Yes i think it is a personally opinion from everyone how to spend and how much. I did not say supporting the game via crown shop is bad. It is my personally intention to support via the sub.

I decided to sub for the research bonus. It's pretty huge added up over 9 traits on all pieces.

As it turns out, subbing is nice anyway. It allows you to try before you buy any DLC. So subbing, just 4 months out of the year would be worthwhile imo.

And now with the addition of crafting bags, I will keep subbing full time just for that!

Depends on how you look at it. As on console we mite only play TESO. In that it is just like subs. But if a console user playes other online games through their console that require PSPlus or a Gold membership. Then it is the equivalent of F2P. Not on PC...

I have no problem subscribing to Netflix and similar services, or software that I use for work, but for some reason it seems rather strange to pay a subscription fee for a game. Not entirely sure why, maybe this is due to my lack of experience with MMOs.

ESO was the first game I subscribed to, and I have enjoyed the game since beta, so I didn't mind paying the monthly fee. When it launched on Steam, I even bought multiple copies of ESO to give away as Steam gifts. However, I was glad to hear the fee would become optional with Tamriel Unlimited, as I hoped this would result in more new players and larger population in Cyrodiil. Sort of wish it had been "buy to play" from launch, as we might have ended up with a larger community.

Been planning to buy some of the DLC later when I have a bit more time to play (and a new PC that can actually handle Imperial City). Definitely plan to spend crowns on additional character slots, race change, character appearance/name change, etc. If ESO goes on sale at a deep discount on Steam, I might also buy a few extra copies to give away.

I suppose if I end up subscribing again, it will probably be for the new crafting bags.

Here's my 2 cents or what ever the equivalent is in today's economy. Are you ready ?

I don't sub. right now... But when I do, it is so I can play the expansions and add-ons. In TESOs case. I would sub. just for the 1400 crowns. Because that amount is what we pay 14.99 anyway for, that makes all the other goodies free. Now I rather be able to afford buying the DLC instead so I owned it all the time and I'll get to it eventually. And if I was loaded I would just buy everything with crowns I buy with cash...

This is my MMO. I've had others, but they didn't have the same draw, the same appeal. I came to ESO, it's where I plan to play for a very long time, seems like a sub is the way to be.

I've been subbing for over a year to support the game. I love the Elder Scrolls universe and the graphics. I only unsubbed recently due to frustration regarding vMA drop rates.

I subbed since start of this game untill now. I like this game and want to support @ZOS with a regulary income, so they can better plan their resources.
    But where's it going?
Lag in PvP, problems here, DC's there, I mean...

For a long one people asked about the lag and DC's, but not much seems to be done about that, despite you subbing.

Unsure if I want to sub just for the sake of subbing.
Franlkly, I am sure I will not do that for just that reason.

So, from what I got thusfar, there's not really a reason to sub, correct?

Yes that are all the problems. But i do not know another game that have these problems too. Especially LAG in PvP. Say me another state of the art game, that have no LAGs with large scale PvP and is no asia grinder, because i hate asia grinders with their pay to win cash shops.

In my eyes ESO is the best case at the moment, so i want to stay ESO alive. The best i can do is to support the dev's with a regular monthly income. Income from cash shops are a bit fishy. You cannot plan into the future with that income.
Well, they'll be here even if you do not sub, heh.

Well, my play is mostly lag free with no crashes. New content keeps rolling. So my money seems to be more than earning its keep.

    Yeah, new but useless content?
What am I do do with that?
Splendid, more land, more houses, more trees...

    Reasons I sub:

    To pay developers.
To pay QA to test and make sure ESO stays a quality product.
To pay for datacenters and servers.
    To pay the electric bills.
To pay for all the administration that keeps the books, venders, and taxes paid.

All of this is required to keep ESO alive and healthy and all of this costs a lot of money every month. If we don't pay for it ESO will be mothballed and something I enjoy doing will no longer exist.

I could care less about the 10% more experience, crowns, etc. Although I do like the crafting bag thing they are adding.
    Playing since beta...

I pretty much match the OP's @STEVIL motivations except I'm a tad older and in the UK so for the Clinton years read the Major/Blair years.

I sub primarily to support the game, it's cheap entertainment compared to Netflix etc. The 10% XP is nice for me to make up for the tardy reflexes and the crafting bag will be super useful to free up bag space. The crowns are nice, they are just there and I don't have to think about buying any, I've spent some on a motif and bag space but still have 14k left from subbing. I don't buy fluff but respect those that do, it keeps the game going.

Subbing is just a nice thing to do, it shows my commitment to the game and hardly costs a fortune, 1/2 pint of proper beer a week at the 180 day sub price. Not going to break the bank.

...i am not a creature born of the "what i want should be free" generation that was born after a Clinton took the white house. I believe in a fundamental principle of reality that if i am getting something I want, something i enjoy, i SHOULD regard those providing it appropriately. its a core part of my being. I understand that when i do that, i encourage those providers to do more of what i want, to stay in business, etc. While i do have to make value-benefit decisions about what to invest my time and money, paying for what i enjoy as long as it is at a satisfactory price point is just "the way things work."

I know there are a lot of "free" things out there now too. I also know and believe what the head of google said (paraphrased) "If you aren't paying for a service, YOU (you info, your ad exposure) are the payment."

Could not have said it better myself.
Although I will be embarking upon only my 4th decade on earth just this year, I completely agree.

After all, money does not really exist. Money as an object is really just a representation of a value I am placing on goods or services. The VALUE exists. Therefore, I represent it with my contribution.

These are services performed by highly trained AND creative people. Services that I happen to value. Therefore, I pay for them. To be perfectly honest, I would probably pay twice what they are asking. I wonder how many younger people think they should be allowed to hang a DaVinci or place a Rodin in their homes for free.

Ultimately, I pay because I want more and more upgrades and content. And because I see no reason to purchase DLCs "permanently" when I know good and well that NO game is ever "permanent". So, since I like the perks AND a sub allows me DLC content, it's a no-brainer.
