After hearing the stories here it finally happened to our guild. Just noticed it tonight right before logging off for bed, player took over 200 items from the bank, and then thanked the Guild Master for it all in a message. At least they didn't have access to the Gold.

I had playfully joked in Guild chat about emptying the bank before and there were giggles, but someone actually doing it. And knowing there's nothing you can do, and there's nothing Zenimax will do.

sigh

And of course it was done by one of the new players that came in with the DLC wave.

Happened in a guild I'm in last week too. Blanket demotions for about a week. There should be some sort of cap of say 10 items a day built in to ranks or however the GM sees fit.

And this is why my friends you limit withdrawals from the guild bank to only those people you have spoken to personally and have developed a level of trust. Make them the top 2 or 3 ranks. Gold withdrawals should only be done by the guildmaster and no-one else.

Wen have a leveling system in our guild and it is about 3-4 months before a member will have access to the guild bank. This ensures that members who come in have a chance to become trusted before they have access.

I realise this is advice after the horse has bolted but maybe you should look to change your system.

While this is good advice, bank withdrawal permissions is really something Zeni should make more robust than it is. Options for limiting newbies to (EX:) only white gear or green and below, or only Provisioning mats, or a certain number of items/week would be useful for lots of people and if it isn't for you--just keep the limits off! At least they would be there to prevent bank theft.

I've had that happen to 3 different banks of different guilds. Even with trust standards, the temptation is always there without limits designed into the features.

Similarly, I'd like to see a feature that allows members to change their note, and only their note.

Or just keep the bank for Officers/guild masters only. If you're naive enough to open it up for everyone, you should also know the risk of this happening.

Well, ZOS should definitely do something about this.

If they know that player's username (reported by others) and have a proof of such robbery (I think they are registering such actions internally somehow?), they should highlight all of the chars of such person in red, visible to other players for a fixed period of time.

Such reprehensible actions deserve public condemnation and the proper punishment should deter from taking such actions.

Yeah, it's sad that it happened but it's time for stricter parameters on the members. Usually "Officers" in the guilds I am in are the only ones that can withdraw items. These people have been chosen very carefully and been with the guild a long time.

If there isn't a withdraw maximum limitation already, there should be so no single player can withdraw more than x items in a given day. This would then allow time for the parameters to be reset on all levels before it could happen again.

The best fix for this imo is to have different sections of the guild bank for recruits, members, veteran members etc. You could put in an item into the member section, and only members or higher ranked people in the guild would have access to it. That way you can give new people access to some provisioning and low level mats that aren't worth much but would help them level up and keep the worthy items for veteran members.
As of now Zeni can't be blamed for people robbing guild banks, just don't give everyone the right to withdraw items and tell them that they can ask you for something they want.

I think ZOS should have better features for guilds. I believe all members should have access to the bank, but then 1 person could come in and take everything. That just is not right.

One of my wise members told me in the beginning, "Pennies in and Pennies out". Only place items in the bank that you would be ok with sharing or losing.

As an officer/GM of many guilds this is something I've dealt with a few times and it is very frustrating.

I'd love to hear something about guild bank permissions being improved and just general guild management QOL changes in the pipeline.

How can you decide whom to trust? A player who is bent on thievery can join a guild, chat socially, participate in events, and then take whatever he can once GB restrictions have been lifted. And, because personality clashes happen, I've seen officers clean out a vault and leave, so restricting access to higher-ups is not foolproof either.

Unless I am mistaken, the only way to currently prevent theft in this game is to restrict access to everyone, i.e., the GM is the only one that can withdraw. Impractical, of course, and there's nothing to stop him from taking everything and closing up shop.

Personally, I like tabbed banks where items can be sorted by value and restrictions/withdrawal limits can be set. Even though that system can not prevent robberies, it can significantly reduce the loss when a theft does occur.

It happened to my main guild this summer (from which I'm an officer).

The thief was harassed by a lot of my guildmates after the act. I don't think he plays anymore, it's pitiful.

While I agree it is a low thing to do and I would not be against a blacklist with people that do this,
Technically this player did nothing wrong (from ZOS point of view). He was invited into a guild and given a rank in that guild which gave him access to the guild bank. He then used these permissions that the guild gave him.

Again, this may sound harsh, but he did not break any rules. Sure, it's a low thing to do and probably not the guilds intention. But it's not something ZOS should take action in.

It would be interesting if a permission could be set so an Officer validates the withdrawal before it happens.

It happened to a friend of mine's guild, possibly out of spite/vengeance.

He had previously kicked a member out of the guild and shortly after (about a week later), a large amount of items were taken from the guild bank.

You have to be careful when giving people power. For example, in my guild I do not allow anyone to withdraw anything (gold included), so if they want to get something - they have to come to me and ask me first. They are free to donate and deposit stuff though.

Same goes for officers when it comes to kicking people. They can mute whoever they want, but kicking is a different story and can only be done by the most trusted people. Far too many times have I given the officer rank to people I later regretted doing so, so that was my lesson. Power is limited, end of story.

This is why I keep access to the Guild Bank locked behind the most highest ranks in the Guild. If a member wants something. They have to go through an Officer with the permissions. And since the Officers are the top three tiers of the Guild, theyre the most trusted loyal members of the Guild.

As an Eve player i feel no sympathy. Out of 90 people in my corp only 5 to 10 people were ever given officer status which are literally the founders or really trustworthy people. There ere even bigger ones with hundreds of players and only promote like five. You gotta take this stuff serious. You just can't trust any random person. Iv'e been in guilds here were literally everyone gets promoted to use the bank, yeah as if im putting my stuff there i'd have to be mad.The first thing i'm doing is leaving.

See if this happened to me I don't think I would mind really. All I have in my guild bank is crafting mats. I have some armors for researching traits I mean probably 124 or so pieces of armor in there for that and prob 35+ weapons but most of them I already have researched. Sure I put in about 600 rubedo leather and some things like that but if I needed it I wouldn't have put it in there. I tossed in a few siege weps and 100 repair stones but again big whoop. So if my bank got cleaned out its nothing I would miss like kuda or any gold or purple mats.

I know it would suck a little because I would have to get items back eventually but in the end of the day it would be ok. This is what I tell guild mates don't put anything in there that if lost you wouldn't care about.

I would also like a permission to allow members to see what is in the bank, but not withdraw it. Then members can ask officers for specific items rather than asking if something is even there.

Guild bank access is always tricky. I would really like to be able to give withdraw access to everyone, but you can't do that in an established guild. Back when we were newer I gave access to everyone, because the most valuable stuff we had was standard siege equipment, Repora runes, and some purple Warlock pieces - No big deal, so the officers joked it was the "bank test". Now a theft would be devastating.

We started a secondary guild for just officers to keep the nicest bank items to gift as prizes and such, so that's a start... But I would really like a better option.

Indeed, he did not break any written rules like TOS or something - that's why there are no grounds to ban such a person.

But it is obvious that he turned out to be dishonest and untrustworthy, he violated some kind of an informal code of good conduct that applies not only to guilds in the game, but to society in general. That's why I opt for taking measures to punish such behaviour by exposing it to public condemnation, regardless of whether he should have had an access to the guild bank, or not.
