With the introduction of those Crown Store styles and their style material available only upon deconstruction, a new market has established in ESO! Lots of people are converting their real money cash into ingame gold currency by selling the materials at abormal prices!

Dear ZoS,
please make Stalhrim and Grinstones farmable to avoid such market transactions. Almost every MMO that has this, collapsed sooner or later because of the price dilution. Possible ways would being farmable from Frost Atronachs (Stalhrim) or from Mages Guild dailies (Grin stones)

More to the point, this is what happens when they don't even give out enough mats to make an entire set. I get the fact people run around with just 5 pieces, but there are lots of people who will either run around with different crafted set pieces or who'll just craft everything in the same set because that's just how they roll. Should have came with at least enough mats to make all the clothing pieces and 4 weapons (better to assume people use 4 weapon slots rather than just 2-H weapons).

What they could possibly due instead of making the item farmable. Is just make the item non-tradeable. Of which if they were going to do anyting with the item, they would most likely make it non-tradable in order to not mess with the money they could generate through the crown store.

I'd like to see these mats available in-game. Honestly though I haven't seen hardly anyone even requesting people to craft Grim Harlequin

Maybe 5 or so in zone since it came out. If there's an underground gold/style mat racquet, no one told me or my crafting guild

I find it gross, as one might at the trade of out-of-game currency for in-game. Yet, this item only has value if one has paid for the motif from the crown store.

Nip it in the bud, make the material obtainable in-game. Perhaps from chests on bleakrock as malachite is found in other places.

This started with the Harlequin set during Witches Festival. Also, Crown Crates may play a role is this to a small extent, as they can reward mimic stones.

I can see a slight connotation here between crown crates and the issue at hand, but it relies on an assumption: that Zos expects us to have the mimic stones on hand from getting them from the crown crates bad luck draws.

In the past, before mimic stones, they would make some of the items of some rare motifs that could be obtained both in game and in the store bound exactly to avoid this.

But then again, the philosophy of the company changed.

I got all the grinstones I'll ever need for the few pieces I'll use, reasonably through a guild seller when the Grim motif first released. That's precisely why the mimic stone quantity was reduced this time around. It forces a dependency on ZOS for the resource, not on astute in-game market buying. They can talk circles all they want. Working long enough in the industry gave me an immunity to coached bull *** answers.

There are far better ways to make money than off of *** ugly motifs, though. If you like the *** ugly motif for yourself, fine. But don't speculate without solid numbers to back it up or you're going to get burned.

This has been here for a while, way to keep up. This has been going on since they introduced mimic stones.

Also, ZOS doesn't care.

But when they introduced Mimic Stones, all of the style materials could also be obtained in game.

And as I said previously, they USED TO care.

For example, the Glass Style. Malachite Shards were not bound, but once you made them into Malachite, Malachite would be bound because you could get Malachite through the Crown Store.

There really should be some source of Stahlrim and Grindstones in game. I mean, I understand that those two motifs represent a kind of self perpetuating audience for ZOS, where if you bought it, you're going to need to keep buying style stones... but it does create a situation where those stones can be sold, and cash can be directly converted into gold. It's something ESO's gone to great lengths to prevent.

I can understand Stahlrim being astonishingly rare. That's canon, but there still needs to be a way to obtain this stuff in game, in order to cut out the viability of turning stones into Stahlrim and selling them. Or any future crown store exclusive motifs.

I'm not going to say it'll kill the game, it won't. This is too obtuse, and risky a scenario, for massive conversion into cash. But, it's a problem. One that runs directly up against the design intentions with the crown store. So, something really needs to be done.

I don't know about your finances, but for me, 10k a stone is cheap. Cheaper than buying more mimic stones off the crown store, anyway. I balked at 20k grindstones, but... 10k Stahlrim? A motif I'm seriously fond of, and have been since Bloodmoon? Yeah, that's reasonable enough.

Yes, but they used to be before Mimic Stones were introduced because they were sold in the store. That's what I am saying. They were bound because ZOS didn't want people to buy them for Crowns and sell them for gold. When Mimic Stones were introduced, they stopped being bound. That's why they are not bound today.

There is no winning in an MMO. Hell, even getting Emperor in Cyrodiil doesn't mean you won the game. Getting gold for cosmetic items certainly doesn't meet the qualifications of something being pay to win. If Stahlrim armor gave you an extra 20% Frost Damage increase or some other battle stat, THAT would be a pay to win argument. This, not so much.

you know this kind of stuff is why ZOS does not take you seriously.

buy a store only motif (cosmetic) craft a bunch of items with mimic stones (store bought) deconstruct them (50/50 chance of actually getting a style mat back) and then try to sell that material for some money (less then gold tempers) that is only of any use to someone that bought the motif in the first place (store bought cosmetic)

and this is pay to win. . .

. . .according to UD, this is pay to win:

Games that let you buy better gear or allow you to make better items then everyone else at a faster rate and then makes the game largely unbalanced even for people who have skill in the game without paying.

the former does not seem to qualify for the latter.

It's almost as if multiple people can have separate, independent perceptions.

It's not a serious problem by any stretch. But it does allow players to convert crowns to gold, which is something ZOS has, in the past, gone to great lengths to avoid. It's not anything really outrageous, but it's something that probably should get addressed, because it is something that the devs don't want happening.

Yep. This has been happening for a while. I've been buying up the grinstones on guild traders since I have more in-game gold than I do real money. xD I was getting them 7k per piece on PS4 NA. I never bothered to question the motive of the seller.

This is the absolute responsibility of ZOS, and it was a direct consequence of their greedy decision to exclude these style materials in game.

What has added salt to the wound though was the recent release of the Frostcaster motif with only 5 mimic stones. This has inflated the price of the in game style materials. No chance I'll find a good deal anymore, assuming that you consider 10k per style material a good deal like I do.

Yeah, ages ago. I got shouted down then. Honestly, selling something like a Hunding's Rage piece in Stahlrim is a pretty tough sell anyway. Crafted items, in my experience, don't usually move. (It might be different in this specific case, but I'm not too inclined to invest the resources to find out.)
