This is such overlooked design on ZOS's part and it is still in the game for who knows what reason, and it's quite frustrating not only does it fall into grieving it is highly disruptive gameplay inside dungeons and trials, placing them on doors or chests so people can't get through them because the interact key is the same.

Fixing these to not work inside dungeons or trials would be quite nice

Shouldn't even be an issue in the first place inside dungeons & trials, it's just obvious overlooked bad design that causes obstacles with the intention of disturbing ones gameplay, because you feel the need to troll a not so good trial group to stress people out leading it.

I'd say just make the interact key different. Or maybe make it so you can use the + and - keys to toggle through if there's more than one interactable in an area. Vampire feeding and pickpocketing anyone?

Caking a door is very disruptive. I expect when the Witches festival ends and the buff is no longer active that the witches cauldron is going to be another thing like cake, blocking a door.

    @ZOS_GinaBruno

Instead of disabling collectables in trials, could we have the door interact action's priority changed, such that opening the door would take precident over collectibles used near them?

I'm going to put this idea in my pocket, and save it for the next time we run wgt, and cake the door when we are running past a bunch of crematorial guards.

I can almost hear it now... "What? There's cake here. I can't hit the door. I can't hit the door! THE GUARDS ARE HERE AND I CAN'T... I'm dead."

To which I will reply, in my best leroy jenkins impersonation "But at least you have cake".

I didn't even know cake door was a thing! Hadn't seen it till now. Perhaps when the events are ended, like with the cake, they should make it so that only you can interact. (Although this would be a very sad solution, since its fun to all share some cake randomly)

I've never had anyone cake a door in a Group Finder PUG.

The only times I've had doors or chests get caked are guild trials runs, by people who are having a bit of harmless fun. (I also recall a few NF runs from months ago where you were caking the doors.)

It should just be an action, like eating with /eat. Click the memento, character has a slice of cake and eats it. Or is drinking a smoking green beverage. It's faster and easier to reapply the buff and doesn't affect anyone else's gameplay.

There are support groups that can help with grieving. Usually, cake makes people feel better and helps the process, though ice cream tends to be more popular.

I would avoid the witches brew, as alcohol never helps in these cases, and can make things worse instead of better.

I think the bigger issue is when a raid group of 24 all walks inside the Shornhelm bank and cakes the door out. Or when some pranksters choose to cake the final dolmen pinion... or the chest. This issue described by the OP is not a dungeon and trial issue. It's a "people being a jerk" issue, regardless of where it's happening. Asking for it to be turned off in trials and dungeons is not the proper fix. At least in instanced areas, the joker can be removed if necessary. In the open world, there is no option.

Probably the best option would be to code in some sort of geometry check, so that when it's 'summoned', it's placed a certain distance away from anything else close to the player that can be interacted with.

Another idea could be that when there are multiple objects close to one another that can be used, instead of just the 'E' flyout text, you get something like a contextual menu listing what objects are in that location, so you can choose which one you're after.

I'm not saying those are easy fixes, because we (should!) all know better, but they're ideas that ZOS could look at to help alleviate the issue.

You get an interaction prompt for the cake only if you are grouped with that person. I'm not in-game to verify this at the moment, but I think the same applies to the brew as well.

I.e., the only way you can troll people with these things is if you're grouped with them.

On the whole, all this is a non-issue. As I mentioned earlier, I've never been cake-trolled in a random PUG--only in guild/friend groups where people who do the trolling (including, at one point, the thread's OP) are just having a bit of fun and who, for the most part, also know when to stop.

I wasn't aware of the grouping restriction so that helps... until I invite my grouped friends over to my new in game house next year and lock them all inside. Mwa ha ha.

I guess my followup question is, even if you can't make the cakes interactable, can you place enough of them on top of or in front of another interactable so that it can't be interacted with. Basically cover it up so you can't get your cursor on it like how that one tree in Hew's Bane messes with the wood node. Farmers know the one I'm talking about.

No, just leave it. It's a nice way to fool around with your friends while duing dungeons / trials. And if you have issues with people placing cakes during trial speedruns, then you might want to work on the discipline of your guild members and not take away fun from all the other players.

You keep mentioning me, but I don't see why, and yes I do see the harm in the stress it can cause people that in otherwise shouldn't be there, thus have stopped doing so, nor do I care much for the joke anyway
But you know jokes tend to spread and people pick up on disruptive behavior once it starts, once one does it more do it then a whole trial becomes a joke and leaders and others get stressed out by it.

Sounds like disruptive gameplay caused by an object that gets priory over interaction and sorry to Zenimax for saying it. But it needs to be fixed, has gone on for months and now another is being introduced ontop of it.

As suggested by someone in here, maybe make it only work for the person who uses it or disable interaction with it inside instanced areas?
