I went to play dollar blackjack with 20$. After 40 minutes and 5 dealer changes I left with 17$. It was fun, and I felt like it was worth the money I lost. Casinos are designed with gambling in mind.

Yup. And that is why people go to a casino.

That is not generally at the top of the list for why people play RPG games.
    Exactly.

And like someone else mentioned; the lady ZOS hired to manage this aspect of the game, has a trail of dead MMO's behind her on her path here.

Every MMO that has instituted similar methods of gambling-for-profit through RNG packages for real money, has gone P2W shortly after, and regular content releases (DLC) has slowed to a crawl as more and more development time goes towards creating nothing more than... shiny turds to go in those "crates".

No MMO has survived moves like these in their cash shops. None.

Haha, that was me. Her LinkedIn profile was quite the read as well. I won't name her here because they'll shut the thread down, but it's quite a damming resume if you're a person who can't stand the way those f2p/p2w "games" do business.
    lol Awesome.

And yeah, I read the LinkedIn profile as well. Which is why I also referred to her as "the lady". ;)

And yeah, it is pretty damning. Most of those MMO's either 1) were great before she went to work on them, or 2) had such great potential before their moves in the cash shop under her direction.

Either way, those MMO's were either ruined or died due to what you and I have already mentioned, and all because of the directions she took the cash shops and development time/focus.

The future doesn't look too bright at all IMO.

I wonder, will you still be so happy when you burn all your crowns on crates and don't get a single mount?

You can be as excited as you want, but you are dragging down the community with your misplaced enthusiasm. Gambling boxes might be OK for a sleazy, low-quality free-to-play game, but they have no place in a AAA title which heretofore had never offered a gambling service, nor did the community ask for one, nor would it conceivably benefit the playerbase compared to preexisting marketing strategies.

The reason gambling boxes are so bad, and which apparently you don't seem to understand based on your comment history, is that you are no actually guaranteed any specific item, no matter how much you spend. That's a mathematical fact, and completely incontestable. So even if you're spending literally millions of dollars on the gambling boxes, there's a chance you'll never get even one of the mounts you want, let alone ones from different gambling box types. This is a complete divorce from what we normally expect and actually want from a cash shop. We want specific items at a set price so that we can:
    • Know what we're getting
    • Know how much we're paying for it

If you don't like fair trade and ethical market dynamics, maybe this isn't the community for you.

It's been proved over and over again that the vast majority of the community is against Crown Crates yet we don't see any reply like: "guys we're working around this issue". Nothing. It's concerns me comming from a company that says they listen alot to community feedback.

I mean.. i wouldnt mind (as much) if i was GUARANTEED one yellow, one purple, one blue and a handful of other random items. And each time I'm unlocking new things, and once the new things are unlocked they get taken out of the loot table. This way I would know that i would be able to get these, "rare things i cant get anymore," feasibly. But having to spend over 200 dollars for a "maybe" is, while profitable for ZOS, its very shady for us the consumers/customers. I wont participate as long as the PTS testers says things like

"I dont get anything even worth 400 crowns."

That is huge, coming from someone actually testing this feature.

I'm preparing my collection of "I told you so" gifs for when the threads start showing up :)
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

I also have the tiger, clouded leopard, leopard leopard, black panther, and lioness. Senche are my pokemon, apparently. I think a guar got in there somehow too; I think I got it when I made a dunmer character. I buy mimic stones for my crafter. I just picked up the cat mask and the grim harlequin motif. The main difference being that I knew exactly what I was buying. I paid a set cost, and I got the item I wanted in return.

If a Coke and a Twix make you happy, when you go to the store do you buy an unmarked container that says "Soda" and a box that says "Candy bar" and hope to get a Coke and a Twix? How many containers and boxes are you willing to buy to take a chance on getting what you actually want? When you bought your big tv, did you go to the store and buy a box that said "Television" on it? How many "Television" boxes are you willing to buy to make sure you get the specific one you want? When you buy that vehicle, do you go to the dealership and buy one that's under a tarp that you can't see until you pay for it? And when you find a generic toyota under the tarp you can trade it back for tokens, but only for a fraction of what you paid for it. *And* the tokens you get in trade can only be used eventually buy what you actually wanted in the first place. You have the cash; a few hundred thousand and you'll get that corvette, just keep buying those Tarp Covered Vehicles.

Only people with serious issues play the lottery for anything more than fun and a chance to win. I'm talking serious issues like mortgaging your house to buy tickets.

People who tested the crates, myself among them, posted their results on the pts forum. If it makes you happy to spend approximately 33,000 crowns to get a mount you want [most expensive one in the past cost 5,000 outright] *if* RNGesus smiles on you, then yes, my opinion is that some amount of reason and coherent thought is lacking.

Yes! Thank you @JKorr your comment is awesome and deserves to be quoted and re-quoted!

I have no intent to buy crates. I don't like lotteries. But I also recognize that individuals are responsible for their own choices and entities like ZOS, or a government, are not responsible to prevent them from making stupid choices if those choices are not a risk to the public at large.

ZOS isn't going to stop this train. If you don't like where it's going, please get of the train or quit annoying those of us who choose to stay. Based on what I've seen, most of the PAWS people's arguments are anecdotal, logical fallacies or inconsistent with their worldview. Arguments about right and wrong require the existence of a single, intelligent, supreme being who has authority to define objective right and wrong and is interested and engaged in what's happening in the universe. If you don't believe in such a being, right and wrong is just your subjective opinion and no better than anyone else's opinion.

Finally, I'm quitting threads about crown crates. I'm tired of reading the same poorly argued FUD from the same small, but very loud, minority. So I'm taking responsibility for my own choices and not reading any more of these threads.

I advise the rest of you who are arguing with the PAWS people to do the same. Let them talk to each other in their own echo chamber. Their minds are made up--except perhaps on whether or not they'll really, permanently leave. But of course, it's your choice, and you're responsible for any blood pressure, ulcer or other issues you develop arguing with them. Just some friendly advice.

You have too much faith in humanity if think OP wasn't being genuine. I wish some of the things I read on a daily basis were trolls but there are people like this out there which is why "trolling" rarely makes any sense.

If you won't drop the Crown Crates idea because of bad feedback, at least consider the impact it will have on the community! Crown Crates haven't even been implemented yet and the amount of negativity and toxic, depressing forum threads on the issue are phenomenal. Even going as far as creating a petition. People are mad and rightfully so! Now imagine when Crown Crates go live! Be prepared for a riot! I don't know how much of the player base is on the forums, but I can guarantee you we give you a good idea of what the entire player base wants. And what we want, is NO CROWN CRATES! Or at least no Crown Crates as they have been originally advertised. Either extreme changes must be made or scrap it completely.

ZOS have stuck there fingers in there ears and humming along at this point they don't give 2 Sh.ts about the community and how toxic this idea has become THEY WANT MONEY .. Hate to say it this game is doomed now when they stop listening to the ppl and start looking at there wallet.. Sure they need money for content etc but with one bad f.ck up after another they have no one to blame but themselves now they need money and disgustingly are trying to scam it out of ppl . Shame on you ZOS.... Going to be a bitter sweet day when this game dies.. I frankly can't wait for there money hungry ideas to bite them in the arse!

    As mentioned previously.

I'm ready to drop $300.00 on release of these crown crates just to ensure a mount :)

I feel like it's people being hurt because they.

    1. Don't have money
    2. Don't feel like gambling to get "what they want" - which is why MOST of you are having a cry (deal with it)
    3. Think it's PAY to win (which it isn't as it's purely "looks")

If it gave you extra mount speed, if it gave you a mad title, if it somehow gave you a player the advantage over another that has spent 0 then it's pay to win. Which in that case I'd be with you all 100%.

If we want to blow our money out of our butts then it's our choice not you people on forums crying every god dam day.

Sure it might be somewhat of a step in a certain direction BUT until we see PAY to win features i think the whole craze of cry cry cry on forums until they listen to me mentality is misplaced.

Because let's face it... you have people like me and others who are ready to empty our wallets and the reality is?

ZOS won. Fair and square they enticed us to WANT something we don't have. They advertised something that has captured and amazed us, much like walking past a store on a saturday morning.

I agree it's gambling but the reality is, the mount comes with an estimated value of $300.00 if you don't want to invest THIS amount don't do it, as you would be considered some what of a moron as without this investment you MAY or MAY not get what you're seeking.

Sorry to be so forthcoming or rude in some peoples eyes but this is the absolute truth.

@Lukums1 if you think those are the reasons, you haven't been reading the posts made by people who are against the crates at all.

    Hold up.

Every second post is about money.

    The Gambling.

Placing items in store which isn't (obtainable by other NORMALISH) players.

Please don't mistake what I wrote to suit your particular view, I have been reading and following these pages.
To continue the bashing of ZOS or bashing your own heads against the wall because of the proposed crown crates is silly...

I'm honestly not trying to be rude at all, so I am sorry if I'm coming across in that manner but this is what I've come to a conclusion with.

I think you'd agree with at least what I'm meaning do you not?

@Lukums1 , no, you have not.

You know how I know you have not?

You didn't mention once the main issue, which pretty much EVERYBODY who is against the crates mentioned at least once: The direction a game takes after they introduce these crates is really, really bad. Every single game. Not one game that made this move, ESPECIALLY with a certain lady behind it, escaped this fate. Free to play, content scarcity, crates becoming main and then only source of income, complete ruin. There is no reason to think it will be different with ESO, especially since that same lady that killed so many games with this kind of scheme is working with ZOS now.

It is always like this. Always. We saw this happening way too many times.

We are not going to contribute to that because we care about the direction of the game. Because we are TES fans and we want the game to thrive.

The reason why you are seeing so many posts about gambling and money is because you crate supporters keep bringing it up as if those were the actual issues we have with the crates.

I'm saddened that you guys are going to support this, especially for something so futile like a shiny new mount. Maybe you are MMO hoppers so it doesn't matter if ESO goes down this route to you, because you are just going to migrate to the next game.

I for one don't think a shiny new mount is worth the health of the game.
