Show of hands, how many veteran players have stopped queueing for veteran dungeons?

I'm a tank main, with only recently having rolled a DPS and I want some general consensus on something. When One Tamriel hit with it's new resistances, I basicly stopped pugging vet dungeons. The difficulty and skill requirement increase ment very few DPS were up to the challenge anymore, and even then, It's not that I cant tank these new dungeons, I have. It's that the RNG based reward is no longer worth the trouble, and now I find myself just queueing for normal for pledges nowadays.

Is this normal? Are there other vet players who've just decided to queue normal and save themselves the hell?

I pug still, but through zone chat and not the queue. Too many variables to do a vet with pure randoms. At least if we talk before we go in, I know I won't have a "tank" in medium armor with a two hander.

I honestly had someone say that a two hander bow back bar was close to a tank, and queuing as a dps takes too long...

If i have time for vet i run it, but normal is so fast and easy and i can tank que as a dps most of them. If i can do 3chars of pledges in the time i can do a set of vets, why vet?

Why would I pug vet dungeons? More importantly, why in Oblivion would I do it blind?

I'll take anyone, literally anyone for a regular dungeon, story II or story I.

I never do it unless I am bored to death and there is nobody on. I'd rather save myself the horrors of the builds one sees in there.

I used to Pug it through zone mostly just because I like pugging, stupid as it is. Though lately I've just given up and gone and queued for normal because Normal is more fun.

I didn't exactly need the gear, or anything, just did it for fun, y'know? But now the fun is gone because the reqs are so high.

I never the group finder. I look in zone and guild. Allows me to be much more selective about who I run with. I can usually tell right away if someone won't be able to fulfill their role properly so that I'm not wasting my time. I'll probably keep doing vets until I have all the jewelry and helms I need, then maybe switch to normals except for when a friend or guildie needs me for vet.

I typically group with guildmates for dungeons. I don't even see the point in pugging. The dungeons aren't overly hard in many cases, but the new pumped up boss health and one shot mechanics aren't something I want to experience with pugs. I also have a personal preference for voice chat while I'm gaming and guildies don't mind talking while we go through content.

It depends on the player and their tolerance level for PUG groups I think.

I've been using it more lately when guildies aren't running ... with mixed results.

One time I got queued into Blackheart Haven when the existing group was on the final boss ... but I wanted to do the pledge instead.

Other times, I see players queue for a Vet dungeon and then get overwhelmed by the boss mechanics or bosses themselves.

But, I also see brand new players that think they are in over their head ... but then do fine and complete the pledge (to their amazement).

I haven't run any dungeons recently due to being away for a year or so (not by choice) and it's taking me some time to get my builds and gear back up to par. Not to mention I still have to relearn all the dungeon and boss mechanics. :/

If I need gear from a particular dungeon, particularly if it's not jewelry, I queue for both the normal and the vet versions of that dungeon. Pretty good rate of success so far. I always use my templar healer for this, for what it's worth.

With subscription I am so doomed, I always get thrown into the DLC dungeons as a healer and I can't stand it ...I don't use grouping tool for veteran dungeons and haven't done that for many months now.

I don't know why I always get into DLC dungeons... it's like there is a 80% chance of throwing me in there, instead of the non-DLC ones.

I had a bunch of really bad experiences in veteran PUGs after OT. Bad as in "my tank is doing more DPS than the entire group" type of bad. After those runs I either just solo the normal version (the ones I am able to anyways) or find a group in the zone, or with guildmates if I happen to on when other people are doing their runs. If you are a regular in the same zone you begin to recognize names (both good and bad) and the general veteran dungeon experience is pretty good.

The only thing I use the dungeon finder for now is doing the odd random normal (never random veteran) as even in the worst case I can probably carry the 3 others no matter the level or capabilities.

Puging in vet is still a lot of fun.

Step 1. Vote to kick anyone under cp 200

Step 2. Vote to kick anyone who clearly does not belong in a vet dungeon.
Example: I just had a 450cp dps who only used light attack on his bow. When we asked him about it he proceed to use 3 wrecking blows then run out of stam and just stand there.

Step 3. leave all groups that can't be fixed and possibly all DLC dungeons. One perk of unsubing is not having to even have those dungeons show up in q.

    Cheers!

lowly cp280 tank here. i queue for both normal and vet pledge and would just do whichever that comes up first. i got the impression that it's not uncommon for a vet pug to go faster than a norm pug. norm pug you get all sort of people. vet pug you get people who think they know what they are doing and think they can handle the difficulty.

Eh I don't do any dungeon myself. I find them boring and tedious. I hate depending on others :P

I have 11 max level characters, soon to be 12. That's half of what some of the people around here have.

I've done 1 vet (HM) dungeon since 1T. I did 2 vet dungeons since DB. I have been grinding Undaunted via the daily quests.

I'd like to do them but work weird hours and don't have a cadre of like-minded/like-skill level friends on at the same time anymore and basically will not pug. Never could stand it.

Oh, wait... I didn't even do the whole dungeon now that I think of it. Got asked to come for the endboss by a near-stranger on my friends list (my friends list is amazing and I'll drop anything to help people) in Selene's Web.

Oddly enough, my heavy armor magsorc in Thunderbug/Storm Knight did not do so well in there and I grabbed my good old main magblade. No problems then, but more intense than I'd have guessed.

It's fun... when you're with the right people. That last bit is the important bit of the equation.

What exactly is the difference between using random dungeon finder and grouping with random people from zone chat?
Today is a blessing. Yesterday is in the past and tomorrow is a mystery.

Non-vet: Sure, I do it all the time, without preconditions.

Random vet, as tank or healer: No, because if I get a bad group, I can't carry them as a tank or healer.

Random vet, as a DPS: In theory, yes, because I can carry a bad group, but the queue times are too long to be worthwhile.

Specific vet: Yes, because certain dungeons (e.g., CoA1, CoH2, VoM, Volenfell, Darkshade, etc.) can be done without a dedicated tank/healer. In those cases, I don't mind queuing as a tank/healer, because if the group is too bad, I can gear-swap to DPS and carry.

Random vet, with a partially-formed group: Yea. If we're just LF1M or LF2M, it's usually not a problem to carry someone if they turn out to be really bad.

I have met some really good players via Group Finder and have some people on my friends list who I met that way, so I'm not opposed to it. The main downside is the risk of getting into a group where I end up having to carry three others, but sometimes I'm in the mood for taking that risk because it does pay off now and then.

I use it every day just won't pug dungeons like icp but the vanilla dungeons are so easy that even if they are bad healers tanks and dps I can still get through them I use the other players as distractions and just dps everything down.

I use to play a tank but got sick of being the only one alive and dps not doing the job right. As a tank boss fight last forever until they drop so I switch my build now it's not an issue.

Point is if ur good does not matter who u do the vet dungeons with u will still finish them.

I still PUG Vet Dungeons and rarely have a problem with HM completion. However as I did before 1T I don't que for vet dungeons where DPS is essential, so the vet DLC dungeons and vet CoA2. I sometimes PUG vet CoH2 but only if I have the time to endure a few wipes for the group to co-ordinate together.

Since 1T I am still deciding whether to add Selene's to the no PUG list. Otherwise as I said no real change since 1T for me.
PUG Life - the true test of your skill

18 characters, 17 max level, at least 1 Stam and 1 Mag of every class, 1 of every race and 1200+ CP

Tanked to Undaunted 9+ Mag and Stam of every class using Group Finder for 90+% of the Vet Dungeon runs
