Are weapon boxes dependent on what character opens them?

So, i've finally started doing the dark brotherhood and Thieve's guild missions, and I've run across a few reward boxes. First is a Purple Sithe Weapon box, and the other is a blue foot box, and I'm just curious if I need to open them on the specific character that I plan on using the weapon, or if it doesn't matter.

And if it doesn't matter, then what exactly is the purpose of the box..lol.

The rewards are random within the loot table for the Reward container. The character that opens it should. It have an affect on what is received.

The rewards inside the container will scale to your character's level. So if your character is below level 50 the item inside will be scaled to that level. If you open it on a character who is above level 50 it will be scaled to your champion rank. Which item you get (I.e whether you get an axe, a dagger, a staff, light armour, heavy armour etc.) is completely random.

It is, however, worth mentioning that ALL bound equipment in this game is bound to your account and not to your character. This means that if you get a piece of equipment on one character that you really want to use on another, it can be transferred freely between your characters through banking. Just remember that the item will scale to your character's level when he or she receives it.

They scale to the level of the character at the moment of the first opening. Once you opened a coffer, even if you don't take the items out, the contents are locked in place and that level is set. So if you want max-level gear and earned a coffer on a lowbie character, you can just hold onto it, never opening it to peek inside, and then open it once you reach max level.
