It looks like more people replied with "0" than actually voted in this poll. But polls don't mean a whole lot. We'll all see what happens when this mess goes live and people really really want what can only be found in the box. Sad part is for every long time player who leaves over this there will be a new player who accepts or even likes this sort of thing and will spend more money.
Happy All the Holidays To You and Yours!

Your analogies are not remotely comparable. You're comparing the main purchase on the one hand with a trivial extra on the other hand.

Let's just take the motorcycle. A better analogy is that you've bought a motorcycle and go into the shop some time later. There are some fancy stick-on stripes that you can put on the bike. They're completely unnecessary and purely cosmetic, they don't affect the motorcycle's performance or your enjoyment of the ride one iota, but they look neat. They used to be available to buy on a limited time offer, but you bought the motorcycle too late to get them. The shopkeeper tells you not to worry, they're now going to be available again on a random chance basis if you buy their in-store lottery ticket. It's entirely your choice whether to buy a ticket or not, and you may or may not consider it worth a punt.

The motorcycle is the main item, equivalent to buying the game. The fancy stick-on stripes are the equivalent of a mount or costume in the game, neat but wholly inessential to riding the bike/playing the game. Making out that the main purchase of the motorcycle is equivalent to a non-essential cosmetic or convenience item in the game is absurd.

Nope you're wrong. You may already have quite a few motorcycles in your collection, but you want this new one that looks so good. You can't buy it, you have to spend tons to gamble for it, and you'll probably get tons of crap you don't want instead of the bike. Not too bad if you're rich as hell but let's say you're like the 99% and don't want to blow your savings like that. You have enough for the bike but can't spend 4x - 10x what it costs.

The mount in the box is the main purchase, it's the whole reason for the box in the first place. The motorcycle isn't the game itself (wtf?), it's the mount you want - and won't get because the odds will be 1% or less. You didn't already buy that mount in the box, you have to gamble for it.

If your analogy was for skins for our existing mounts then yes you'd be correct, but I also wouldn't have made my analogy in the first place.

I'm telling you right now these gambling boxes will have a very small chance at dropping what we want and a very large chance of dropping crap like crown potions. There may be a costume here and there, maybe a racial motif, but not what we really want. That's the whole point of gambling boxes.

How about the most obvious analogy of all: carnival/boardwalk games. They may have an ipad or TV as the grand prize, but you know you aren't winning it without spending a ton spinning that wheel unless the RNGenie granted you a wish. I never, ever play those games when I'm on the boardwalk, but I do expect them to be there. I do not expect them, or welcome them, in my MMORPG. Keep that crap out of here.

If I had 400 crowns left after getting a DLC and the hairstyle/accessories I want, I might get one, considering this game's RNG, I'd always just get health potions and soul gems from the boxes.

OP must be a Zeni spy trying to figure out if players will actually buy these lock boxes since they neglected to ask us if we wanted them in the first place.

The fail is strong with this thread.

Ha, I just read Zeni's reason for closing the other thread, they can say goodbye to the chance of me ever going back to the game and subbing if they keep going down this road.

Unless there's a Rainbow Unicorn mount. Then I'd spend all of my life savings, cash in my 401k and Roth IRA and be broke just to ride in style.

Now you're being silly. You can just borrow against your 401K instead of cashing it in.

Yeah. I lived through these things getting introduced in a lot of MMOs I really enjoyed. I have no desire to watch the whole process again.

    Hello everyone,

This post is to inform you that we've felt it necessary to close this thread. The reason being that there is currently a more active thread on the topic here. If you would like to voice your opinion on the matter, please feel free to do so there, as it will be far easier to track everyone's opinion on one thread.

    Many thanks!

    Here's the thread closing quote^

Seems it might be a good time to open a poll with ZERO in it, and make it he most active thread...to see how deep the hypocrisy runs.

Yeah we are, I already unsubbed a good while ago for other reasons, but this sure as hell isn't any incentive to come back.

Zeni didn't ask if we wanted this, and so they apparently plan to just silence the threads that go against it, like they just did. All they are doing now is cash grabbing.

No option for zero, poll is invalid.

In fairness to the OP, it isn't an invalid poll, nor is it skewed. It's simply a poll of those who intend to use the lockboxes so that it doesn't apply to those who don't intend to use them. Your option would be covered by a different poll asking if you would ever use lockboxes and if so how many you'd be willing to buy to get what you wanted. This is not that poll although you're free to make your own of course.

In all fairness to the readers, his title does not reflect that intent. He is clearing asking the whole community if they would consider buying before giving up. Maybe he should change his title to reflect he only wants those that have decided to purchase.

    Zero.

And I've been buying crowns on top of my ESO+ since they implemented the crown store. I do it because the cosmetics, mounts and pets add a layer of fun to the game. But I also do it to support this game that I love.

The data-mined mounts look cool, and if they were offered in the crown store like previous mounts, I would buy them, but as they said in the announcement posted on the website today, "Crates will have different themes throughout the year, giving you the chance to obtain new, extremely rare items." So it's obvious that some of these themed mounts, if not all of them, are going to be implemented strictly in the crates, and we won't be given the chance to purchase them outright.

So now instead of paying 4000 crowns for a mount, I can pay for the chance at getting the mount. So the players like myself who are interested in the cosmetics and have been buying the cosmetics and financially supporting the game, are given "the chance" to spend even more money to get the cosmetics we want--excuse me- spend even more money for "the chance" to get the "extremely rare" cosmetics we want.

This crate system is not adding fun to the game.

They're trying to bilk the loyal player base.

    Please, ZOS, reconsider.

Even Sheogorath wouldn't try to pull this kind of sleazy nonsense.
