Why is there so much lag/crashes in the New Life Festival?

They might be using this to get stress metrics on the game, servers, connectivity, etc...
Hopefully something good will come of this, but maybe not.

I must admit that these 'one big world servers' that MMOs like to have these days, just don't actually seem to be that great. It seems a nice idea, but for some reason they can't handle so many characters being in the one area. Smarter event quest design I think might be needed to come up with solutions to these problems that occur keep occuring.

Come guys it has only been a couple years. You cant expect them to learn from their mistakes that quickly. Or mistakes other game companies made years ago.

Celebrate the New Life Festival

I'd like to but some sadist at zos decided it would be a really great idea to dump EVERYONE in 1 single location without a second thought to the massive and utterly predictable server hit.

Crashed 2 steps from wayshrine next to zerg-of-NewLife; can;t re-log because you[zos] have 1 tiny server with a 6502 processor and 1 kB of ram deployed for handling every player in the eu server zone.

I'm betting the quests get handed out in the same order, too, so the zerg-of-NewLife lags and crashes its way from one zone to the next and back again.

So...

We are not put in different shards anymore, I guess. Everyone in the same place and the same shard is an awful idea.

Just completed all the quests without a hitch. Tonnes of people around at all the different activities but haven't crashed, have a ping at about 100-150, and even framerate has been pretty good at 30+ at least.

I wonder why there is such a difference between one person and another?

At best, if you can log-in and don't crash next to Breda most zone/guild chat reflects 999+ latency. And of course, if you do crash next to Breda, logging in again is not guaranteed.

I rarely crash. I crashed twice. Then I finally talked to Breda..... got a quest to get mystery meat and honey. Y'know, I kinda felt sorry for those wolves, 50 stalwart warriors attacking each easy little furry thing..... and I hate to tell you ZOS, but wasps do not make honey. Neither do they carry it under their little legs.
*** hum.... but actually I got juggling knives in my prize. I REALLY think they are fun

Good for you, some of here are not even able to go beyond character selection screen. When I try to enter, it takes along time on the loading screen, then goes back to login screen with a message saying that it cant connect as if there is a connection problem.

This is really very disappointing, that guy from ESO who thought that it was a great idea to dump everyone in one location is a real troll.

I still giggle when i kill some small little critter and pull out a staff or some chest plate.

One thing I have discovered is that the loading time is greatly reduced if you travel to a wayshrine further away from the event.

Hmm, ok I can't even log back in when I crashed at Breda's place. The worse is people staying there spamming spells or doing nothing, it's unplayable for me.

Same idea that WoW had back in the day.....this why they have tons of seperate servers and factions

The event was years ago and caused their servers to crash just to open an area that needed full server participation

It's simple, because the servers can't handle the numbers. It's why they also downgraded PvP.

Haven't crashed in quite awhile but just did trying to port to Alikr. I don't understand how Zos can acknowledge the lag issues and talk about spreading players out and then design an event this way.

I really hope this is a wake-up call to ZOS. To either upgrade the servers, introduce zone shards, introduce some sort of server throttling, or simply reflect on the terrible planning behind the event.

Is there anyway I can put my character in some other area rather than the over crowded Eastmarch on character screen? (I know I cant, but wish I could)
I just simply cant login, because I was kicked off the server from Eastmarch. I'm PC/EU.

I honestly don't know. We had a similar problem during the Anniversary Event, but that was before 1T, the npc was in three different places (each alliance's starting town) and you could always go to your gold or silver area if you wanted to avoid the crowd. After that, I expected them to do something about the crashes, especially after 1T was announced.

So I don't know. If they didn't something back then... Would they do something now? They can always just wait for the issue to go away once people stop doing the quests, leave for the holidays or the event ends.

What I don't understand is how someone could have thought it was a good idea to have only one NPC in the entire game for a Special Event like this.

Every other event, spread the NPCs out at least across the alliances. Yes, yes, One Tamriel removed the Technical Reason for this, but it did not remove the the Performance reason for providing multiple NPCs.

"Kill 5 wildlife in the area", smalles area possible, maybe 6 mobs around total....
30 people spaming aoes so they can get credit for a kill

Fish me a fish, 1 fishing hole with over 30 people on it...

@ZOS_GinaBruno can we please increasse the spawn rate, or just make the areas 10 times(no joke) bigger?

You would have thought they learned something from the 2016 anniversary event. Converging all players in three locations wasn't a great idea at the time, let alone converging them all in a single location.

EVENT = FAIL

But they introduced the lag bug BEFORE the event and then scrambled to fix and and failed. Now that's happening ON TOP OF the event lag.

It looks like the best bet is to skip the event completely and in a week to 10 days, buy the skinchanger motif and any collectables you want from players guild vendors. The price should drop towards the end of the event like last time.
