Feedback for 64-bit Client

I am sad to report that after the last patch the 64bit client is MUCH worse than before.

The main reason being, before the patch, audio would cut out and skip constantly in combat. However, after the patch audio instead LAGS (it still cuts out). The more you play, the more sound effects lag behind, to the point that it gets to over 1 sec delay between activating an ability and the sound playing.

The thing that makes this unplayable whereas the pre-patch cut-outs were at least something you could turn off, is that abilities themselves now start to lag as well when the sound does. This part was NOT happening before the patch. Hitting light attack or Steel Tornado will start taking the same 1-2 seconds the audio is taking. This is with a ping between 100ms and 130ms for the entire test.

Are you still running into issues with the audio?

YES. Unplayable as of latest patch.

If so, what specifically are you having trouble with? This could include incorrect sounds, static, or missing audio.

Audio still cuts out, however now it gradually (over about 2 minutes) ramps up an increasing lag where it takes the sounds that do play up to 2 seconds to do so. Worse, actually ability use ALSO lags as the sound does, which did not happen pre-patch.

Are you still seeing any pink or missing textures?

No. Was rare (maybe 1 in 10 loads) pre-patch though.

    Are you experiencing any crashes?

    Usually after 1 hour.

If so, what were you doing when you crashed? Did you receive any specific error message?

Normal combat. "ESO has stopped responding."

Are you running the game with any addons?

    Not for the tests.

    ADDITIONALLY:

The problem with spawning mobs being invisible for the first 3 seconds IS still a problem. Tested in Coldharbour on the stage of the final quest where you have unlocked the Fighters Guild portal and are headed to the Mages, where the three waves of daedra spawn at the gate followed by a boss daedra and minions.

I was being hit for 1-3 seconds, including CC, before they even showed up visually.

    SYSTEM:

    Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
    i7-3770k @ 4.2ghz
    16 GB RAM @ 2100 mhz
    NVIDIA GTX 780
    Creative X-Fi dedicated audio.

System rock solid stable super pi and runs anything else (Dying Light, GTAV5, Fallout 4, fully modded Skyrim, etc) at max settings, no crashes, no problems.

Nice try, but this sound fix DEFINITELY made things worse. NOT the droids we're looking for!

    @Ysne58

You'll need to launch the 64 bit executable file strIght from your directory. I think the file is called eso64.exe

In the most recent PC/Mac incremental patch (2.3.9), we implemented a number of fixes for the 64-bit client. If you have a machine that meets the requirements, we’d love to get some feedback from you on how the client is performing. Once you manually launch the 64-bit client and play the game for a bit, please answer the following questions:
    1. Are you still running into issues with the audio?
      • If so, what specifically are you having trouble with? This could include incorrect sounds, static, or missing audio.
    2. Are you still seeing any pink or missing textures?
      • If so, how often?
    3. Are you experiencing any crashes?
      • If so, what were you doing when you crashed? Did you receive any specific error message?
    4. Are you running the game with any addons?
      • If so, which ones?
      • Note that out-of-date addons may cause you to run into issues, so please make sure they are up to date or temporarily disable them.
    Thanks for your help!

Well, I took my Breton Templar out for a spin for this.

I am still running into issues with audio.
    • Shortly after I entered the game, the music suddenly stopped. It restarted a few minutes later, but softer. I think that it was playing too loud at the start.
    • Nearby sounds are still acting strange from time to time. This is really hard to pin down as to what I am hearing. It seems like random sounds, but it could be that they are just too loud for the distance to the sound. So, for example, the wind will be really loud for just a second, or a little scorpion critter will sound like it is right underfoot instead of a few meters away, or I will hear what sounds like a splash of water when there is no water nearby, or bubbling water, or the sound of a metal weapon being sharpened. Sometimes the sounds are cut off. It happens intermittently, and can startle me. NOTE: It might also be old sounds that are being repeated. For example, I was near a ship and heard creaking wood. After that, not before, I started hearing that sound at a good distance from the ship at different times while still in the area.
    • Occasionally, some of the sounds are nothing but static. This does not happen very often. It can be pretty loud. Could be anything, but for me it happened once when looting a container, once when walking past a critter, once while standing after looting (right after that creaking wood sound from above), once while running through shallow water (water sound played correctly).
    • A couple of the messages that popped up after I leveled (large white letters on the screen) plays a sound as it happens. That sound had an additional sound at the end after it had been quiet for a second or two. The sound at the end reminded me of a quick "stick in, pull out" sound for something squishy. Other popup messages (discovered location, quest started, etc) did not do this. I leveled up twice, only happened the first time. (I might have leveled up three times, but someone turned off the cake while I was playing  )
    • Occasionally, an expected sound will not play. This can be that nice sound that says "the dude over there saw me" so I know to watch to see if he follows. It can also be one of the container sounds, chopping wood, etc. I might not notice other missing sounds.
    • Skyshards have a different tone to them. Seems like it is lower and flat. (Just thought I would mention it)

I will say that audio is marginally better. The loud bursts of static are must less frequent for me, but I would still play with the sound turned down.

I have not yet had any trouble with textures in this version.

I have not had any crashes, or out of memory, in this version.

I am running three add-ons during this experiment: More Target Information, Bag Space Indicator, and a private add on for watching things like FPS, latency, etc. All are up to date.

    Played 112 mins.

The game ran very well before the Thieves DLC.

After that, I started getting blue or white pixelated graphics on the ground for footprints and things like spells. I had the occasional pink characters and crashes too.

I repaired and adjusted some setting and the pink characters went away as did the crashes. The blue/white ground graphics continued.

I've had one crash since this week's update but quite a bit more lag. Blue/white stuff remain.

    No add-ons.

[*] Are you still running into issues with the audio?
If so, what specifically are you having trouble with? This could include incorrect sounds, static, or missing audio.

Yes. Random static noises, and some background noises get stuck in a loop until you re-zone.

[*] Are you still seeing any pink or missing textures?
I did not see any of these.

[*] Are you experiencing any crashes?
[*] If so, what were you doing when you crashed? Did you receive any specific error message?

Crash to desktop pretty much every 30 minutes.

[*] Are you running the game with any addons?
    [*] If so, which ones?

FTC (just the frames and damage/heal stats), AUI (just the minimap), Srendarr, Master Merchant, Awesome Guild Store, Kill Counter, CraftStore, Wykkyd Toolbar

    Additionally:
Lag is much worse on the 64bit client versus the 32bit client. I was repeatedly experiencing 5+ second lag spikes. Running a ping in the background showed these were not internet related on my end. Switched to 32bit... "normal" lag patterns.

Weapon swapping often succeeds, but doesn't show the weapon on the other bar. Example: toon running bar destro & bar 2 DW. Weapon swap to bar 2 -- still shows destro staff, but skills swap correctly. Problem persists until you rezone.

I am not experiencing the FPS drops others are reporting.

    System:
    Windows 10 64-bit; i5-4690; 24GB RAM, Radeon R9 380x video

I've only noticed one minor issue with audio since the update. If I use the undaunted spider silk spray thing, then follow it up closely with a swallow soul attack, the swallow soul attack is silent. The sounds for those only start working once the spider spray sound finishes.

The orc mercenary veterans spoke out loud for the first time for me, so I guess I had more than I knew was wrong prior to last night.

Haven't seen any pink/purple textures for over a week now so let's hope that stays that way :P

No crashes in the last few days, but had plenty early last week. Hopefully you guys check the crash reports that get sent in.

    1. Are you still running into issues with the audio? Yes.
      • If so, what specifically are you having trouble with? This could include incorrect sounds, static, or missing audio.
Missing audio from NPC dialogue in quests (randomly).
Thematic music cuts out at odd times during combat (e.g. after killing initial adds at a dolmen), instead of transitioning smoothly.
Lots of random weird unexpected effect noises, that are annoying and break immersion. Anything from waterfalls to bells and of course lots of static. Weird audio effects occur every couple of minutes or so, typically? i.e. not constantly.
    2. Are you still seeing any pink or missing textures? Not yet! (improvement!)
    3. Are you experiencing any crashes? Not yet.
    4. Are you running the game with any addons? Yes.
      • If so, which ones?
FTC, Sous Chef, Harvens Improved Skills, Destinations, lorebooks, skyshards, and a couple of others. None audio-related.
PC / NA. I still usually use the 32-bit client so far, although that is starting to have more framerate drop issues, hence trying out the 64-bit client again today.

Just an update to my original post.

There is also (before this patch, have not extensively tested this build) a MAJOR delay before you can use a synergy. Normally you can use a synergy almost immediately (assuming you have not done so recently), but on the 64-bit client, I would have to wait several seconds before I could synergize. Needless to say this is VERY bad for some mechanics.

I only noticed the above with player skills(spear shards), not game synergies (venom grenades in vMA/vICP).

For the record, my PC specs:

I logged in for about 40 mins last night. Still had audio issues. One sound - usually the most annoying one possible - goes into a continuous loop and doesn't stop until I have moved quite far away from the original source of the sound. Last night it was some sort of screaming animal noise that started as I wayshrined into Abah's Landing and didn't go away until I went into the city itself.

It has also done it previously with the noise of a bee and some sort of demonic baby noise - possibly something from a banekin.

Didn't see any pink textures last night but 40 mins and just a few quests isn't really enough time to form any sort of judgement on that as it was pretty random anyway - certainly seems better than at first when there were pink horses everywhere.

I've not (yet?) had more issues with audio.

I've not had issues with textures in a few weeks.

I did however crash again today. I was at the Julianos crafting table, had the interface open but not actively doing anything (was in another window on the pc that instant looking something up) when the game crashed. Unfortunately I hit the wrong key so the crash report was cancelled instead of submitted. But crashing still happens.

Zenimax, do you also need hardware based information, perhaps?

If it will help, I've got the same kind of problems with 64bit client, mainly audio (hissing, various sound effects, static etc.) with two entirely different PC hardware set. In the past there was a lot of pink textures, but that appears to be fixed now. Also, game never crashed on my system (only once or twice on 64bit).

    In the past it was:

    i5-2400 CPU
    Gigabyte Z68A chipset
    8GB DDR3
    GTX950 2gb
    Realtek ALC889 Hi-def codec
    Win10 PRO

    Now its:

    i7-6500
    Asus H170 PRO
    16GB DDR4
    GTX950 2GB
    Realtek ALC887 Hi-def codec
    Win10 PRO

    Same audio problems.

I'd go to attack an enemy (teleport strike), then try to line up a Wrecking Blow... and more often than not I'd end up just standing there, my attacks not going off. I'd usually die and/or the enemy would fall back out of range before the attack would trigger.

Wanted to add to my above post. The longer I play with this recent patch the more I notice a bug where sound effect start changing. It's not that I'm hearing random sound effects, it's just that sounds across the board start changing (such as my Shadow Disguise becoming a "twang"). This happens almost 100% after an hour of play.

Here is my experience so far while questing on PC NA:

    1. NPC conversation audio that does not kick in till I select a conversation option. Basically, they're introductory preamble is silent while their animation plays out.
    2. Battle cues either coming in late or incorrectly. The result was a screech.
    3. Incorrect battle sounds all together. For example, I was fighting a spirit at Ezduiin and heard the cue of a tiger/lion.
    4. A scream (my toon?) while collecting a skyshard.
    5. Sheep bleating sound played when I chopped wood in Belkarth.
    6. Fwiw, most of my random static noises has occurred in Craglorn.
    7. Terrible loop of something playing near Great Bay Wayshrine in Wrothgar. Got progressively worse as I neared the shipwrecks. Best I can approximate would be a shaking tambourine. Upon relog, stymied by 'logging in' message. Just gave up, killed game and started over.

That being said, the audio is vastly improved, to the point that I can turn my sound back up. The game no longer sounds like a Beatles record being played backwards.

    ;)

And zero pink/missing textures so far.

Been running the 64 bit client for 4 hours now without any artifacts or sound bugs.

Initially in the first 15 min or so it was very slow to load textures but over time it became faster and faster and faster which probably is because I have 24 gigs of rams in my laptop.

You still see the long distance textures when you close in on buildings at high speed but they switch to hi rez very quickly.
