Just bought Maelstrom Arena, any tips to keep me sane?

Title says it all, any tips will help :)

Edit: Took me two days to get to stage 9. I am currently stuck on the final round because I can't survive the upper platform. For some reason, I take a constant DoT and can't out heal it. It's not the fireballs that come down, and I always dodge the bosses attack.

Damage, damage, damage. Build for it.

Use defensive skills as your defense, but your build needs to be damage focused or you will eventually hit an area of the arena that will overwhelm you because you are not killing fast enough.

I was stuck on arena 9 for 2 days until I bumped my build up several thousand magicka and several hundred spell power, sacrificing health and resistance in the process. The difference was huge. Could kill things that needed to be killed quick and avoid the "you took to long and now you are dead" mechanics.

With that being said, you will still die a lot until you learn to avoid all the big hitting attacks in the arena.

Best way to keep yourself sane is to stay away from vet mode.

But if you're up for the challenge, don't spend all day in vMA. You'll just get really frustrated at yourself (even if you're a good player, you have to adjust to the arena) as you die over and over. On your first few clears, limit the time to spend in vMA to an hour or two at a time. Spend some time on an alt, or take a short break from the game, then return and continue vMA. It'll keep your head clear and reduce the stress.

Your 1st few clears will be brutal and take several hours. But vMA gets easier and easier with each successive run.

Try normal with no guides unless you get really stuck on a mechanic (stage 6 horvers etc). After a couple normal clears you can go into vet around CP400 to be safe and save yourself a lot of frustration.

Once you're ready for vet, it will help a lot to have gold cookie cutter set equipment and weapons- ie julianos, willpower, torugs pact, TBS, etc. Unlock Meteor and/or Dawns Wrath. Get undaunted mettle passive. Bring hundreds of tri pots, speed potions and plenty of food (purple food for last boss, blue for the rest).

These things should make your run less frustrating, although you'll still die hundreds and hundreds of times. Keep at it and take breaks for days at a time if needed. Good luck!

There is a post on here from a very good player called Joy Division. There is videos of each level and strategies for them. I would recommend you do the research before hand and don't go in blind

Joy Divisions walkthrough is vital to newcomers in my opinion.

That being said, one tip that I never saw on there (I haven't looked since feb when I beat it myself) don't use Soul Gems, just wayshrine when you die. It's the same amount of time as respawning and waiting to de-ghost.

100% this. Do two or three stages at a time and take a break, if you keep getting killed over and over again it's going to irritate you to a point that you stop learning from your mistakes. I would argue that attitude is the most important thing in the arena as you can overcome just about everything except stage five with just patience.

Alchohol helps. A LOT! Don't drink whenever you die though, otherwise you'll end up in hospital in no time. Take a shot each time you clear a round. Do 1 stage per day, otherwise, like I said, you'll end up in hospital not only because of all that whisky. Also your keyboard/desk/screen/controller/TV might suffer if you do more than 1 stage per day.
    Good luck.

    For normal....just balance yourself meaning

Spend a good amount of time doing normal runs.

    -have personal heals
    -ranged dps
    -mele range dps
    -a stun or knock back
-a gap closer or speed boost
    -purple food
    -crafted pots

Be open to changing skills and gear around on each level as one size does not fit all

    Run.
    Run before it's too late.

Run before your sanity is evaporated like an ant subjected to sulphuric acid.

Also, don't be afraid to use the buffs found around the stages.
Also, don't be afraid to walk out of there and never look back.

    • Watch a ton of videos of people running through on your specific build/read guides (I recommend running on a magicka nb)
    • Learn the mechanics to avoid one-shots/understand that sometimes luck is not in your favour, and you will die a ton in the arena.
    • Don't try to be a hero and not use sigils/practice for a high-score run. Focus on just making it through.
    • Stop and take breaks frequently if/when you feel the frustration building up.
    • Damage, damage, damage (while healing). You just aren't going to make it if you run in there on a pure tank/healer.
    • Expect crap rewards so you don't feel intense disappointment when the inevitable charged weapons drop.
    • Don't give up! Everyone can do this with a bit of determination and a bunch of practice!
