Horse is literally the only mount that goes beyond Sculpting 101 and has a unique left and right side. Even the Crate mount bodies are mirrored.

And then they devalued the Zombie Horse last October by selling it at half price, so now I expect digital sculpt quality at lower price points. These amateur mirrored jobs just aren't going to cut it. And the Elk's back end looks shaved and over-muscled, like the earthy-smelling guy at the gym.

If it were flashy and had cool effects/sounds like the Dro Senche, I'd say it were up to you if you wanted to spend the crowns. But we really do deserve better work than this.

I was surprised at the price. I also find the geometry a bit too, we put an elk skin on our horse model. That, and it's animation is a little hinky and makes a terrible sound. The leaping is nice though. All in all I am underwhelmed especially at basically the price of a dro mathra sench which was pretty sick. The "snow wolf" also left me feeling this way. I was all ready to get one of those as I did not yet have a wolf and thought it would be neat only to find there was no frost aura or icy footprints. What about it was supposed to be snowy? More like bleached wolf. Not a bad looking mount just not living up to billing.

In the end I passed on both when originally I thought I might get each. I guess you vote with your wallet. Neither of these last two mounts lit my fire though I initially thought both would. That Kaguti though, still lovin that one. Would do a wolf atro for the sorc too but, you know, clown crates and all. I calculate it would probably take a years sub to buy one. I don't think I am going to fall down that hole. I'm pretty sure footed. Here is to hoping the next mount does it for me.
I am currently worried for the future of ESO. Population seems like it is in free fall and the cancellation of the North America in-person gathering feels very much like pulling the plug. Kudos on fixing the in-game economy though. Clearly whatever gold shenanigans were happening the last couple years are fixed.

When my socks get holes in them, I sew them shut. I'm not even that old, I just hate seeing money wasted when there are so many good things that it can be used for. Sad thing is I can't even envision that $30 dollars going into growing the game, just sustaining it.

Just letting you guys see an official response on this, in case you hadn't found it yet, on this thread: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/309904/elk-should-have-came-with-warning-labels
    Hi everyone,

Thank you for sharing your feedback and concerns with us regarding the Great Elk mount. We do take your feedback into consideration for future Crown Store content releases. Because of its geometry and the fact that it already has adornment by default, this particular mount does not have an upgraded look for maxed out riding skills as some of our other mounts do. Some of our mounts will have this upgraded look, and some will not. In the future, we will do better at letting everyone know ahead of time which do and which don’t.

Based on what data? What a handful of people on a forum containing only a small percentage of the population say? It could be 20, or it could be 1.3 and we do not possess the data to figure that out.

I get that the price is high, that's not a debate. 4,500 crowns for a mount is certainly excessive. But they wouldn't charge it if people weren't paying it.

Ok, so I am fascinated with economics in general but even more with odd ball economics like black markets, MMO gold markets, and micro transactions in games.

ESO started with a very predictable and simple model with 1500 basic unlimited versions of a mount and 2500 limited time only runs. They did one senche after another with no interruption until no-one ever wanted to see a cat mount again and the coolest looking one, the clouded, sold terribly.

After the senche fiasco they dialed it back a bit and did only a few bears, wolfs, and camels at dlc launches but still with that pricing scheme. I think the hist guar and kagoti were also in this time frame. The only outlier was the very expensive ice hoarse that seemed to perhaps out price the market as I didn't see many.

They then changed it up, holding off a relatively long time with no mounts before dropping in the gambling crates in which I noticed they dropped some specific mounts that they had fouled up the marketing on (Ice hoarse was overpriced and clouded senche was handed to a cat weary market) as well as the new very cool storm atro mounts and a very pretty red wolf that they had clearly held back. The crates are very high priced and have terrible RNG but ZOS did include a token system so you do eventually get to buy, at very high cost ~$250 if crowns bought at no discount, the atro mount of your dreams and if were all honest we do all want at least one.

Since the crates I have seen no pattern with a 2500 crown ice wolf which has no ice effects and now 4500 for this elk that screeches and looks a bit too much like a hoarse though has a very nice leap and pretty leather work on the saddle and bags.

I am really interested as to the internal numbers that ZOS is seeing and the pricing strategy in play. I would also be very interested to see the fluctuation in crowns outstanding and purchased at any given time. I would love to see the numbers behind what were clearly successes based on the number of guys riding around in Rawl (Dro matha senche) and failures (clouded senche.) They must have some strategy going forward especially with housing which I suspect will be very, very, expensive at the top end and probably exponentially graduated in price (perhaps 5000 small, 10000 medium, 20000 large, 40000 for the crown store only)

I should probably look up their FTC disclosure statements at year end as I am just very interested to know what has worked and what has not especially since I clearly can no longer predict at what price an item will be offered as I expected the ice wolf to be icy and more than 2500 and for the elk to definitely be 2500.

The one thing I am sure worked.... Crafting bag hook on the subscription.
I am currently worried for the future of ESO. Population seems like it is in free fall and the cancellation of the North America in-person gathering feels very much like pulling the plug. I don't. I see them as gimicky and lore breaking. Plus they are a constant reminder of a beautiful franchise being dragged through the muck by greed.

I would never want top be seen on one even if I had it. It would just make me want to mudball myself for being a selfish part of the problem ruining something I loved, and I would totally deserve it, too.

This is what happens when a "game company" considers it more important to use basic psyc tricks to fleece its players than to earn a living by putting out good content.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heuristics_in_judgment_and_decision-making

They probably dont care how many elk mounts they are going to sell. More than likely they are just using this to anchor you into thinking future mounts are a good deal, even if they come from random rippoff crates.

This is what happens when corporate indoctrination camps train generations of robots to completely lose touch with their own humanity and that of their customers.

They are so busy chasing the latest fad of the moment formula for success they become completely oblivious they are the cause of their own failure.

Especially since all these ludicrous corporate formulas add up to pure short-sighted GREED.

    It ain't rocket science.

A mount in crown store that costs 4500 crowns is not issue it's an easy choice either you have the money and wantvthe mount or you don't have the money or don't want to spend the money.

A mount locked away in A RNG box that cost somewhere between 400 and 40,000 crowns that's a *** travesty.

The elk mount cost 4500 Clowns.

With 1000 more you could buy ALL DLCs.

The amount of work and time invested into 3D software to create a Elk can't be compared to creating a whole in-game level map, creatures and programming new quest for each DLC.

Any 3D Designer could create this Elk in a Weekend if he feels bored and there is nothing better to do.

Now think again. 4500 Clowns for a Elk vs 5500 Clowns For 4 DLCs (all in-game DLCs at the moment).

Don't let the Clowns make you look like a Clown.
