I agree. If night was pitch black it would add A LOT to the depth of this game.
Make a cave per zone that is a scary, creepy, nightmare to enter.

@imnotanother , check out these threads revolving around this topic:

    http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/155836/the-need-for-functional-torches/p1
    http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/170536/immersive-darkness-concept/p1

Great threads that were well put together.
    I couldn't agree more.

I much rather things like this be implemented instead of all the vanity features.

Ugh... you and me BOTH @imnotanother . We don't have functional torches or immersive nights but you know what we ARE going to get? HATS! That just SCREAMS "Elder Scrolls", doesn't it?

I made this as a joke a while back....

In a couple years it might not be too far off.
What ESO really needs is an Auction Horse.
    That's right... Horse.

Black Desert Online has true darkness and pitch black caves where you have to carry a lantern. This is one of the features I like about that game. It has TONS of features I absolutely hate... like RNG in quite literally every mechanic in the game which makes it unplayable imo.

But yeah, the darkness and torch concept is super fun.

I still think that torches or other light sources should be added, and half the dungeons "de-lighted" to make them needful...
They could use an version of the disguise mechanic for torches - carry the torch in your disguise slot, making stealth impossible (duh, you are carrying around a lighted torch to light your position for all to see) but getting dropped as soon as combat starts and you grab your weapons instead (just make it an automatic "torch on ground" effect that "casts" when the torch is dropped... and lasts a few minutes before fizzling out...), requiring you to grab a new torch from your inventory once combat ends...
    That sort of thing.

I think they should be an inventory item you can collect, trade, sell. Then you would quick slot them to use, give it a 25 minute timer but if you go in to combat or drop it, you will have to light a new torch.

    Or

Make it a melee weapon that equips an oil (like poisons) that burns for 25minutes. The timer will pause on weapon swap or unequipped

    >>>I would enjoy dungeon-crawling by torch-light, but it is a fairly trivial suggestion. The game isn't really built on survivalist mechanics, else we might have seen some stuff like the frostfall mods for skyrim implemented.

All I've ever wanted was another skill tree similar to Scout from SWG. Being able to craft our own bonfires/campsites for temporary bonuses in ESO would be amazing, and the woodworking tree would lend itself to that type of thing very well.
