Why is there so much lag/crashes in the New Life Festival?

Finally got back in. You won't be seeing me back in Eastmarch any time soon.

You would have thought they learned something from the 2016 anniversary event. Converging all players in three locations wasn't a great idea at the time, let alone converging them all in a single location.

ZOS has a knack for repeating the same mistakes over, and over, and over again. You would swear that they base their whole office operations on the movie "Groundhog Day".

Well...I am at work and I was looking forward to logging in tonight when I get home. But it sounds like for most people it is not going well. I really do not want to get a character stuck. And DC's inspire me to go do something else instead of playing ESO.

I don't know why they didn't plan for this. This on top of 3 maintenance days this week because things were already wonky. Stacking bad on top of bad. Are they intentionally trying to break everything?

    Celebrate the New Life Festival

I'd like to but some sadist at zos decided it would be a really great idea to dump EVERYONE in 1 single location without a second thought to the massive and utterly predictable server hit.

Crashed 2 steps from wayshrine next to zerg-of-NewLife; can;t re-log because you[zos] have 1 tiny server with a 6502 processor and 1 kB of ram deployed for handling every player in the eu server zone.

I'm betting the quests get handed out in the same order, too, so the zerg-of-NewLife lags and crashes its way from one zone to the next and back again.

    [pc-eu]

I didn't actually have any performance issues on the PC EU server myself, it was crowded as heck but ran very smoothly. However, it isn't helpful in these circumstances when half the players constantly let off AoE spells and add to the problems some are experiencing. It's always ZOS that get the blame, but the fault doesn't always lie just with them - daft though it was to set the event up this way, I'm in no doubt whatsoever on that point - it's also down to some of the players and we shouldn't ignore that. I wonder, for example, how many guild leaders have asked, or will ask, their members not to cast AoE spells in crowded areas during this event? It's a crappy design for an event, but players have the option to make the best of it or mess it up even more for everyone else.

I think with the issues that were happening before the event, they are not more prevalent. I had started crashing when using shrines in certain instances. Now it's not even just shrines. It's random. Certain zones are worse it seems.

I am curious if that is EU specific? I have been running around daggerfall and it has been completely fine, or it might just be a lucky break?

Actually the blame and responsibility is 100% on ZOS
    @Tandor
The game is designed to allow ppl to troll, harass and does little to nothing for any actual logic based performance adjustments

Logically you'd think maybe @ZOS_RichLambert or someone would read these posts and all the feedback on general, bugs and platform specific tech problems

A very large majority of complaints can be rectified by doing these basic adjustments

-disable all casting and emotes and mounting by quest NPCs
-disable dueling in common areas where crafting, wayshrines or quests are located
-ensuring that any special event use account bound momento
-considering the event quests be instances...meaning regardless of the type, the actual quests should be group eligible but instances as to cut down on gathering and clutter
-establish quest NPCs with a 15 meter radius for quest interaction and completion

-load player character last when there are quest NPCs in the radius but load the NPC first

This is a start regarding this topic

I've been reading a lot of negative feedback about the event.

Do I need to pickup a few things before I go home tonight; like a hammer, aspirin, or alcohol? Or a movie for the times I will be sitting in the load screens.

Prob should go ahead and get on cause it seems there will be a patch tomorrow. Maybe just a hotfix and no server downtime but you've been warned about the foolishness

I just did three of the quests on PS4 NA, and with the exception of an unusually long loading screen in Windhelm (30 seconds or so), I didn't have any other issues. *shrug* No DCs, no particularly bad lag...

The only thing that was annoying was camping monster spawn points in Grahtwood. Standing around spamming AOEs for five minutes is not my idea of fun. They need to up the respawn rate there pronto for the duration of the event.

This is a feature we do still intend to do, but there are many other things taking priority so we don't yet have an exact update when this will be implemented.

It looks like the best bet is to skip the event completely and in a week to 10 days, buy the skinchanger motif and any collectables you want from players guild vendors.

    Agreed.

This "event" ruined a raid evening for me.

Was supposed to play on my main healer. Had the glorious idea to quickly check out what this festival is all about before the raid starts, crashed after porting to Eastmarch, now game won't let me log in the character anymore.

Thank you ZOS. Not amused here.

As I've said, this was a daft event design by ZOS and for that they are certainly 100% responsible.

However, as with any game, the players have the choice whether to make the best of things, or to deliberately make things worse for everyone else. If they choose the former that does not excuse ZOS one iota for the poor design, but if they choose the latter it is entirely down to the players concerned and not ZOS. There's simply no excuse for making a bad situation worse, and while I agree entirely with your suggested adjustments, they don't relate to how things are tonight and only the players can make the best of things until fixes are introduced.
