Is Animation Cancelling Considered Cheating or Exploiting? Are the consequences the same? If At All?

Weaving =/= Canceling. Weaving with light/heavy attacks is not the same as animation canceling (tapping block) in between for instance 3 executioners and allowing them to trigger and land in less than half the time.

this is still an issue? i dont see how it can be. animation canceling is in the game and it is there for everyone to use. whether it was intended or not doesnt change the fact that it is there. ac is scrubby? nah scrubby is more like jesus beaming people at full health.

A lot of these arguments come down to personal preference. AC isn't inherently good or bad, nor is it more skillful than combat systems designed without it -- all games have things its players consider skillful, whether there is cancelling or not.

AC does provide a mechanic that requires dexterity and practice to master. This is a key feature in an action-oriented game. However, I argue that the same can be provided in a more ergonomic and intuitive way -- it is a recipe for a repetitive strain injury and there is no logic in blocking momentarily to increase attack rate.

Like so many other areas of ESO, I do not believe the combat system was finished before the game was pushed out of the door. I think this game could be 100x better if ZOS had another year to finish it.

I said earlier macros in a 5 button game is scrubby not the animation weaving . It's already so easy enough to do and only 5 keys to worry about , it's not that much skill . So needing to automate that to me is scrubish . But then again some people think bong scrapping is a skill too so whatever with hippies ..

Why does this keep coming up? Unless I missed an update, zenimax has explicitly stated that animation cancelling is prt of the game.

By same logic RD complaints should stop

I respect your opinion. However, I disagree with your logic. So, animation canceling is a skill based aspect of the game. It requires skill/practice. You said that it's not fair, but if one person has not spent time to master a certain aspect of the game, while the opponent has, that opponent should have the upper hand. It's like me saying someone who has played longer than me and more skilled than me has an unfair advantage. It's not an unfair advantage.

And I respect yours. However, I do not see AC as "skillful". I see it as a pointless action that devolves into a spam-fest. It is a rhythmic movement thing that I think appeals to certain people- and as a piano player I can kinda understand that. But it takes away from a situational awareness for the spammer and the spammed. I've also felt it favors people with better latency and FR. All just my own personal thoughts on it as an old school gamer who is probably stuck in the past. As a musician and someone with good internet I probably could master it myself. Perhaps I'm just not hyper competitive enough to do so and to each his own. And no, Kena I am not looking to 1vX on this topic. It's probably one as many have said that's been beaten to death.

Spam-fest? The game is a spam fest regardless. Chances are you are not dieing because of animation canceling.. its bad bad bad play in every aspect. build/skill/positioning etc.

Yeah this game is a spamfest! lol. Probably why every now and then I switch to FO....V.A.T.S is a nice submersive combat mode and one I really enjoy. :)

I dont think you have to be hyper competitive to be able to weave in a light/heavy attack or bash. Its a really simple mechanic. But my suspicions are correct. I know a single player gamer when i see one. ;)

Proud single player gamer here. however, the large group play promise is what attracted me to ESO. I love the whole teamwork aspect, even if it's only a small team of 2 or 3 having fun together. And I think I'm not unique in that I find it highly annoying when I die instantly without seeing any combat or being afforded a decent opportunity to block.

But neither of those have anything to do with AC. Do you play without sound? You can literally tell the difference between every attack just by listening. Combat music plays before you even get hit by any ability allowing you to block an incoming attack from a ganker. If you're up against a certain class you can be blind and deaf and still know what skills they're going to use because this game only has 5 skill slots.

I really am not interested in debating this, especially with the likes of you. I've stated my opinion. I can see both sides, really, but tend to fall on the side of not being able to obscure combat in any way.

    "with the likes of you"

I think the whole problem with it is I wasn't even aware of it until recently. If the game taught you and told you about it like it was the norm then it would be cool. However it doesn't, therefore I disagree with it and it's making me consider leaving PVP.

The game shouldn't have to have hidden/esoteric commands to make you be better than the other player.

That's why i play heavy magplar, there almost 0 skill required due to lack of AC in battle.
How much skills needed to tap LA/Block/Bash/Roll Dodge between abilities?
Ok on consoles you may need skill to do Bash/Roll simply because it's not one button, on PC tap button between tapping buttons, sooo skilled.

I remember the forums when this was first really put out there as a 'thing'...and when candy bars cost a nickel. The bones of the dead horse have been pulverized.

My two cents…agree that AC it is a reality of the game. But with those defending its existence as more of a matter of PvP, we will just have to agree to disagree. I see it as denying opportunity for defense in a reactionary- and visually-based combat system structure. I’m so sure that’s persuaded more defenders to see the error of their ways and join the ‘AC is bad’ cause. :)

But to me and by no means am I attempting to de-rail the topic, AC is not top-tier ‘please fix/address’ for me. I believe other issues exacerbate the practice of AC [e.g. lag, broken sets, loading screens (had to sneak this in and what’s up with it recently?),…etc.]
