New to PvP - My experience as an Oceanic.

Greetings all.

I've just started in Cyrodiil for the first time, I mainly play PvP in MMO's so I figured it was about time after 2 years on ESO to give Cyrodiil a crack beginning with BWB. First day over and my conclusion - Lag makes it very hard to enjoy. In almost all fights I got involved in, whether it was in 10v10 skirmishes or 1on1 encounters, lag made it virtually unplayable.

Now I'm from Australia, Melbourne to be exact, so I realise that's going to be a problem when I'm running around with an average latency of 350-400. In saying that, I've also been playing games such as Guild Wars 2 for several years, a game with no Oceanic support whatsoever and even in the large scale PvP scenarios, have rarely had trouble fighting other players. For some reason ESO just really struggles to keep track of where other players are on my screen, teleporting and random instant deaths were rampant in my first day of playing.

I'm not too sure what the point of this thread is, just a little insight into my initial experience I suppose. But I can't help but wonder how many Oceanic players out there play ESO and have to deal with this. Will ZOS ever recognise our plight and offer us any hope of Oceanic support in the future? or am I doomed to suffer the constant lag spikes and suck it up because I'm not American?

Most likely doomed. There is no way there is enough of an oceanic presence in the game to warrant a seperate megaserver.

I think it can be tough to learn in, but alot of fights end up being roughly similar. Once you know whats going on and can anticipate whats going to come next, you can plan your moves in advance to counter it, keeping in mind that you need to do it a little early to account for delays.
It can suck at times, but it is not impossible to play in. The large scale fights can be a nightmare with all the extra lag, but its also an epic experience that I haven't yet found in a game with oceanic servers.

I play from South Korea in a PVP guild with 50% Australians. One of our players was in top 10 last Trueflame campaign. It's not impossible but playing at peak times usually sucks, and you might need to adjust your build to accommodate for the latency.

ZOS is milking this game in every corner of the world they can, even if its unplayable for them (300+ pings).

We have aussies on eu and I always wondered which server gave them better ping, I just assumed NA cos that's where most of them are. Trueflame EU between the hours of 00:00-09:00 GMT is almost completely lag free, meaning you would just have to deal with your base latency and not any added latency caused by playing at peak times. Admittedly there are less players to fight but still some, and the fights are fun. Not sure if the NA server has a similar low traffic period.

I play from Singapore, and my ping is usually 350-450 via standard connections. That being said, the use of a pingbooster like BattlePing helps immensely with latency issues. When BattlePing is active, my latency is round 225-300. Not the best ping, but playable with a bit of prediction of enemy player movements and actions.

The problem with Oceanic connections is that the packet routes are horribly unoptimised. Pingboosters correct that issue by routing your packets via a network of servers, ensuring that the packets arrive at their destination earlier.

Also, I highly recommend playing a ranged/stealth based high damage build. The faster you can end the fight, the less chance that your ping kills you. Every extra second in battle is another second to die via lag.

I thought there was a confirmed Japan server coming in just a few weeks?

OUCH, just read that it will not include character copy and will have ip-block to only Japan. RIP Oceanic server hype...

Honestly Oceanic crews are some of the most important pvpers when it comes to winning campaigns and keep things contested to prevent night/day capping.

I play from Singapore (280-400 ping) and the lag is real mad at times, but i've learnt how to deal with it by dealing most of my damage from ranged and only use melee to finish them off. For me, i'm playing on a mid 2013 macbook pro and i've had to turn my textures to low and subsampling to medium to somewhat be able to play well. Also, i play on non-cp so the performance is somewhat better than haddy or TF. If you're playing on a better rig than i am (which i'm pretty sure 90% of the eso pop does) you should be fine most of the time except for the standard zergfests, in which, everyone lags.

I also play from Melb, Aus but my ping is usually 250ms I would get onto your isp and make them do a line check, unless you have some issues with terrible routing or a congested exchange your ping should be 230-270 from melb to the Texas servers.
Albeit it does spike in Cyrodiil but so does everyones.

Playing from Japan on ps4. Ever since IC patch it's unplayable. I was really banking on the JPN server but it never happened

I'm just going to give up and come back later for battlegrounds and see what happens.

P2p server set-up would be great for small scale, instanced Pvp. But I doubt it'll ever happen.
