You missed the point. Necromancy would be alright, the problem is people with three stars or less, upstart spammers acting as though they belong here, posting messages and necroing our threads with impunity!!!
Necromancy should once again be noble pastime of the privileged with 5 stars or more, but what are mods doing about it? Nothing! They are so blase it is almost criminal.
I am calling out Elitism!
I may only be a three star, but just because I am not at the star cap doesn't mean I will contribute less to the forum. I am well practiced in posting in threads, after all, even though my star level is lower.
And even if I wasn't, how can those with less stars learn how to do well if you keep kicking them from your threads until they have maxed out stars? Everyone has to start somewhere.

I totally agree and even though my star count is at 3(and I unwelcome the very existence of a star count) I still find absolute no problems with necro'ing a thread, the search function exists for a purpose and why start a new thread with absolute the same content when you can go on with an ongoing(even if it has been buried in the NERF/LOVE + LAG/BORKED daily tsunami) discussion. You can also look into my posts and point me to where did I spam unintended or not contributive posts.
Zenimax is not turning star capped users into forum moderators and I unwelcome any attitude that might serve as a criticism against new users to participate on the forums. I have reported your OP because I believe it acts as a way to dismiss new threads and posts made by new users. Such elitism and discrimination are exactly what any forum doesn't need.
I do agree that the silly star count is absolutely irrelevant. In a few months my 3 year badge will also be irrelevant. The only thing that is would be the context of a statement. The psuedo elitism with a dash of entitlement because one has accrued more cheesements in the forum games content is absurd.
I've already set myself a reminder to do soWhat if someone necros this thread next year?

You find no problems with necroing a thread that is outdated and run its course and is therefore useless? Honestly makes it sound like you're one of them... And not just because of your star count but that does add to the suspicion...
Necroing a useless thread is spam, plain and simple.

To be fair this is a bit of a subjective issue. Some people consider a necro'd thread to be a week old, two weeks old, or a month old. I'm of the opinion that it really depends on the topic of the thread, and even then people can be ignorant of an issue - I don't hold ignorance against someone. In my view the issue is a bit more nuanced than either hardline view (I'm not suggesting you guys are necessarily hardline). I also don't think the OP meant harm by talking about the # of stars next to someone's name. High Star users are just people who are active in the discussion about the game, so would tend to care. Most of them are really cool helpful people, even if we disagree with one another at times.

Actually it's not really as irrelevant as one may think. Less stars means less activity which means they have less to lose from getting banned.

i will view older posts, because a lot of the information there IS still relevant & IS helpful, i dont believe ive ever comment on any of them; but i probably have cause im just a 3 star forum goer, whos too busy playing the game to post all day on a forum.
so i guess i should be apologising for not posting more often! and apologising for nay posts i have accidentally necro'd or i could go back to vMA its a far more welcoming environment there!

In case you believe so, no one is bashing you for not being active enough to have more than 3 stars. It's just all the necromancers are 3 stars or minus which makes it seem like someone has a lil trolling gig going on here with people that don't care if they get moderated or even banned is all.
UltimaJoe777 wrote: »Necroing threads has been a serious issue lately, and coincidentally every single "Necromancer" has 3 stars or less. Is someone out to troll or is this their way of saying "GIVE US NECROMANCY IN ESO!!"?
Regardless, this problem is going to continue if something is not done. Therefore, I propose all threads auto-lock after a certain amount of time has passed without a new comment.

How is thread necromancy trolling? And why does it matter? So what an old thread pops up and you might post on it before you realize it is ancient. The mods will close it and no big deal.

You know, not every issue has to be "large". And small issues aren't irrelevant either. An issue is an issue, and this is an issue.

How is thread necromancy trolling? And why does it matter? So what an old thread pops up and you might post on it before you realize it is ancient. The mods will close it and no big deal.
I mean what is the payout? "Trololololol, I made someone post on a year old thread that isn't relevent or accurate anymore! Trolololol, I R mAsterTRoll!
Seriously, if that person actually exist, let them have their sad little excuse for entertainment.
Not so much "person" as "people". Once or twice, no biggie we just move on. 50 times or so in the past month though? Regardless, this problem is going to continue if something is not done. Therefore, I propose all threads auto-lock after a certain amount of time has passed without a new comment.
If the threads were mine, it's OK. Otherwise, why bother?
Exactly! Why bother indeed...
Once again. How is it an issue? The thread pops up, it gets closed and falls back to the depths of the forum. Who exactly is upset by this? Sure auto lock after six months if you want but this is seriously a non-issue.
I too still fail to see how it is a large issue. It's not like you are forced to even open the thread once it gets necro'd, so what does it matter. Pro tip: open a different, more recent thread if seeing new posts on an old thread bothers you.
You know, not every issue has to be "large". And small issues aren't irrelevant either. An issue is an issue, and this is an issue.
It can also lead to some weird threads. Someone necroed a Werewolf thread the other day with information that was accurate at the time (about the permanent stam regen), and the people who followed were going off on earlier posters for not knowing that you needed to have the ultimate slotted to get the stam regen... when that wasn't how the mechanics worked when the post was written.

i never posted, why? because i found the many of the forums posts intimidating & patronising, and wanted nothing to do with this place
but when DB released and 5 of my 8 characters were locked in various maps i began posting seeking help out of pure desperation
now i have began to feel more comfortable posing here (although i still find them a bit elitist, toxic, unwelcoming and very very patronising); i even try to help out when i see someone asking for help; and everyone else is just typing L2P!
I have no fear over starting a new thread but only if i have searched to see if there is another post on the topic.
i will view older posts, because a lot of the information there IS still relevant & IS helpful, i dont believe ive ever comment on any of them; but i probably have cause im just a 3 star forum goer, whos too busy playing the game to post all day on a forum.
so i guess i should be apologising for not posting more often! and apologising for nay posts i have accidentally necro'd or i could go back to vMA its a far more welcoming environment there!
In case you believe so, no one is bashing you for not being active enough to have more than 3 stars. It's just all the necromancers are 3 stars or minus which makes it seem like someone has a lil trolling gig going on here with people that don't care if they get moderated or even banned is all.

Which is exactly why the recent string of necroing is an issue!

When that happens, all you gotta do is one (or both) of two things.
1. Tell them why their necro post was invalid.
2. Ignore them.
Not every single little issue that pops up needs some kind of fix, just correct them/ignore them and move on. Yeah it may be annoying, but so is most of daytime television, but I don't start a petition to shut it down, I just don't watch.

Search for your issue, find said thread, and post a question and receive a barrage of complaints that you necroed an old thread.
Make up your effin mind.
