whether im here for help/advice or just to read patch notes.
i never posted, why? because i found the many of the forums posts intimidating & patronising, and wanted nothing to do with this place
but when DB released and 5 of my 8 characters were locked in various maps i began posting seeking help out of pure desperation

now i have began to feel more comfortable posing here (although i still find them a bit elitist, toxic, unwelcoming and very very patronising); i even try to help out when i see someone asking for help; and everyone else is just typing L2P!
I have no fear over starting a new thread but only if i have searched to see if there is another post on the topic.
i will view older posts, because a lot of the information there IS still relevant & IS helpful, i dont believe ive ever comment on any of them; but i probably have cause im just a 3 star forum goer, whos too busy playing the game to post all day on a forum.

so i guess i should be apologising for not posting more often! and apologising for nay posts i have accidentally necro'd or i could go back to vMA its a far more welcoming environment there!

In case you believe so, no one is bashing you for not being active enough to have more than 3 stars. It's just all the necromancers are 3 stars or minus which makes it seem like someone has a lil trolling gig going on here with people that don't care if they get moderated or even banned is all.

How is thread necromancy trolling? And why does it matter? So what an old thread pops up and you might post on it before you realize it is ancient. The mods will close it and no big deal.

I mean what is the payout? "Trololololol, I made someone post on a year old thread that isn't relevent or accurate anymore! Trolololol, I R mAsterTRoll!

Seriously, if that person actually exist, let them have their sad little excuse for entertainment.

Not so much "person" as "people". Once or twice, no biggie we just move on. 50 times or so in the past month though? Nah, something's up.
Necroing threads has been a serious issue lately, and coincidentally every single "Necromancer" has 3 stars or less. Is someone out to troll or is this their way of saying "GIVE US NECROMANCY IN ESO!!"?

Regardless, this problem is going to continue if something is not done. Therefore, I propose all threads auto-lock after a certain amount of time has passed without a new comment.

If the threads were mine, it's OK. Otherwise, why bother?

    Exactly! Why bother indeed...

Once again. How is it an issue? The thread pops up, it gets closed and falls back to the depths of the forum. Who exactly is upset by this? Sure auto lock after six months if you want but this is seriously a non-issue.

I too still fail to see how it is a large issue. It's not like you are forced to even open the thread once it gets necro'd, so what does it matter. Pro tip: open a different, more recent thread if seeing new posts on an old thread bothers you.

You know, not every issue has to be "large". And small issues aren't irrelevant either. An issue is an issue, and this is an issue.

It can also lead to some weird threads. Someone necroed a Werewolf thread the other day with information that was accurate at the time (about the permanent stam regen), and the people who followed were going off on earlier posters for not knowing that you needed to have the ultimate slotted to get the stam regen... when that wasn't how the mechanics worked when the post was written.

Which is exactly why the recent string of necroing is an issue!

When that happens, all you gotta do is one (or both) of two things.

    1. Tell them why their necro post was invalid.

    2. Ignore them.

Not every single little issue that pops up needs some kind of fix, just correct them/ignore them and move on. Yeah it may be annoying, but so is most of daytime television, but I don't start a petition to shut it down, I just don't watch.

To be fair, ignoring it usually results in the necroed information getting presented as current elsewhere. And then you've got confused players claiming the game currently functions under the rules from 1.5 or whenever.

Even then, if it doesn't directly me then I couldn't care less, if other people want to be stupid and necro old threads with misinformation then fine. Unfortunate crap happens all the time, necro posts on a forum are hardly anything to get flustered about.

Oh and by the way, simply commenting doesn't bag you lots of points. You need to make comments people approve of, so really stars are a symbol of not only activity but also the fact you are not generally unwanted.

I think stars are more of just a time spent in the forums. If you really wanted to measure how well received you are be the fellow forum goers, you could check out your approval rating by adding up all of your reactions and dividing the total by the amount of posts. Now ratings, that is some serious business. I tell you what...

The majority of your points definitely come from Agrees, Awesomes, and Insightfuls. But there is merit in what you say, because you DO have to be active to get them lol

Ok so thanks to a summons that was no doubt meant to troll me I have learned the necromancy is happening in other forum sections too besides General Discussion. That means the frequency of this occuring could very well be higher than originally thought!

    for shame....
you are encouraging the very thing you decry....

    No, they encourage themselves.

that's called motivation these days... apparently it's a good thing.

i have been visiting the forums since i started playing the game at console launch,

whether im here for help/advice or just to read patch notes.
i never posted, why? because i found the many of the forums posts intimidating & patronising, and wanted nothing to do with this place
but when DB released and 5 of my 8 characters were locked in various maps i began posting seeking help out of pure desperation

now i have began to feel more comfortable posing here (although i still find them a bit elitist, toxic, unwelcoming and very very patronising); i even try to help out when i see someone asking for help; and everyone else is just typing L2P!

    1. WAY past that point. It's at the point where I just report them and mods come and lock the thread. My idea to auto-lock threads after a certain time period cuts that middle-man action out and saves both me AND the mods the trouble.

    2. Pointless.

Ask a question on the forum that's already been answered and receive a barrage of complaints about how you need to search for a thread already about this issue.

Search for your issue, find said thread, and post a question and receive a barrage of complaints that you necroed an old thread.

    Make up your effin mind.

It's pretty much do a search and make sure the results are not ancient.

nah... you're still jealous 'cos you can't find a reaaaaaaallllly old thread that is worth necroing.

    ...Not even worth a facepalm.

ahhh come on you have nothing better to do....

    Hmm, seems implausible.

Your case is honestly hard to properly gauge because you have a Developer comment in your stats and I have no clue if that's worth any points lol

That aside, you have over 12.5k points, are under 10k posts, and have 1.4k Insightfuls, 7.5k Agrees, and 3.1k Awesomes.
I have a bit over 6k points, have about 7.5k comments, under 600 Insightfuls, 3.8k Agrees, and 1.2k Awesomes.

Yeah I honestly think commenting alone doesn't really earn jack lol

The point of this thread was to mention to Zenimax we have a necro infestation and I proposed a way to fix it, that's all. Everything beyond that is discussion on the matter. Sure, not everyone cares and some may even condone it themselves, but this thread is not a waste because it served its purpose. Either way, not making this thread would guarantee nothing changes, and if nothing does indeed change then at least I tried.

Don't be so sure. I JUST made it yesterday, and it takes time for Zenimax to actually do anything with ideas.
