Poison making is coming next patch

    I think lacing your weapons with poison would be pretty sick.

    Exactly:

    1. When do you apply the poison, before or during combat?
    2. Once applied, is it one hit, then you need to reapply it, or will it last some duration. What is that duration, a number of hits, or some amount of time (Buff Timer)
    3. Will poisons be the negative effect potions we have now (which would be fine) or are they new potions with new ingredients
    4. Does this mean Mushrooms will now have some value or will there be new reagents introduced to the game world (I vote mushrooms as they are already here)
    5. What will the counter be? There always has to be a way to counter an attack
    6. Is the poison applied to a weapon or thrown in the face of the enemy? Or Both?
    7. Will we get one of those Atomizer things to spray the poison if it is not weapon applied or thrown at the enemy?
    8. If it gets applied to a bow, will the posion get removed by the wind as it flies to target?

    Ok, the last two questions were kind of silly. But the first 6 would be nice to know. I can bet that for DB activities, there will be times we posion someone's food or drink, we did that in Oblivion IIRC. However that can't be the only way something like this would be used in the game.

    Can't wait to find out!

    Assumptions are deadly. But I can't imagine them being too different from current potion use. I never planned on using potions, but was looking forward to them anyway.

    Although, I did recently make a nightblade. So maybe I will use it.

    Lol. I didn't catch that meant poisons. I use potions when appropriate. I try not to rely on them exclusively. A bit pricey to pop one every 45 seconds.

    I was always under the impression that poison would be alchemy and potion related, just something harmful that you could use on your opponent. If it ends up being a weapon/skill attack proc, then it's just going to be another layer to burst, which would be bad.

    If it ends up being debuff related: ravage stam/magicka/health, as well as speed/armor/damage debuff/stun/etc, then the entire alchemy framework is already there to use.

    I hope the new poison system is PVE only. I'd love to see a well developed, balanced and properly implemented poison system in PVP.

    However, based on history, I would expect a poorly conceived implementation that does not take PVP dynamics into account.

    Furthermore, I don't want to see any new additions to PVP until what we already have has been fixed. It will only further muddy these dark, dingy waters.

    I wouldn't expect the new poisoning skill to affect PVP. None of the new thieves guild passives did.

    And I'm just fine with that.

    You forget that Poison-Making is under "Base Game Patch Features & Content". In order to the already implemented negative potions you can make with alchemy i think it will be an expansion of the current alchemy system.

    So there is a very chance that poisons will be usable in Cyrodiil.

    If it did effect PvP in any way, the poisoning skill would;
    A) Be the next must have skill for PvPers,
    B ) Have a whole lot of PvPers venting about having to buy and complete PvE content in order to play PvP competively.

    Only way i can imagine balancing this is with poisons being on the same CD as potions for PvP.
    Choose one: Debuff Enemy (ravage health would have to be reworked obviously) or buff self.
