[VIDEO] ESO: One Rawl'kha

I've been thinking lately about how unequal the city layouts in ESO are. On the one side you have Rawl'kha, a compact city with everything a player needs within easy distance of the wayshrine. And on the other side, you have cities like Wayrest that are so huge and spread out.

I put together a video of all the things I'd love to change in ESO cities to bring them more to the same level of convenience as Rawl'kha. Let me know what you think.

Yeah, Rawl'Kha has a nice layout, and it has it all: easy access to stablemaster and outlaw's refuge.

Some good cities are often missing a few things. Like Mistral in Khenarthi's Roost is pretty decent; you can hit everything by going around in a circle, but no stablemaster.

Stormhold is decent, but the two nice things about it: good outlaw's refuge and stable master access, are things that Rawl'Kha does well, and Rawl'Kha has better placement of decon stations.

My favorite place for upgrading horses and doing nothing else is Stormhold, because the stable is 2 seconds away from the wayshrine.

My favorite place to go and sell stuff to trash vendors is Ebonheart, because 3 steps away from the wayshrine is a merchant.

On my main, because I have a maxed mount, I use Mistral as my main base.

My main concern will be the deficiency of lock boxes. I mean could you imagine 3 times many people farming lockboxes in a city.

I guess that some will start preferring slaughtering NPCs in the cities more. So be prepared for more mass murders.

Just remember that every instance in the game has a max capacity limit before another is created, so Rawl might have several instances going and not many will notice unless they have hovering arrows for friends.

I wish people would quit spreading such nonsense. That's not how it works.

If you've got 2 instances of AD in reapers march, 1 instance of DC in their cadwell silver: reapers march, and 1 instance of EP in their cadwell gold: reapers march - making 4 instances total... Then after 1Tamriel you will have 4 instances of reapers march with a mix of AD/DC/EP in each instance.

For chrissakes, the info on how they control zone population has been available for years. Years!

Not necessarily, but close. Alliance restrictions created artificial triggers for zone channel creation before, and they won't after 1T.

I'm also concerned specifically about rawlkha and the dualing arena because you could have close to the whole zone population congregating in one small space.

There are some really good suggestions in this video. Khajiit thinks the the top 3 home bases used are Rawl'kha, Shornhelm and Mournhold because most stuff is accessed so easily here.

Khajiit likes some cities the way they are though. It gives them charm.

Dueling isn't required to happen in that arena. You can have a duel in that arena, or the streets of rawl'ka, or in the middle of a skull/crossbones world boss, or the streets of wayrest, or in the middle of the undaunted enclave, or any other pve overland zone.

I understand that. It won't stop people from congregating at the arena, though, either for a guaranteed steady flow of challengers, or just to spectate.

I don't actually like Rawl'Kha that much. I prefer other cities in which to wander and rest my toons.

I also like that different cities have different layouts. I wouldn't want every city to have the exact same layout, even for convenience.

I like the different city layouts too, but I don't think having unique cities and convenient cities are mutually exclusive concepts.

If you watch the video, you'll see that I don't suggest changing any streets, buildings, walls, stairs or other permanent structures. I just talk about moving some things around and/or adding some things that are missing.

Velyn Harbor is laid out pretty conveniently and seems like a good location once you remove the bandits that inhabit the city initially.

@silvereyes, huge props to you for taking this initiative.

While I wouldn't complain about a massive overhaul, I also think a lot of good could be done with targeting a number of cities to get this treatment.

Most importantly, NEW zones should get convenient layouts that give newer/smaller guilds a chance to put their shingle out in a busy new place (or make existing guilds in high traffic towns consider a move, opening up a spot where they were).

If ZoS wants to see more rotation, this would be a great way to go about it, in addition to the "bidding on a city vs. a specific kiosk" suggestion.

Allowing the exploit of bid-spying for over a year, flips happening late night/early morning in NA, dropping maintenance on top of kiosk flips where the deciding factors on getting a spare kiosk are "can I take the day off?" and "how fast is my download speed" is ridiculous, causes bad blood between guilds and frustration with ZoS.

The sad thing is that all of the above has been suggested for over a year. Before *Orsinium* came out. I'd argue that the new zones are some of the worst layouts in the game. Instead of the new zones becoming the new gathering spot to trade/craft/bank/etc, people still go back to Rawl/Mournhold/etc for those things.

Personally, I'd love to take my guild store to new zones that are exciting and vibrant. The problem is, they aren't. And the decrease in sales for my members would be dramatic.

Part of the inspiration for the video came about specifically because of all the complaints I've seen from guilds sick of the crazy bid prices in Rawl'kha and Mournhold. I tried to get scientific about what brings foot traffic to a kiosk so that I could assign relative values to the different kiosks.

During the process, I realized just how many great cities there are in Tamriel that were missing only a few key elements. So much wasted potential.

I love Wayrest too. It's going to be especially popular next update with the dueling arena bringing in extra traffic. I just wish the bank, crafting, and stables were closer to the wayshrine.

    Good video.

Another problem with Riften is the stablemaster is all the way out the main gate, then back around the wall. Get the giant to knock out more of the wall and you could run 20 paces from the wayshrine into the stable. And the alchemist is an unbelievable pain, you have to jump down to a lower level, go inside, then go all the way around to get back up top. One stairway or a functional ladder would fix that.

Skywatch and Ebonheart also need an outlaw hideout, if they want to be real cities. Maybe just a single fence hiding in a bar's basement? The one good starter city is Daggerfall, since it's complete, even if badly spaced out.

Windhelm could be fixed by putting enchanting & alchemy tables in the Mage's guild, which is right behind the wayshrine, and put a woodworking station in each of the 2(!) stables or in a corner of the smithy.

In Craglorn, I used to go into the outlaw hideout for banking, because it was faster than running up to the actual bank. The loading screen boss has made that less practical.

Hew's Bane and Gold Coast both need to have wayshrines outside, because most of us are wanted criminals when we zone in. If I have a bounty, I can still get into the outlaw hideout without guards seeing me, while the main gates are hard to sneak through.
