I agree. If night was pitch black it would add A LOT to the depth of this game.
Make a cave per zone that is a scary, creepy, nightmare to enter.
@imnotanother , check out these threads revolving around this topic:

Great threads that were well put together.
I couldn't agree more.
I much rather things like this be implemented instead of all the vanity features.
Ugh... you and me BOTH @imnotanother . We don't have functional torches or immersive nights but you know what we ARE going to get? HATS! That just SCREAMS "Elder Scrolls", doesn't it?

I made this as a joke a while back....
In a couple years it might not be too far off.

They could use an version of the disguise mechanic for torches - carry the torch in your disguise slot, making stealth impossible (duh, you are carrying around a lighted torch to light your position for all to see) but getting dropped as soon as combat starts and you grab your weapons instead (just make it an automatic "torch on ground" effect that "casts" when the torch is dropped... and lasts a few minutes before fizzling out...), requiring you to grab a new torch from your inventory once combat ends...
That sort of thing.
