Your analogies are not remotely comparable. You're comparing the main purchase on the one hand with a trivial extra on the other hand.
Let's just take the motorcycle. A better analogy is that you've bought a motorcycle and go into the shop some time later. There are some fancy stick-on stripes that you can put on the bike. They're completely unnecessary and purely cosmetic, they don't affect the motorcycle's performance or your enjoyment of the ride one iota, but they look neat. They used to be available to buy on a limited time offer, but you bought the motorcycle too late to get them. The shopkeeper tells you not to worry, they're now going to be available again on a random chance basis if you buy their in-store lottery ticket. It's entirely your choice whether to buy a ticket or not, and you may or may not consider it worth a punt.
The motorcycle is the main item, equivalent to buying the game. The fancy stick-on stripes are the equivalent of a mount or costume in the game, neat but wholly inessential to riding the bike/playing the game. Making out that the main purchase of the motorcycle is equivalent to a non-essential cosmetic or convenience item in the game is absurd.

I remade the poll for people to express these thoughts and opinions. https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/comment/3294705#Comment_3294705

Of course, this one doesn't show unanimous opposition to the idea. This one actually makes it look like people will spend money on this crap. Of course this one gets to stay open.

Damn...for real. Are people really this outraged?

Yeah. I lived through these things getting introduced in a lot of MMOs I really enjoyed. I have no desire to watch the whole process again.

Hello everyone,
This post is to inform you that we've felt it necessary to close this thread. The reason being that there is currently a more active thread on the topic here. If you would like to voice your opinion on the matter, please feel free to do so there, as it will be far easier to track everyone's opinion on one thread.
Many thanks!

In fairness to the OP, it isn't an invalid poll, nor is it skewed. It's simply a poll of those who intend to use the lockboxes so that it doesn't apply to those who don't intend to use them. Your option would be covered by a different poll asking if you would ever use lockboxes and if so how many you'd be willing to buy to get what you wanted. This is not that poll although you're free to make your own of course.
