I'm very skeptical of this plan. They need to go into deep detail soon on how this will work. As it stands it seems like character levels will be relatively meaningless as you and the world will just scale to each other. If I can start up an Ebonheart Pact character and go from the starting zone straight to Riften and slay monsters that's just downright stupid.

If you want to know how it will work, create a level 3 today and then go to Wrothgar. There you go.

My thoughts: this was one of the most requested, no, DEMANDED, features before and after launch. ZOS spent 2 years working on it to get it to where its paying customers wanted it.

Now the first few pages are littered with comments about how stupid ZOS is.

    Underwhelmed...
Especially given the absolute mess the game is at the moment...infinite loading screens, rezzing to a keep in PvP ending in drop from game or port to some random spot in last zone you were in, continuing issues with sound, etc, etc, etc...and no DLC information.

This is totally a good change. Should have been like this at launch. All of the three alliance zones should be one big zone (like cyrodiil), fully explorable at lvl1.

ZOS have mentioned "business intelligence" more than once over the years that I have been following this game. It has used to justify quite a few things in the past.

The problem with "big data" is that age old question ..... at which point does data become information? In other words how is the data turned into something useful. Example? Oh go on then ........

Not everything in this example is fact, it was my interpretation of statements made and I am not claiming any of it is actual fact.
So WGT got nerfed, big data played a part in that call being made. Big data said that X amount of people did not not finish the runs they started. Someone at ZOS made a target that said we want Y% of runs completed and because it currently is below that value it needs to be belted ..... hard ........... with thy stick of nerfydom.

So Big data provided fact, it says out of X runs Y fail to finish. What it does not say is why? Was it too hard? Was it too long? Was it not fun? Was the players dinner ready? Was the player offered sex and that was a much more attractive offer than "get out the red stupid" comments from guild mates?

    How is this relevant?

I have a feeling big data drove this change and I am not sure if the data has been successfully turned into information to enable sensible decisions on this one. For me, the jury is out and time will tell.
I do not envy this job at ZoS, where I think I would do a fantastic job at it I know it is not an easy one. I truely hope you made the right one Matt.

I don't fully understand why anybody would be upset about this. They used the large stage to announce a change to the game in hopes of bringing more players into the game. If you want a healthy game, you need players, and frankly I'm sure ESO is losing more players to games like fallout 4 and the likes then they are gaining.

They need to gain new players to be able to afford to keep the game running and have the staff continue to fix the crap that's broken and create new DLC. Every single player should be excited by this news, and if you don't like it and think it won't help, please leave. The community has enough negativity in it, you probably aren't helping, especially if you think ZOS trying to add new players is bad for the game.

I think you're going off on a tangent because the data in your comment could be based on group who had X amount of wipes or deaths before the group broke up rather than the example you made.

While I often do not agree with ZOS and their decisions or how they implement good decisions, I don't perceive they are dumb. Your comment suggests they don't know how to use data intelligently. I disagree there...I think their lack of playing the game with us on live servers as regular ppl, have negative impacts in their decision making.

Some do play tho and this can hurt more than it helps. Playing is just a way for me to tell my perspective but in the end, it's not due to stupidity or using data wrong. It seems to often boil down to devs wanting the game to work and be played like X....but players not following that path and causing the devs design to often be flawed.

Its an MMO. Im not surprised that the vast majority of people that might have asked for such a change to not be present anymore. Games like this have a high turn over. Even WoW with its large numbers saw people coming and going regularly. I dont think in the years since its launch Ive ever seen but a handful of people in my circles and on the internet speak of it other than as something they would play, quit, pick up and play again during expansions. Its just the nature of these things.

Id dont know how this change is going to impact retention though. I feel like its a great change for existing Guilds but I dont see people coming back for this alone and sticking around. Its still ALOT of content to play through on one singular character and its why many just grind to VR16/CP 160. Itll be interesting to see how this plays out for them. Apparently youll still have to choose an alliance and will be locked into that in Cyrodiil. So any concerns over populations moving fluidly in Cyrodiil will be a nonstarter.

Im willing to bet they arent actually upset over this. Its the forums so if its not something they can start some drama over itll die quickly. This is pretty big news and will likely pull some old timers back in. People are going to get their panties in a bunch over it just because its something thats going to be talked about.

The lack of concrete details on how it's going to work is what's bothering people. Right now it's implemented on a smaller scale with the DLC zones, now what's to stop me from finishing a starting zone and wandering to what used to be a level 40-50 zone and doing all of the story missions, completely skipping the majority of the story content up to that point? The quests are currently set up in sequential order, not like Skyrim where you can wander around and do them when you feel like it. One quest send you to the next zone and so on and so forth. This breaks that.

Wonder if this means switching between Cyrodiil alliances will become the new system. I highly doubt it.

This means Cyrodiil will become the PvE zone so many have wanted. Large scale Pvp is going to be removed and we will get the small scale stuff instead.

Not dissing, but data IS information. It doesnt become information,as it already is.
    In response to your example request,..;
"data is used in English both as a plural noun meaning “facts or pieces of information”
    Also this,from the Merriam-Webster Dictionary:
" facts or information used usually to calculate, analyze, or plan something
: information that is produced or stored by a computer."

Well yeah, I'm sure that's exactly how it will work because they are trying to draw in the Skyrim crowd. How many people actually paid attention to the story line? I, for one, did not care. I grinded most of my way through lvls, then sped ran through the story line as fast as I possibly could. It's an MMO, there's literally a thousand things better I could be doing with my game time then following a story line. If I wanted a story line to follow 100% of the way through I would go pick up whatever extremely boring, extremely linear Hack and Slash that came out recently and play that.

This is to make it so people of all levels, and completely regardless of story line completion, to be able to group up and run content together.

Say you have a new guild member, straight noob status, and you want to help them learn and discover the game you love. Now instead of creating a new toon, you can take your CP501 or whatever and go to the "noob" zone and teach them all of your infinite wisdom while actually fighting monsters that are almost a challenge, instead of one shoting everything ever.

Disappointed, nothing about the next dlc.
Why do they constantly fix what is not broken.

    So disappointing...

Ya know, everyone has been asking a long time for all that has been said by Matt above.
People whine that they dont listen,well,..
Finally they listen to what people have been wanting and all you guys can do is be disappointed.
Give me the reasons for your disappointment in what they are going to give us,please.
I cant see a single reason for disappointment, really.
What exactly that has been said by Matt are you disappointed in?

Sadly this is the age of entitlement and people can never be satisfied with anything. They always have to have more and more and can't just be happy with what they have.
