Why do people frequently post up their DPS results on each boss fight?

OK so you got addons that records your DPS... good for you.... Are you that egotistical to actually believe that the rest of the world cares for what number you get for each boss kills? Jesus get over yourself! Nobody cares what high number you get. Just play the damn game already and quit spamming the chat with your nonsense junk.

Its good thing to do in pugs, trust me. So many times it simply made some big mouthed ppl realize how much do they contribute compared to what they think they contribute. I don't post it unless its necessary.

Why does it bother you, some people are proud of their abilities and achievements. Are you that insecure that you really get upset when someone posts a simple dps parse in chat? is it really that big of a deal? A lot of times it's common especially for raiders as they do it anyway to show their progress during a raid, a force of habit if you will. On the scale of things anyone should ever give 2 flying f&*ks about in this game tbh this is extremely low. Harden up a bit.

Well, posting your dps in chat is an easy way to save it and analyze it after you're done with the dungeon. Or would you prefer it if your group mates would stop after every boss fight to write down their dps manually?

In short, when I post my numbers, there is a solid chance that at least one other dps/healer/tank is from my trials guild. The other dps and I are on roughly equal footing in terms of raw damage, so we like to compete with little pressure. The healer/tank is also familiar with my average performance and can usually tell when they've had really good buff rotation with warhorn/infall/spc/combat prayer etc. Or when training up a new sorc dps, he can compare his numbers with mine to see whether he is on the right track, since every fight is different with boss movements and dodging, etc. So I can serve as a baseline for his progress.

In essence, if you are seeing my numbers it's because you are the one person that we grabbed from zone and I feel no need to hide anything from you. And if I may... don't let it bother you. Sit back and enjoy the fact that you will probably have a good shot a getting a free vWGT no death - hardmode - speed run.

I'm sorry if the numbers annoy you, but remember that it's likely not about you.

You can also take a screenshot of your progression. It gets stored on your hard drive without irritating others of your spam in chat.

but sometimes dps isnt matter most, sometimes just total damage to boss is more matter because of mechanics etc....and just maybe need to post in group because of slack by2nd random dps? for example boss 3m health, you have done 2m health, healer 500k+ health because of buffs/debuffs and finisher at end ofc , tank maybe 50k-100k by tayning eetc

and they time for 2nd DD, random DD who pulled only 400k health from boss with 3m health, is possibly this he had also cap cp and now or you will struggle with him to end dung....if it is lvery low cp you can some teach him, help him, if it is someone with max cp who have problem to some learn, listen you/rest group then just kick or also if you have no time to do longer this dung with this noob and have someone exp in friends/guild then also kick him and inv other with whiwch you will run this dung in momen :P

Yup that's me (In the GIF) each time I see someone spam the chat with their DPS results. I just want to crank up a bottle of wine and just celebrate the players victory.

Am I suppose to reward them for having a high DPS? What am I suppose to do in this kind of situation? Am I suppose bake some cookies and upload it to them for doing such a great job in defeating the boss? You tell me what I need to do.

Well it is annoying if people do it at every damn fight, but I often ask for dps numbers from my group.

Sometimes when we have a new guild member DD in my group and they don't have FTC, I ask the experienced DD to post their dps, to see how much the new DD actually pulled in total... it's a lot of guessing and I need to know if they're capable to pull their weight in the harder veteran dungeons or not.

Don't worry about it. Posting DPS is a very old habit. It has been going on in mmo's for ages. They aren't being mean or arrogant. They are opening up a conversation between others of like mind. It is not directed at you or casual players. Think of it like a sportsmanship club meeting where the host has big antlers on the wall. You wouldn't go to someone's hunting lodge and complain the mounted rack was to big how dare they display it. Same kinda thing.

Personaly I dont mind it. Why?
1. When I play tank or heal its good to know that dps actually deals some damage not just spam useles skills.
2. When I play DPS its good to have comparision, you can always learn something from better ones.
3. I hate ppl who think like: "Im not a tank, Im not a healer so Im dps". No youre not. If your single target DPS is lower than 20k (I dont have sky high demands) youre just a newbie that needs to work a bit to become DPS! (just as tank needs to get his gear and taunts, learn mechanics of bosses, heal needs to have high healing done, regen and buff team etc.). Ofc if youre low lvl and group decides to run with you, do your job as hard as you can. If youre 300CP+ player, you have to have some numbers behind you or you will be treated like a newbie.

That's why I prefer using combat metrics since it remembers all your recent fights. Don't remember exactly what is the max number of recent fights it can remember, but I think it's 50. So you can do the whole dungeon without spamming numbers in the chat and still have all the numbers just for your information.

Picture this. You work in an office where the guy in the cubical next to you tells you a joke when he makes a sale. The same joke he told you the last time he made a sale. And the time before that. And the time before that. The same, damn, joke, day after day after day.
