It's clearly been rushed (understatement of the year), but at least there's something now. What can I say? I went on PTS to try out the new stuff and for once in playing this game since beta, I actually am happy with my character's appearance.

Agreed. It should have been part of the dlc. Two dungeons and appearance change for, say, 2000'crowns is a fair price. Buy once and then us as often as you want for no additional cost. ESO tries to be a premium game but they are gong a bit too far down the free to play method of revenue for my liking.

As much as we complain, unfortunately enough people will pay it to keep Zos accountant happy.

It all depends on what you mean by a "fair price".

To you a DLC and unlimited character changes for 2000 seems fair.

To ZoS it certainly isn't because they know they can make loads more money at a much higher price (and none of this unlimited nonsense).

I've seen the term "naive" used a lot in this post. The real naivety is in the people who think that they should get what they want at the price that they want. The reality is that ZoS set the price. Either you still want it at that price, or you don't.

As ever, the choice is yours...

(And if it doesn't sell at that price then expect to see price reductions and creative offerings - buy two, get one free).

I agree, the value is not set by you or I, or even by ZOS. It is set at how much someone feels the feature is worth to them. To me, 1g would have been too much as this does not appeal to me so I would never have got it anyway. Just feels like a trend taking place in which people's loyalties are being taken advantage of. ZOS know people like to buy all the costumes and mounts and, having got all of them thus far, they don't want to miss out on new ones so it feels a bit off to me seeing how much the prices for these are going up by (and in the case of the hero costumes, how much the quality is declining)

I agree that this Style Parlor they've released is a farce.

Zenimax and Bethesda should be ashamed of what ZOS is doing with ESO. The Elder Scrolls, and it's fans, deserve better than the trite drivel of a game that ESO is becoming.

Wait until you get a load of what they have planned for Housing. All those hopes and dreams here in the forum... heh.

At least barbershop isn't dlc. Housing will be dlc for sure. Just like most dlc before now, it's already been made. They are just milking the revenue timeline.

As with the Style Parlor, it will be exactly what the executives and producers want, it will meet the needs of Marketing, fit within the small development budget it was given, and will look exactly like nothing that has been widely wished for or dreamed of in the forum. Par for the course.

Not that the Style Parlor is not serviceable, and not that it won't be used, even at the prices they charge, but like so many other things that they do, it could have been better if they had been interested in the game instead of the Crown Store. Well, at least for the players, but that is not really the studio priority with things like Style Parlor and Housing.

My thought is that they think that ESO is the Golden Goose right now and they are grabbing the eggs as fast as they can. They think, or know, that this Goose ain't gonna lay those eggs forever and don't want to miss even a single opportunity to get one.

My Altmer still doesn't have black hair.

Just to update the forums on this dire situation.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

The only thing that makes me doubt your last line is the fact that they are holding back SO MANY THINGS they ALREADY HAVE DONE from the crown store. Costumes, pets, mounts. Is their budget SO SMALL that they know if they release it all now they won't be making ANY new things from here on out to put in the store to maintain continuous revenue? If they'd put out ALL the costumes they currently have finished and ready to go, I'd drop a hundred bucks on crowns without batting an eyelash. Instead they keep only putting out the stuff I'm absolutely NOT interested in, adding to my frustration as a customer. Every time I see an NPC in an outfit I CAN'T GET I want to indulge in an act of violence against the people who are keeping it from me. Yeah, petty first world problem...but as a paying customer who WANTS to give ZOS my money....it still makes me really angry.

    Literally unplayable.

As with the Style Parlor, it will be exactly... *snip for brevity, but the whole post*

At this point, I'm wondering how much control the content creators or designers have over the direction of the game and how much marketing controls. There's definitely good ideas, and I assume every developer is not wringing their hands over how they can extort the player base. And I do recognize the need to monetize the product, because, well, you can't pay rent with good ideas. But at this point it feels like the direction of new/requested features in the game is becoming more and more shallow and half-hearted (and possibly half- something else...)

I sincerely hope that they start thinking about more than dollar signs in the near future. I really love this game, and I work in software development so I have a soft spot for the devs and how they can't fix everything/make every little thing perfect, but I'm starting to become frustrated with the lack of care as of late.

As an example, they're allegedly "not able" to tweak the loot tables for Update 11 or in the three months interim, but don't worry! It'll be there in Update 12! It smells a lot like they're doing it that way so they can advertise it as a selling point. It doesn't sit right with me.

Despite many seem to think, race change and other charges for major appearance changes are fairly the same as is the MMORPG standard.

But it really disgiust me still, that wishes for BASIC barber shop INSIDE THE GAME WORLD were completely ignored and greed took over (Read marketing).

For simply changing ones hairstyl, AKA using comb and scissors, wearing a tiara etc having a tattoo perphaps... i believe the price might be one of the most exprensive and most poorly designed "barber shop" of any MMO i have ever played, most have it with gold and even in SWTOR, it is tied to number of changes you do AND it is a system you use inside the game world, not a stupid menu.

Even the most cheesy pricing models of company Cryptic, they let everything exept race be changed with in game currency.

I would really like to hear some xplanation from person responsible @ZOS, why was the basic character customization made for greed and what they are going to do to fix the situation so the barber shop is, what Elder scrolls game deserves, meaning a shops in the Tamriel you visit and pay with gold to get some NPC use comb, scissors etc ti make small changes.

Current, coming prices are quite in par with name changes and major appearance/race changes in other games, these are not something one should be able to do in a whim, or just because one day, name or something looks bad. Higher price will heklp players keep their names they are known in ythe game and the race they selected.

They are only [snip] expensive for hair and adornment changes and extremely poorly implemented (No barber shops).

Name change is something people should be able to change on a whim because that is more profitable in the long run. so the price it's set at is foolish in every conceivable way.

as for Race changes: you would have a point if this game was more stable in balancing it's classes. it is however not.

Well, I would like to look the way I want to while I am stuck waiting for something to happen. In actual fact, game play issues don't affect everyone but appearance changes do. Some may not care but they still are affected so this is a big deal. What's more this is more of a slap in the face than game play issues because it is just a 'quality of life" sort of thing. We made our wishes known and were unequivocally rebuffed.

As for game play problems, we have no way to know what they are working on. In spite of cries to the contrary, not being fixed is not evidence of being ignored since there is also no way to know how embedded or intractable the problem is.

so let me get this right? you go to a barbers to GROW a beard...........

Well, you go to barbers to have a mage grow your beard past that "unfortunate" stage where

1-it's so itchy you cut it off out of sheer annoyance

2-your wife/partner/friend is so horrified by your messy process that they hold you down and shave you just to save their eyes.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

So it is more important to get a BARBERSHOP implemented, rather then the much needed Guild UI improvements, additions, and changes? What about player housing? Guild Halls? Any number of PvP improvements? How about fixing the LAG in Cyrodiil?

Really? Is this what my subscription now funds?

Color treatments, hair extensions, weaves, and perms for all! YAY!!!

Please tell me this isn't so....

Well, by holding stuff back, they hope to not kill the Goose from fatigue and over exertion. Seriously, as long as people think stuff is coming, they will stick around to see what is next. While they are here to check out this new stuff, they will spend Crowns and buy ESO Plus. By pacing themselves, the keep the whole thing alive longer.

I am not concerned about the slow pace that they release stuff in . I think that their near-term goals are far too shallow and do not really address the needs of the players effectively. This is likely due to "reality" tempering "dreams" in the business world they have to live in, but that does not make it OK. If anything, they should slow down, not increase, the pace, especially if slowing down will let them address player issues, ensure quality, and release something that is better than "good enough for now."

I would really love to see Housing released and have the chorus of "AWESOME" coming from the players drown out anything negative that might be said. I expect it to be more like Style Parlor, where the chorus of [snip] drowns out anyone who might say "AWESOME". For all we know, housing will be nothing more than a long loading screen and we will realize that it has been in the game for months, exclusive to the XBox.

I'm very disappointed by this. I really wish they would at least have options for a range of in-game coin costs, like hair only or tattoo only or the like. We could use more coin sinks in the game - I'm currently sitting on millions of coins just because I sell everything I get while questing since I have no bank space, but there is nothing in the game to spend it on. This just causes inflation and makes things harder for new players with no cash.

Also, I was really hoping that a barbershop would not take you back to the creation screen. The only reason I wanted a barbershop was because the templar I created does not look the same in the game as she did in the creation screen and I want her to look how she should have (I was more careful with the other characters but they don't look quite how I wanted either). I won't spend money on this if it is just going to take me back to the same problem.

This is the only MMO I have tried that doesn't give you a chance to edit your character after creation for a short period (say 24 hours, though most I tried gave a couple of days) because it never looks quite the same in game. For this reason they really should allow some form of minimal changes at least for in-game coin.

The appearance change screen uses a different backdrop and lighting than creation. Creation uses the Coldharbour prison environment which is dark, blue, and overall not really representative of how your character will be colored 95% of the time. The appearance change screen uses a far more natural lighting. It's something.
