VMA weapons - do the just drop in the hard mode?

I am wondering because I've never ran them before and I need to get a maelstrom staff for my sorcerer.

✭Sadly there is no hard mode in VMA. But hopefully we will get it one day.
And even if you run VMA hundreds of times, you won't get what you want silly. But be prepared to get lots of weapons you don't want/need.~ Gryphon Heart ~

✭✭✭✭✭There is no hard mode in vMA, unless by "hard mode", you mean vMA vs. nMA.
Weapons only drop in vMA. They do not drop in nMA.
The chance of getting a specific type of staff (e.g., a sharp fire staff) is 1-in-144 per run. It's extremely low and it's not uncommon to find someone who's run vMA hundreds of times and never gotten it. You might get very lucky and get it within the first few runs, but you should not go in with that expectation, and you should not get your heart too set on a build that requires a vMA staff.
Do vMA for the challenge that it presents and for the player progression that it offers. Don't do vMA expecting to get a weapon, as that will likely be even more rage-inducing than the arena itself.Nightfighters ― PC/NA and PC/EU

Meld777✭✭✭✭✭Maelstrom weapons drop in vMA. But only those that are worse than random, no-set, crafted Sharpened ones. If you want Sharpened Maelstrom weapons (swords, maces, resto, bow...), expect to run it hundreds of times. If you want the mythical Sharpened Inferno Staff, Sharpened Ice Staff or Sharpened Lightning Staff, you will not get it. Those who have them got them before Dark Brotherhood, when the loot tables weren't polluted yet. Now it requires an unrealistic amount of runs with no guarantee to ever get it.
450 runs here, no Sharpened Inferno. Not even Precise or Nirnhoned.

Traitdistribution is actually evenly spread, weapondistibution isn´t .There was a post a few weeks ago summerizing 1500 runs and drops. Even tho 1500 isn´t "enough" to prove anything, it gave you a strong hint.0 -
SolarCat02✭✭✭✭✭Someone in my guild got a Sharpened Inferno his very first time. I was in chat with him when it happened, so definitely genuine, no way to fake his screaming and crying or his recently-awoken father in the background investigating why he was woken up at that hour.
He is currently under threat of getting kicked from Trials groups if he posts it into chat anymore.
But yes, the Maelstrom weapons only drop from veteran, not normal. (Same for the Dragonstar Arena's Master weapons now, too.)Why be normal when you can be better?
