Why is there so much lag/crashes in the New Life Festival?

Limiting event chests to 10 a day was the nail in the coffin for me. I don't have multiple characters so I wont be able to farm them as I would like. Halloween event got everything right, it was fun and addicting. I still don't understand how ZoS was able to practically *** up every good aspect of that event for this one, from fun content to items sold in the crown store.

the crashing is so bad for ps4 - i was actually playing Overwatch when the update installed and it froze up and kicked me out of my Overwatch game i was grouped in - the patch is that bad

I didn't actually have any performance issues on the PC EU server myself, it was crowded as heck but ran very smoothly. However, it isn't helpful in these circumstances when half the players constantly let off AoE spells and add to the problems some are experiencing. It's always ZOS that get the blame, but the fault doesn't always lie just with them - daft though it was to set the event up this way, I'm in no doubt whatsoever on that point - it's also down to some of the players and we shouldn't ignore that. I wonder, for example, how many guild leaders have asked, or will ask, their members not to cast AoE spells in crowded areas during this event? It's a crappy design for an event, but players have the option to make the best of it or mess it up even more for everyone else.

Boocrap. ZOS is perfectly capable of planning and provisioning the necessary resources. They just failed to do it.
As annoying as some players are, it isn't on them to maintain server performance.

This crap is ridiculous. ZOS hasn't done anything to fix the crashing on PS4 Pro yet and I'm getting a crash nearly every time I try to go to Eastmarch to get a quest or the XP buff because there is a thousand players just standing around there.

I've tried three times now to get the quest from Breda. My characters keep crashing when standing there talking to her and then I'm not able to log them in. Keeps saying the connection to the server is lost after I choose a character in that zone and then hit play.

edited to say that I play on the PC NA server.

memento exp buff or exp drink as reward for quests would reduce masses of ppl gathering in one spot, also monster/fish respawn is poor, too many ppl in one area...

other than that event is not bad

ZOS could fix this lagfest right now if they wanted to. Take the servers down for an hour if necessary and do an emergency server side patch that drastically lowers the number of players per instance.

I doubt it would be this simple - nothing seems to be too simple when it comes to a MMO.

But something needs to be done about the max number of players per instance until the servers are able to deal with the current situation. Or, realistically, until people lose interest on the event in about a week.

Increasing the number of things to kill/fish holes so that the event can cater to the whole population of a MMO instead of looking like it is designed for a max of ten players would be nice, too.

Your message is loud and clear now ZOS. You want more of my money for less of your goods. You want me to pay the same cost for your sub, DLCs, and items but provide less quality content. When something new is going to roll along, I won't get my hopes up because it'll be missing something vital or executed poorly.

So a quick update following up on my earlier post(#27)

I have since completed all 9 quests on two of my characters and done a few other bits and pieces.

I am om PC-EU.

My ping has been fine, the odd 999+ spike but not so it's been enough to be annoying.

I have crashed 4 maybe 5 times, however on every occasion except one I was able to log straight back in, the other occasion took two attempts.

The issue with the performance kit not working in Alcaire Castle has not happened to me except on my second character I had to move once into space to get it to work.

All in all I have really enjoyed my evening the quests are amusing and nice and short, although normally I wouldn't crash at all in a play session my overall state of mind is happy!

With performance issues of this magnitude ZOS should start praying that people, particularly new players, don't swear off the game all together. ESO already has a pretty bad rep within the MMO world (mostly due to the issues it had at launch). People want to believe that it's gotten better but this level of short-sightedness and lack of planning/preparation, coupled with the myriad of other issues that have built up over the past few months, does nothing but solidify the negative opinions that people have. Every update brings more issues (not saying it's all bad, but it's true) and I can only imagine what they will break when housing is released. I've been a paying subscriber for over a year and I truly love the game but I know a bad investment when I see one.

Xbox EU - alikr dessert it is seriously broken, have been having difficulty going there since event launched, fair enough i thought, theres lots of people on i thought..... well its 3:30 in the morning - and there arent a lot of people on anymore and the loading screens are worse!

I'm on NA/PC. Very seldom crash (not once in the last 6 months IIRC). Just crashed for the 3rd time in 10 mins. Doesn't seem to be directly related to the festival either. I got the crash report for the 1st 2 crashes, the 3rd has just frozen the game. The new life festival would be tons of fun if I could actually play it

Well I woke up early to knock out some of these New Life festival quest (XBOX One EU). I had the fishing quest first so I headed to Shadowfen. There were not a lot of people out here at this time so I found an empty hole and started fishing.. caught my 3 fish and decided I would stock up on a few more fish. However my fishing locked up, I could not do any actions (attack and or fish) but I could wayshrine out.. so I turned in the fish to lady in Shadowfen and then wayshrined to East March but instead got stuck in an endless loadscreen. If this is how the day starts out (early in the morning I might add) then I am not even sure I want to even try play the rest of the day!

Khajiit was thrown out into the great white space beyond at least once in every quest - usually when travelling to or from Eastmarch.

In the end this one was sleepy and gave up after the seventh quest.

I have around 100 ms ping and 30+ fps in Windhelm even near the event NPC (Breda) .and the game never crashed for me on one of my accounts . Didn't have time to do the event on the other account because I'm working more in this period of the year.

Perhaps next time have the quest giver in an internal location where this one suspects it may be easier for you to limit the number of travellers in each version of that location perhaps?

I think the problem here is preparedness.

We are constantly being told on these forums how the game is dying, how the population is leaving, and then we all get surprised when there's a ton of players around.

Zenimax surely know the numbers of their own game. They surely know how many people are playing. Their server technology seems to be designed around the fact that there's not this many players, and they need to rethink the server tech they have, in my opinion.

This happens with every update, especially with new zones. They need to really think hard about population caps and instances and upgrade and make changes to their servers as appropriate to keep them healthy and working.

Don't worry, though, there is a sale on mimic stones and the next holiday event will introduce server performance shards, which you can purchase at a sale price of 9 for 2000 crowns. The server performance shards can be combined into server performance gems (10 shards per gem) to increase server stability for 30 minutes.

It still has to be at ESO or wherever we are all entering. Perhaps in their DMZ, their load balancers, routers, front-end servers, authentication/authorization, whatever.

I am playing on xbox one NA server and today I was doing quests from Breda as normal and then as I turned one in it froze on me. When I logged back in I talked to Breda to get another quest and now it doesn't even show a quest for me to get from her.

My hunch was that they switched network providers given the lack of re-routing you get with first rate backbone connection providers. This would explain why some people get bizarre traceroute results whereas others can continue to play.

That would also explain the complete silence regarding this issue. It's not something you can fix with server maintenance or a client patch.

But that's just speculation. Fatigue with any grind-based game is normal. And it's never pleasant when developers are forced to switch from ongoing investment in a game to optimizing returns on what is often perceived as a game's decline phase.

Their customer service people were good and prompt in refunding the money I paid for my subscription.

Still I couldn't help but check back in to see if the situation had improved. Yes, the Van Halen lyrics, "Dream another dream..." play in your head but it's not easy letting go. There is much to like in this game and no future 200 million dollar western online games on the immediate horizon, sadly.
