Come gather round, children,
It's high time ye learned
'Bout da heroes of Tamriel
And the devil named ZOS.
xD
Ok, I was reading about magsorcs problems (which is kind of sad, because I used to mock about Sorcs "problems" some months ago) and an idea came to me when I started to think about reworking staves.
One of the thinks I've read about in the forums last year (after TU) is about how magicka has 4 weapons and stamina has 4 weapons too, which seems a valid answer for most of us. That magicka is "mostly ranged" and for that rason is able to play "safer" and have less dmg than "melee weapons) (I disagree with that statement, because gap closers and bow change that approach a lot). Considering that at the begining there was no difference between stam and magicka weapons, IMHO that worked as a creative answer for a very "smart" developer trying to justify the cha-cha-changes done some... years? ago.
Thing is that up to know I accepted it as a valid answer, and even joined my voice to others (especially
@Joy_Division) when asking for 4 different staves lines focused on healing and the 3 elemental attacks (flame, frost and shock). Nevertheless there is something that makes me think the solution doesn't go that way. Yes, it is an improvement but not a solution.
Because I'm mainly a NB... to be honest more of a mageblade, and I like a lot to cloak, move fast as the wind, and take down my enemy using that wonderfull skill called "concealed weapon" (that stuns the enemy). Sometimes I cross... staves with a temp templar, who replies my attack using his or her staff like a spear once he is able to break CC. Other times I attack a DK, and he blocks with his beautifully made shield, and then he "slices" me with his "sword" and "hits" me with his "whip".
Wait a second... weren't magicka classes "mostly ranged"? xD
I know more or less how those fights go (most of the time I have to run away because I cannot kill them... too stronk, or I simply die trying), the temp templar shakes his spear (to be or not to be) and the mDK whip it.. into shape (trying to detect me, it's not too late). That's because they have little to no more moves (maybe a Jesus beam or a meteor to give the fight a different flavor). But nothing else.
Different story if I go against a stam whatever. First thing I see is what weapon he uses, and depending on that I have to modify the approach. If he uses a bow, I know that when he swaps he will have... a battleaxe.. or a maul... or a greatsword. Or maybe 2 daggers, 2 swords, 2 axes or 2 maces... or 1 axe and 1 sword, 1 axe 1 dagger, 1 axe 1 mace, 1 mace 1 sword, 1... or even a sword and a shield, o an axe and a shield or a mace and a shield o even a dagger and a shield (that's cool bro'). And for each weapon he has (except in the case of S/B) I have to be prepared. If he goes with 2 axes or a great axe, I know I need my HoTs ready, because of the DoTs (who uses an axe and no DoTs is losing great dps). If he goes with one maul or maces, I have to get my bubbles ready or he's going to break my stronk armor of silk. If he goes with a swords or a great sword, I need my burst heal as bursty as possible. Daggers are not common as they used to be (thank impen trait). And if I see a shield, then I know he's going to permablock, so better to go away. Then I have to worry about the class and their powers (if I do accept the fight).
See the point? While a stam class only worries if the mage uses
flame, shock or frost staff whatever, a magicka guy has to consider everything. Did I mention the armor?
Because Stam has 9 different options (if ZOS were creative enough, there should be 12 if each 1H weapon had a different effect with the shield), 9 different possibilities that in the case of the DW can be converted into other 12 different effects.
OK. that's only one passive making wonders, but how many passives do the same for destro staff? The only destro staff active skills making the differences are destro touch and WoE, and WoE, without a MS staff is crappy scrappy.
Ok, we have a LOT of magicka skill in class, but as explained above, many of them need to be in CQ range. Do I keep the staff while doing dmg? Why? Why my CW MUST be weaker than the SA of a 2H/DW stamblade? Why I cannot weave a whip with DW axes, trying to apply ANOTHER DoT (in the class that excels in DoTs)?
Why magicka is restricted to 3 weapons (because resto staff is not a weapon, but a "oh ***" button) 2 of which are crap?
Why stamina can combine and recombine its weapons?
Why ZOS? Why do you hate so much your own magicka based comunity?
