There's an old joke that MMORPG stands for Many Men Online Role Playing Girls.

I'm a guy that exclusively plays female characters. Not really sure why, except that's how I like to play; I think when it comes to games there need not be more reason than that for anything a player does.

To me it seems us Gamers secretly have the desire to see more Female Main Characters in our titles, so whenever we get a hold of one that gives us the option of character creation, we're more likely to make a Female. That, or we just want to stare at what we're sexually attracted to...

In Skyrim I created a Female Khajiit. In ESO my two characters are both Female Khajiit. (Khajiit's are awesome) In Elder Scrolls I wanted to imagine the experiences of a young female mage trying to adventure and survive on her own. In the same scenario, a guy character I feel would quickly fall into the same old "Put him in armor, give him a sword, and stab evil things". The only time I can recall where I didn't make a girl character was my Mass Effect playthrough, I chose a Male Shep, to represent myself, however I will admit openly that I felt a Male fit more appropriately into a Space Faring Military combat role, and being able to Romance Tali was the most beautiful thing ever.

Getting back to the point of this topic, being an online experience you are going to get "those" types of people, and really your only choices are to just ignore them and keep moving on, or at least try not to lure them. I've seen MANY characters that were Blond Bretons/Imperials/Nords in the more "revealing" costumes/armor, and had the Chest slider turned all the way to 11. You'd have to look a little hard to tell my Khajiit's were girls, I made them pretty average.

It did make me think about Khadjiits and Argonians. Actual cats have 6 or 8 teats and these are not on pronounced breasts. Reptiles don't even produce milk and cannot digest it. The reptile part is preserved in relation to Argonians hatching from eggs. However there isn't real cause for reptile breasts. I know they are humanised to help us relate to them. I know also it is a fantasy universe with its own rules. (One seeming to be the mandatory requirement for any playable species to sport certain anatomy).

I can somewhat understand attraction to human and mer races but it gets a bit wierd lusting for felines and lizards but even the game itself features some interspecies relationships.

I also wonder how matters may change as graphic fidelity increases. Would the problem get worse with photorealistic characters? Present generation graphics produce "plastic dolls" which makes it easier counciously or subconsciously remind ourselves are not real.

@carljokl that's one of the reasons I prefer how the beast races look in ESO rather than Skyrim, particularly Khajiit. Because they went for a more realistic look in the latter I think it resulted in them appearing more unsettling than anything, and are kind of in the "uncanny valley" spectrum. But due to the graphics in ESO being more cartoony they can get away with races having odd facial and bodily proportions that in real life would look s**t your pants terrifying.

Ah.. the old G.I.R.Ls (Guys In Real Life)

Even though more females play games these days, most female characters you see are still GIRLs. Especially the ones that look exactly how a guy thinks they "should" look.

GIRLs will dress like tomboys or pornstars (always one extreme or the other) and honest female players tend to be a little more subdued but while still retaining that 'hot/pretty' aspect. I'm sure there's exceptions to that though.

Anyways, if you dress the part, be prepared to play the part. Does not matter if it's fantasy, SCI-FI or heroic themes; these are RPGs afterall.

To each their own of course, but kudos - I guess? to the guys who take that shameless leap of faith and try and chat up every hawt female character they see, thinking its a pr0nstar or some geek grrl on the other side of the computer ready to get dirty. You are brave men indeed!

My healer is a female toon and standing in dashaan repairing after a dungeon run I once had a kid (I can only assume it was a kid based on my perception it was a prepubescent moron) PM me (console, so we have PSN messenger vice text chat, as this was prior to the intro of text) that he will send me a handful of tempering alloys if I sent him nude pics of myself. I wrote back that I was a dude and he was a moron and got back a reply about how it isn't nice to be a dude playing a female and tease others.

And, although not a personal experience, I recently had to chime in as a GM to a discussion in which a dude was harassing a female gamer in the guild. I came into the conversation late as he was calling her sensitive and laughing at her. Found out that during a trial he spent the entire time doing grinding emotes, tbag'n her, and opening trades offering her 69 gold. She put up with it for much longer than she should have before she finally dropped group, which was when he then went to guild chat calling her sensitive and lol'ing about it. Same girl also tells me that on at least one occasion a dude PSNed her d*** pics after hearing her in chat and confirming she was -gulp- a real girl.

For you dudes out there who think this stuff funny and acceptable behavior...go ahead and embrace your virginity well into your 40s. Last laugh is on you~

Glad the PC crowd doesn't seem to deal with this stuff as often. Guess it is more common on console considering the prevalence of younger gamers.

These were probably the most disturbing cases so far on this thread.

I suppose that, if in a guild, a gender is confirmed, it only gives wind in the back of some very cocky individuals to proceed and HARASS (this is nothing but harassment) girls. Especially if they play as female characters. I can't believe how lucky I am to be in a guild full of guys who are nothing but kind to me.. I also can't believe how they just ask random people for nudes? I understand you're a gamer, but tinder stuff should stay on tinder...

    I totally agree.

I think that thread highlights the more serious side of MMO’s. While all the things that happen o me I can laugh off as harmless fun, there is a point when it become more sinister and harassment. People like that should not be tolerated in game or guild and im sure ZEN has a system in place to deal with such incidents?

Yeah, it went from harmless things that can be laughed off to just pure harassment that makes you want to alt f4 the game rather than just stand there and bask in the attention you are given. I do think they deal with harassment but only if the victim actually speaks up. How else would they know?

I do have a female character that I troll in Cyrodiil with and often get lewd stares or even catcalled in major cities. I get gifts and money all the time. It's incredibly uncomfortable but I never turn down anything free. It just shows how incredibly disrepectful people can be. But then again, maybe I shouldnt be walking around town scantily clad with my cheeks hanging out.

A lot of things don't bother me, but the ignore button does come in handy if there is someone harassing you. It is real simple, just ignore them. I recently had to do that to a guild member.

Also, if you don't like guys hitting on you in game, I have the perfect solution:

vampire high elf ( tall and make her skinny ), after you have not fed for a few days guys will run from you.

If you want a friend, get a dog.

Speaking as a female gamer: thank you. It's always really encouraging to hear from guys who aren't prepared to tolerate the BS female gamers often have to put up with for no other reason than their gender. While I've not been on the receiving end of anything like what you described in this game, I have experienced it in other games and on other platforms.

It's frustrating, to say the least, to be harassed over your gender and made to feel unwelcome -- especially when you've been a gamer since the age of five (so 25 years in total, in my case). I honestly don't understand the thought process that goes on when a male gamer decides to harasses a female gamer. Is it a "territorial" sort of thing?

now being honest, and not funny.... Although I tend to prefer funny for it diversionary property's.

I get hassled alot, over the last few days I have gone another wave of abuse and I will ultimatley get my stuff done and go back into the background. Untill I'm up for another round. And I will just chat with my friends. i rarely make new friends because I am a little over it. I get down about the bs, I havn't made a new friend in months I have given up it's too much trouble weeding out the riff raff.

I did mara the nicest of the guys that I met in game he helped me lots he was a healer and I still play with him over a year on - it pays to be nice, mature, friendly and helpfully. I assure you of that, no matter your gender I was nice to him too. The last thing he ever thought is that he would make friends with real a girl in game, he had heard of there existence ( he played wow lol) but that I'd be there end game - the odds were slim, although I think he may have a different view now.

Today He said I need 40 druegh wax, I've got to farm, you do pledge so I skipped pledges and helped him and I gave him all the hide too. Has to be advantages of a Stormproof cp capped MNB wife's can farm nice and fast. I'd never have got so far had he not healed my rear end through so much content.

I got to say if it was not for finding him I would have probebly quit due to the enormous amount of bs I faced from males initially. I found a few others later but Would have given up, had he not restored my faith initially. I would never have met the others.I know there are some awesome guys and that many unfortunately just set a bad example for the rest of you. But even with knowing that, understand why we often reclude even endgame.

I have come across some guys who just seem to be rude and lacking respect in general. I think they would happily be rude to everyone including other guys. It annoyed me seeing a guy going around Daggerfall forge trying to sell his stuff. I heard him call someone a b#@$* just for not wanting to trade with him. His general lack of manners irritated me but that especially. I wanted to tell him off but it seemed he was getting grief from others anyway. His being so insulting just for refusing to trade was totally uncalled for.

On another note I need someone to compliment my characters hair. A good one might be:

"Your hair is divine what is your secret?"
Then I can finally use the pun:
    "It's Auri-El....because i'm worth it!"

I think apart of it is that its something different. A big reason gamers pick up games every year and try new ones out is because we seek a new experience we might not get in our everyday lives. It might seem weird but playing as the opposite sex kind of fulfills this to some extent.
