Feedback for 64-bit Client

    Background:
My system ran the game very nicely up until the IC/Justice System. Afterwards, I began having serious problems with sudden FPS drops and high ping. I filed a ticket and followed many of the suggestions in the PC Technical Support threads to no avail. These problems occurred on an older computer and a newer one.

The FPS/ping problems carried over to the 64-bit client once it was introduced, with the added problem of frequent crashes to desktop/ESO crash report screen in the 64-bit client only.

For me, this patch has made a vast improvement with the sudden FPS drops and high ping - my biggest issue. I still find certain locations that seem to trigger FPS drops, such as between the entrance in the Morkul Clan Longhouse and the daily quest-giver, or sometimes near water or in rain, even though Water Reflection is set to Medium. Also, I sometimes have to increase the ESO process priority to Real Time in the Task Manager when lags start to occur. Regarding the specific feedback requested:

Are you still running into issues with the audio? If so, what specifically are you having trouble with? This could include incorrect sounds, static, or missing audio.
There has been improvement in the sound for me. I still get occasional missing sounds, incorrect sounds, delayed sounds and hissing, but much less since this patch.

Are you still seeing any pink or missing textures? If so, how often?

I have not seen any pink or missing textures since this patch was introduced.

Are you experiencing any crashes? If so, what were you doing when you crashed? Did you receive any specific error message?

I have not had any crashes with this patch. Prior to this patch, the 64-bit client would crash regularly, so I used the 32-bit client instead.

Are you running the game with any addons? If so, which ones?

What I got from another thread their problem is, that they cannot reproduce most of those issues, what makes it hard to fix them, because they cannot find out what is causing it and have to rely on educated guesses. They really try, but it is hard without to be able to reproduce most of the issues on their machines.

I've not seen any difference whatsoever running the 32 vs the 64.

    Actually, I have.

On 64-bit, the primary problem that I see that they are asking about is audio (as I documented a couple of days ago). I see no pink textures and have no crashing. (EDIT: I also get "out of memory" issues on 64-bit, but only when my normal add-ons are loaded)

On 32-bit, I get all of the things that they are asking about. Audio problems (out of context sounds and volume issues), texture problems (pink and LOD texture problems) and crashing.

As I think they intend to switch to the 64-bit in Dark Brotherhood, and that is what I want to do, as well, I am not that concerned about the 32-bit.

(EDIT: I also get "out of memory" issues on 64-bit, but only when my normal add-ons are

Go to your Documents folder>Elder Scrolls Online>Live>Open UserSettings.txt file.

Scroll about halfway down and look for this > SET LuaMemoryLimitMB "64"

Change the number in the " " only to one of the following, 128 or 256 or even 512 depending how much system RAM you have.

Numbers have to be one of the above as they go in multiples only like normal RAM does in sizes.

Save and close it, dont do it while running the game, game must be closed.

I changed my number to 512 (I have plenty of RAM to spare) and have had no issues since with out of memory errors when using addons.

Are you still running into issues with the audio?
If so, what specifically are you having trouble with? This could include incorrect sounds, static, or missing audio.

Only problems I am still having is with audio. I frequently notice the "Loud flowing water" effect that I'm sure other people have described. Last heard it when riding my mount across a bridge near Orsinium.

Bridge does at least make some sense, I am hearing plank and ship sounds when not even being near a harbor or water. Really out of place sounds.

I noticed that static hiss occur a lot when I have another window open on my other monitor and Im watching a movie or something while playing ESO on my main screen.

I close my other window and have no hiss. I open it up and hiss starts again.

Wonder if the 64bit client is conflicting with other programs when using the sound hardware.

In the most recent PC/Mac incremental patch (2.3.9), we implemented a number of fixes for the 64-bit client. If you have a machine that meets the requirements, we’d love to get some feedback from you on how the client is performing. Once you manually launch the 64-bit client and play the game for a bit, please answer the following questions:
    1. Are you still running into issues with the audio?
      • If so, what specifically are you having trouble with? This could include incorrect sounds, static, or missing audio.
    2. Are you still seeing any pink or missing textures?
      • If so, how often?
    3. Are you experiencing any crashes?
      • If so, what were you doing when you crashed? Did you receive any specific error message?
    4. Are you running the game with any addons?
      • If so, which ones?
      • Note that out-of-date addons may cause you to run into issues, so please make sure they are up to date or temporarily disable them.
    Thanks for your help!

    1. Audio:
I have not had audio issues as frequently since the patch, but they do still occur. In the Durzog Kennel Delve in Wrothgar I have had audio issues on 3 different characters. There has been a constant "tic tic tic" sound (reminded me of the sound Anguish root skill makes when you break are first rooted). On one character I had a constant sound that was as if my Dwemer Sphere minipet was "standing up" over and over and over the entire time).
Other then that particular Delve I have had very few audio issues since the patch. The ones I have had have been static or white noise sounding.

    2. Textures:
I have seen pink textures in Cyrodil (Azura's Star NA) on 2 different characters. I have not seen any pink/missing textures in PVE since the patch.

    3. Crashes:
I have not had any crashes since the patch. Overall the 64 bit client has been infinitely more stable since the TG DLC. Prior to that I either crashed or was kicked to login screen (usually with no error message) at least 1x per hour, sometimes more..... ever since the IC DLC. :(

    4. Addons:
I would not play this game without at least a dozen Addons. I use a bunch of them and I have not tested the game without them since the latest patch.
Semi retired from the trading aspects of the game.

Played for hours today on my desktop. No issues whatsoever. On my laptop, not so much. I experienced severe frame loss. It was unplayable.

Both machines are Windows 10, with nVidia gtx980 and gtx970 respectively.

Edit: I just experienced the clicking audio on the PC. It started when I entered the bank at Rawl'Kha, and then stopped when I exited the bank. It started again on another toon at Elden Root.

What is a bit strange and where I do not have a clue what could cause this is ... when I reboot my system and start the client then, I do not run into issues at all. That is just when I have done something else before that there is a chance, that I will run into issues. But like I said before, there are just 2 possible states for a gaming session - either I have lots of issues or none at all.

I still have frequent audio issues in all areas. It seems like occasionally the wrong audio clip plays in reaction to some action and on occasion I get a random sound clip from whatever zone I'm in on a loop.

Pink textures are very infrequent now. Maybe once per play session I'll see something.

I tried it again this past weekend.

There were no pink textures anywhere in sight, not even the cute butterflies.

Definitely still having sound issues, both in the wilderness and in towns. Had the static sound pop up randomly. In town in the bank in Wrothgar had the repeated sounds of some creature moving around or something - it was weird and hard to explain.

No crashes - just the random pop up loading screens.

So, I have been running the 64 bit client the past two days, here are my findings:

Are you still running into issues with the audio?

Yes. I am having quest dialogue randomly cut weirdly in the middle of sentences, as well as music cues (like bards, for example in Haven) cutting out weirdly when exiting and entering taverns and teleporting at wayshrines and going into different zones.

Are you still seeing any pink or missing textures?

Nope, none so far! Even in Hew's Bane.

    Are you experiencing any crashes?

I had a couple of crashes immediately upon logging in. No other crashes to report.

Are you running the game with any addons?

    No addons running.

So far, the 64bit client seems to be running far more smoothly, and graphically is much smoother and less jagged, with much less in the way of pop ins etc.

I had 2 crashes today - one was not submitted, no crash report window - but another window came up, which stated, that the physics engine has stopped working due to pending loading operations. I had just logged in, mounted my horse and was riding for like 20m then it crashed. The other crash was submitted and I have commented on this in the crash logger.

No, this seems to be fixed for me. Textures actually load much faster than the 32 bit client.

YES. It is mostly after playing for a long time (3 or more hours), then the game will just suddenly crash. 32 bit client is stable, only see the crashes on 64 bit.

I don't know if this is an important information but it regards the strange noise you hear in the 64 bit client:

When you alt tap out of the game and enter another window then all normal sounds are muted and gone. Not so for the random noise sounds in the 64 bit client. Those sounds can still be heard while in a different window.

Yep still getting missing NPC dialogue, still getting random sounds(doors opening when miles from nearest structure in cyrodiil ect), still getting bursts of loud white noise, still getting looping audio (rez'd at north morrowind gate the other night with the sound of a fire ballister firing every 2-3 secs until I atl-f4), still getting sound cutting out completely during large fights in cyrodiil.

Are you still seeing any pink or missing textures?

Not seen any for a couple of patches now

    Nope no crashes

1.Are you still running into issues with the audio?

-Yes, I get issues during heavy siege, high ping, major lag moments at keeps in PvP/Cyrodiil. Normally, I just lose most or all of my sound during these moments, which can last for several minutes.

2.Are you still seeing any pink or missing textures? •If so, how often?

    -No.

3.Are you experiencing any crashes? •If so, what were you doing when you crashed? Did you receive any specific error message?

-Yes, I still get crashes with 64-bit. They are very random and sudden. Sometimes, they'll happen 10 minutes into a gaming session. Other times, they happen about after an hour or so. They happen in both PvP and PvE areas. I'll instantly get a crash of the game to a black screen, and will have to alt-tab or bring up task manager and manually close the client to resolve. I do not run the 64-bit client, mainly due to this very issue.

4.Are you running the game with any addons? •If so, which ones?

-Yes, just basic ones, all up-to-date: Srendarr, Kill Counter, Mini-map, LoreBooks, SkyShards.

    Hope that helps.
