Housing/Balance Patch - Sharpened Trait

Croblasta
Croblasta
Do you think weapon traits need balancing in general? Sharp seems to be the only weapon trait people want.

No question there needs to be some sort of trait balancing. Really every other trait is either useless or niche at best, precise included. Whether this means nerfing sharpened or buffing the other traits is up to ZOS but something needs to be done. Would also help with the ridiculous state of RNG.

They should buff under used traits. I don't think, that sharpened needs a nerf, especially with all these heavy armor armies in pvp.

It's pretty much a must have.
For example charged, which increases the chance of elemental effects to proc. Would be cool, if it would also increase the damage done by then. Could be an alternative to sharpened for mages, if the damage done is equal in the end.

When they buffed Sharpened during the trait rebalance it made precise worthless for a DPs.

    It deserves to be nerfed.

In other words, to be put on par with Precise and Nirnhoned.

That's a good point, nerfing sharpened would make HA that much more OP. But isn't the fact that sharpened is currently a must have kinda the point of why traits need balancing? Other traits need to be made viable.

That would mean nerfing stam builds, to the ground. They would never buff magicka hahahahahahahahahahah etc

tbh both nirnhoned and precise should be buffed to sharpened not the other way round otherwise heavy armor in pvp will just be out of control. Give us three viable end game build choices crit or damage or penetration.

Nirnhoned is good I get 149 so weapon damage if you put ur dual wield bar on the main.

Precise should be increase crit chance and damage of it seems like a decent balance if ZOS thinks of that.

Decisive should give out more ultimate.

Charged should be increase the effectiveness of ur elements as well as increase status effect.

Powered should be increase healing done and received.

Training should be increase quest xp as well.

    Example weap traits ideas:
    1. Increase dot dmg by X (amount needs to be found by testing, so against heavy armored targets it will be abit weaker than sharpen, against medium equal and against light better)
    2. Increase dmg of melee skills by X. (same as above)
    3. Increase dmg of ranged skills by X.
Or simply buff nirnhoned as above.
    4. Increase weapon skills penetration (higher than sharpen but no penetration for class skills)
    5. Increase class skills penetration (reverse above)
    6. Precise increase chance AND dmg done by criticals.
    7. Each attack you do taunts NPCs.

    Armor traits ideas:
1.Reduce damage against melee skills. (better than impenetrable against melee attackers but no protection against ranged)
    2. Reduce damage against ranged skills (as above).
So in general having 3/4 this traits armor would be some kind of equal with full impenetrable so you would have more diversity in traits + it would also be useful in PvE.
    3. Prosperous: Increase gold amount it gives + increases tel var stones gains (full prosperous = 30% more tvs and 100% more gold) you cant tell me that soloing a boss in IC with 30% more tvs gain isnt tempting ;) Or it increases chances for better quality loot from all sources ;)
    4. Training, also increases amounts of AP gains.
    5. Suppresion. Reduces time of negative effects (including dots) applied to you by x.
I'm done with this game because of ZOS pushing us into Vengeance, because they don't know how to fix Cyrodiil.

Id prefer other traits to be buffed so they can easily compete with sharpened, dont nerf sharpened, that only indirectly buffs heavy armor, and heavy armor does not need a bufff in any way whatsoever..on the contrary.

Yes.... nerf my Sharpened weapons so a console pleb like myself has to buy 16 Tempering Alloys (20K a piece minimum) to upgrade a new pair of swords.... -_-

I vote to buff underused traits rather than make existing Sharpened Weapons which people have farmed for multiple patches useless. That'd probably make me consider quitting ESO entirely. I didn't grind vMA for my Sharpened weapons to become garbage.

I think buffing all other traits sounds a lot more fun than simply nerfing sharpened. Probably more work though, so I'm not sure ZOS will opt for that idea.

I'd love Training to affect ALL exp, so exploration as well. I just really want to make non-violent challenge playthroughs more viable in this game, and I doubt gathering exp will ever happen now that we have crafting bags

Sorry, I didn't nessasarily mean to nerf sharpened, a trait rebalance would work too. It just seems trait wise for DPS it's sharpened and that's it. I'll edit the original post.

Regarding the "balance patch", I thought ZoS mentioned class rebalance would be part of the housing patch and was curious if the community thought weapon traits need rebalancing.

    Cheers!

People are complaining about sharpened when Nirn has been nerfed into uselessness? I don't get it. Before anything is done with the sharpened trait, they need to fix the broken nirn trait, which is actually massively broken.

    When did precise become useless?

when sharpened was changed to 5k penetration and thus made VERY strong inboth PvE and PvP. The only people that actually consider precise are those with extreme raid-wide pve penetration that MAY hit the 0 resist mark on all relevant encounters (i.e. not only the sngle target bosses but also those adds that matter)

that said, I think the traits are actually fine:
    sharpened is top for damage
    powered is top for heal
precise affects damage and (self/other) heal
nirn affects damage, heal and damage vs very high impen, very low resist+other penetration and damage against damage shields
defending provides the best def and is "sharpened reversed"

training et al are crap ofc
Only decisive might need a slight buff. It has it's niche but that niche isn't filled perfectly, imho - because the values are just too low.

However, it's still true that every DD just wants sharpened. Imho there should some more 0-resist adds + mechanics in PvE raids and there should be more relevant damage shields in raids that follow PvP rules for damage sheilds (i.e. no resits and full damage, no crits). Also restoring damage shields and crits (not too bad actually since impen got toned down a little) to some of their glory in pvp could help.

That way the choice of the trait would be really hard - everythnig would have its benefits and the ideal setup would chance form boss to boss.

some ideas look useful...however if you go with the idea from point 7 above "Each attack you do taunts NPCs" how much more OP would Tremorscale become when any type of attack you do can proc it...and no this is not directed at PvP players as the point was specifically about NPC's, but you can see how mad that set would become in PvE

They changed the traits a few updates ago, don´t think they will change them this soon. And to those who says all traits besides sharpened is useless have no idea what they´re talking about.

Precise > sharpened, when it comes to dps when bosses resistance is at 0 (not often that happen but I just takes this an example)

Technically, the traits did get a balancing a while back which is why Sharpened overtook Nirnhoned.

If they got changed again, some number nerd (no offense intended - much respect to hardcore number nerds!) will discover which new trait is best and everyone will want it for the most common situations.

I like the idea of revamping some of them to have more alternatives; buffing other things like DOTs or specific Elemental damage, etc. That would be cool. I'd like a trait that buffed lightning damage and synergized well with the Netch set for example.

But as @Kas alread stated, the other traits are useful in certain scenarios and in general are decently balanced.
