I certainly agree the Elk is over-priced. Thankfully, it didn't hold much appeal to me and I got my Ice Wolf for much less ( that was also over-priced IMO since all they did was change fur color, but more reasonable than Elk ). The greed is why I hate zos though I love this game.

On the other major point, lack of desirable cosmetic rewards in game as opposed to crown store, I only partly agree. There are quite a few costume rewards. Maybe I'm just easy to please, but there are several that I like to use when I want a costume. Im fact, the new Nordic bath towel is on over half my alts now. I have never felt the need to buy any kind of crown store costume. Of course, I wouldn't mind seeing a few more in game rewards, especially ones that aren't tie to ridiculous RNG like the Molag Bal polymorph.

Yeah I am upset about this because I wanted it. But at 4.5k crowns, it's more than the dromathra senche and half as cool so kinda a waste. The textures and effects r not worth that many crowns like the senche was. I am a collector of sorts and I buy almost everything ZOS puts out but this is too steeply priced for me. Shame on you ZOS.

Agreed. There are things that I would love to buy, but it's simply not worth the money.

I, and many others, will make an exception, though, if they were to offer dragon pets / mounts.
I don't care for the lore. There are more things in this game that make no sense either, so why not make that exception too?
    If lore's really that important:
"Necromancers attempted to revive dragons once more, and finally succeeded." Make a quest around it that people can purchase with crowns and the reward is a young dragon mount. One that's still too young to fly, but big enough to ride.

Just do it ZOS, and watch the river glow in gold.

There are no young dragons. They simply exist.

Dragons are basically gods. Unless you are a Dragonborn who knows how to shout in dragon language - there's no way you'd get to ride one.

    The Vestige isn't dragonborn.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
See? Lore. Okay, so how about this:
Grab a horse. Add scales, add non-feathered wings attached near the shoulders and don't work as front legs, add additional horns on the back of its head, argonian-like tail, keep the manes, swap hooves with claws, predator teeth, and call it a Pjar'Drath™, which is NOT a dragon, but due to its features, people tend to call a Half-dragon.
Boom! A non-dragon pet that will still please dragonlovers.

Edit: I put a trademark on that name, just in case B)

Yeah and as I said in the other thread:
Doesn't come with any special summon animation or sound.
Doesn't even come with visual upgrades, so no armour, speed straps, or bags (other than the bags already on it).

It looks cool for sure, nice to see it, the animation of it running is pretty good, looks like an elk to me, they used the sound I thought they would as well. But when the price is more than the Dro Mathra, I thought it might have something more to it. :/

Complaints in the forums on this subject do little. Zos has no reason to pay this thread any attention.

It's the actual sales that Zos will see and listen to as that is the message that tells them is something is priced well or not.

I totally agree with you OP. But I purchased ot anyway and want to say more - elk is total garbage!
    1. His legs go in different sides when you ride (like camel sprint).
    2. He looks the same on 60/60/60 character and 0/0/0 charachter - same armor, same bags.
    3. No special animation when elk appear.
    4. And the most important - he screams on the border of ultrasound like dolphin! WTF? Is it so hard to spend 1 minute and watch screaming elk on youtube.

And this is all about the most expensive mount in the game!

Looks pretty cool though. Didn't technically cost anything as most xb people were gifted 10k crowns so why not. Wouldn't pay for it though outright. Stupid.

... Those were just for people who had not been receiving their monthly subscription Crowns, actually. Wasn't a gift. Although some of the accounts seem to have gotten mixed up.

I would not say "most people". In all my guilds and among all my friends, I only know one person who got any.

I was never out of crowns. I had to chase them up month in month out, always given an extra 500 for the hassle too. Not sure why I got sent so many but I never ever let them go and always made sure I got them.

They want more for this plain, boring moose mount than the Dro'Mathra space panther?

ZOS, you've already created a prohibitive wealth gap that excludes the majority of loyal customers.

Why not just call it "Gambling Addicted Exclusive Attention Craving Whale Milking Online?"

Just throw this and a bunch of pay to win crap on the casino already and be done with us.

Most likely cause Gaeacwmo, Is a terrible acronym, but you know otherwise I'm sure it cross there minds.

I'm honestly surprised here too, I was expecting 3000 crowns, which you know is the upper end of non-magical / intentionally scarce mounts... I'm torn cause on one hand ZOS does actually add for free to the base game a lot more then other games i've played... on the other hand, that is a seriously devastating amount for a mount.

I understand that DLC and "micro"transaction items are priced higher half because compared to the base game the number of buyers is low. But they seriously might wanna consider lowering the price on some of this stuff. If 100 people buy it at $30 or a 1000 people buy it at $10, you make more money on the second one. (Although I suppose there price research market is not underfunded and prices things exactly to optimize that number, which could only mean not alot of people will buy something at all, but a ton of people will buy it no matter the price! scary if true)

I constantly purchase items from the crown store Sometimes twice for me and my sister and it's not because I have insecurities. I have the money and how my charcter looks is extremely important to me. It's more about immersion not flaunting. It's sad that some people actually think I purchase these items to purposely show off and make them feel bad. I would be nice if zos lower the prices so more can enjoy these cool item but either way I will continue to buy them.

the glowing senche made huge sales with its expensive price of 4000 crowns, so there is absolutely no reason why they'd sell a new mount for less..

It's almost Christmas. Buy it with your refund money. ;)

In all seriousness, don't buy it if you don't have the money or don't agree with the price. You're wasting your own time complaining about it. First, the blue cat mount, then the crown crates, now the elk. It's all cosmetic items. It doesn't do anything other than make your character look "cool". If you really want it, buy it, but don't complain about cosmetic item prices. It's just silly.

I'm just glad this game isn't going P2W. That's what makes it a great game.

I personally disagree with both ideas you shared.
Specifically: the idea that a higher price means less will be in the game. That's proven not to be accurate.

The idea that at least it's not in crown crates. Crown crates are a terrible way to offer paid content regardless of type

I have absolutely no issue with ZOS charging for stuff. I have a specific issue with the chosen price points in context to the actual game, dlc and what isn't available. I'd even thrown in ESO plus cost because the actual concept behind ESO plus crowns are to give players who choose to sub the opportunity to save crowns and buy either cosmetic things or consumables.

Here's the reality of it all.
1500 crowns is below ALL of that. So while you can argue that a player should save up crowns....that's a very bad argument.

Let's look at the pay for items and their values of which a ESO plus subscriber or a person who just buys crowns every 3-6 months will see.

    5k crowns for motifs
    4-5k crowns for mounts
    1500-5k crown crates
    1200-5000 crowns for costumes

Basically it's set for a 90 day accumulation which requires one to also purchase a bulk of crowns during a sale

This stuff is 100% non-accessible otherwise less motif.

The game was a cost of $15/month
Now it's on average $30/month for a player who occasionally may buy a few things here and there

Someone who may decide to just play and sub is cut off from 75% of limited items due to a lack of accumulation.

Prob time to Move on but just pointing out the greed model. This has nothing to do with funding devs. because by logic if it was, then we would have content rolling out.

We've had recycled content and a few dungeons, a small DB and TG dlc in almost one year and in Feb well see housing which isn't dlc. It's actually another crown initiative

Nothing in the crown store should ever exceed the monthly sub cost. That's just the basic math of it all. And ppl saying they could've survive that way....silly.

Now the other side of it is this.....maybe some thing should come as a loyalty of subbing vs a cost of 5k in crowns. Imagine that as a model.

    SMH this is dumb.

I do think that it is proven that the higher price does make them more scarce in the game. Yes, we will see a lot of them right away, but the number of people who have them, long term, will be smaller than if it were 2500 Crowns. That means that, over the course of a year, we will see them much less.

As for the price, there are a lot of things to consider. While you might be able to set them up and knock them down like bowling pins, it is the whole package, together, that has to be considered, not the importance of any one of them.

First, this is a new mount. Yes, the elk are already in the game, but this is not that elk. There will be recolors, and they might be less expensive than this elk.

Second, I am not really picky about textures, mainly because I recognize that they have to make them work in the context of the whole game. I don't expect everything to be a super HD texture. That said, I think this texture is very nice, so I think it fits better into the "premium" category.

Third, I was serious about "rarity" and not seeing them in the game. ZOS wants this, too, because it does get more people to buy them if they think that every third person won't be riding one. Yeah, the two factors work against each other, but they do not cancel each other out.

Fourth, it is the holiday season and people spend more money this time of year than any other time of year.

Fifth, this is limited time only, and holiday specific. While I mentioned Crown Crates, my guess is that this exact mount will not be seen again before December 2017.

Sixth, one reason for Crown Crates is to get people to spend more real world money on in-game stuff. It is rather against that reason if people can just buy similar stuff outside of Crown Crates for less. They want Crown Crates to be the vehicle for getting old stuff that has been removed from the Store, in addition to new stuff. The Elk price has to be in line with what they expect the average player to spend on a mount of this caliber in Crown Crates.

Seventh, they know how many Crowns are out there to spend, and it is in their interests to bring that down. Not only that, but they can run queries that tell them how many Crowns people likely to purchase this Elk have in reserve. They set the price of the Elk to "help" the players use up those Crowns.

Eighth, in line with the item above, two almost back-to-back sales on Crowns happened in the last half of the year. There is probably a glut of Crowns out there. I know I have a boatload of them. This likely results in a bit of inflation for high end items.

Ninth, this was an anticipated item with people talking about how much they wanted it. I feel that the more hype the forum has over an upcoming item, the more expensive that item could be when it comes out. This is especially important when combined with the third item.

I also want to add that the Elk mount is absolutely not needed to play the game. It is entirely optional. Even if you go to the Crown Store to buy that first mount (which I bet a lot of people do), you only need one mount. I always keep this in mind when I am in the Crown Store. I don't need any of that stuff. If I have a use for it, it might buy it. If I have no use for it, I let it go, even if I may never see it again. Even if I may never see it again, and in 6 months I actually have a use for it. This is the number one reason I have no use for Crown Crates. There is nothing in the Crown Crates that I need. Not until they to go full Pay to Win and offer advantage in the Crown Crates.

So, for me, the price of the Great Elk mount only an issue if I want the Great Elk, and then it is a matter of deciding whether I want it that much, or not. If I do want it that much, then it is worth whatever I am paying for it. Otherwise, it isn't, and I don't buy it.
