Anyone else have a problem with the DX11 move?

I have a video card that supports DirectX 11, but I am still amazed at the lack of respect that the ZOS had with yours customers.

Worse, it had no graphical improvement at all in the game to justify this exchange! Moreover, for several years we had many games that supported DX9 and DX11 at the same time!

I am outraged, but it could be worse if I had been one of the harmed by this company!

Seriously, you really do want to look at the link I posted earlier. I'll do you a favour and post it again.

    http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/videocard/

For those that can't be bothered to click on it, I'll give you a summary. DX11 ruled for October, November and December and probably for the previous months as well. Want to guess which was in the lead for January and February?

    Go on, have a guess....

You're close but not quite there...

Yes that's right, DX8 or lower.... DX9 hardly anyone has got.

That is a very strange anomaly in the data. It seems completely unreasonable to me that 80% of Steam users would have DirectX 11 compatible GPUs in October, but only 16% of them would in February. I'll see if I can reach out to a contact at Valve about this, but I doubt she'll have any more incite than I do.

the entire chart is awkward, just take a look at the "other cards" fluctuation...

I guess I'll have to buy another one in a couple of months if mine only supports DX11,and save it for that ugly rainy day to come. XD

    What card did you buy?

    I bought this one:
    MSI ATI Radeon HD6450 1 GB DDR3 VGA/DVI/HDMI Low Profile PCI-Express Video Card R6450-MD1GD3/LP

It's all I could get at the immediate moment.I had to borrow for it,but no problem. My pal actually owes me $40.00. Hehehe.

Has 4.5 stars on amazon.com. Looks like you got a good card. :)

I'm just praying that it works with W10.It says it works with W7,so,..fingers crossed. I got it at Amazon.com,so if it doesnt work,I can return it for one that will, though I may have to pay a bit more.

Ooooh, you're running on Windows 10? I found this about the card, it may be handy to bookmark this for future reference, but it seems like this person got it working with Windows 10. Let us know how it runs ESO when you get it all settled in!

Edit: I had a derp moment and forgot to hyperlink. Whoops! My bad! Sorry. xD

Jeez,..I dont know even half of what the person was talking about.I am praying this will work.I bookmarked the site in case I have to do as he did with the driver situation.
    Thank you oodles for the help.Highly appreciated. :}

To be fair most of that guy's issues in the review were because of his dual monitor setup.

Well,I just have one real concern about the video card. The cable,if it is different than my PCs is.I'll find out tomorrow or the next day.

Most likely it's DVI or HDMI... or both. It might also have multiple of each. If you are using an old VGA monitor you might as well buy a new monitor. These days the difference between a TV and a computer monitor is so low that you could buy pretty much any old small HD flat panel for like $100

I just bought a new Hannspree Monitor.About three months ago.

Oh silly me, you must have meant the connection inside the computer. PCI/PCIe probably unless there's already a new standard. As for the PSU connection (if it has one) IDK. My computer is 6 years old but I put in a new card last year so I can run DX11. Possibly 12 if I upgraded to Windows 10 which I am still debating if I should do. I would if most new games will be using DX12 in the coming year.

The specs for the card is too low for the game. Even intel haswell graphics can run the game on low smoothly but this card scores slightly below the intel card. You can play the game on low at best if you are lucky. Its not the price of the card that matters but you need to look at benchmarks and know which card has better support for which games.

Software matters because games are released broken and graphics card manufacturers have to write specific driver code to make the game run smoothly. That is the sad state of meeting unrealistic deadlines and player expectations.

Even Intel HD Graphics 4000 which comes with free with some processors will have relatively good performance on ESO. You may have better luck getting a refurbished Radeon HD 8350.

Someone here who runs this card recommended it and a couple of other people have said it will work. Also,it supports DX11.My PC is good to go otherwise.
    Also,it's really just a quick fix,until I can get a better one.

I'm using an even older card than that. Radeon HD 5670. The first in the series to support DX11, if I remember correctly. My operating system is also Windows 10. The game runs fine. Busy cities sometimes cause some stutters here and there but otherwise stable 40-50 fps. Texture quality and subsampling are high, water and shadows are low, view distance is medium. All additional effects (like bloom, magelight, grass, etc.) are turned on. It's pretty far from playing on the lowest settings. This is what my game looks like:

I might have something to do while I wait for my PC after all since I suck at playing Agario! Thanks for that information! I mean I could play Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim again, but bleh. I'll be installing mods for months and months or making my own before I'd actually sit down and play. Meshing is highly addictive.

I don't want to derail the thread too much, but for an interesting challenge, try a game like Wizardry VII: Crusaders of the Dark Savant or Might & Magic VI: The Mandate of Heaven. Both of these should provide for hours of entertainment to anyone who doesn't balk at the idea of playing Atari games. Both are available on GOG.com should you be so inclined.

It's the dumbest choice a company can make.

Dropping 2 dx versions, and only support 1.

Take an example to your predecessor Blizzard.

They tweak and modify their engine yearly.

And new graphical features are always optional and not a forced turd down people's throats.

Hence the reason why Blizzard's Wow is still the best leading MMO-franchise.
Not because that their current content is great ( for it's garbage in my opinion) but their customer friendly services, is what makes people love it.

I really really really feel ripped off at the moment.

I was completely un-aware of the dx changes in the game.

And I even took an new subscription of 60 days for the new dlc.
For as we all know. DLC's needs to be purchased or is included with subscription.
And is a stand-alone instance separated from the main story vanilla setting.

and now that recently spend money ALL WENT DOWN THE FREAKING GUTTER.

Zennimax & Bethesda managing to steal another 27 euros.

Most hilarious part of it all is that current retail shops still are selling the game on discs with packages that state that the game supports dx9 and 10.

Oooooh my god, I've forgotten about Might & Magic. Those games were always fun. I'll have a looksee at Wizardry VII too! But even though the Atari was before my time, I could never gawk at it. Without that, I'd have never have gotten my consoles back before I turned to PC games. Which I found my old SNES too, FFIII and Secret of Mana. God those games were amazing. Nostalgia!

I took up extra shifts at my second job (really my second job is more or less not for just more money, but to get into a career I really want to get into). Apparently the 6450 works, so there's that. My R5 integrated card should work if the 5670's working. I know it's at least DX11. Some places says it has it right at DX11.0 and other places like GameDebate has it at DX11.2. So there's hope that this thing'll work out of the box. Still looking at cards for it though, just in case. But this information is helpful!

    So for sure old(ish) cards that are confirmed working on an appropriate rig;

    Radeon HD 5670
    Radeon HD 6450

Lemme know if there are others I can add on this list that are for sure working!

Can you show me where I said hardly any pc users use steam?
Read through the following. It has a great bit on where it seems that you're insinuating the notion that hardly any PC users are anywhere close to a form of the majority for statistical data. Which again, how is this -relevant-? We're derailing too much here with this anyways. We're trying to figure out why this is relevant. Stewart linked it because there's something interesting about Febuary's listing, that there are a lot more DX8 cards being used rather than DX11. They just commented that it was odd, nothing about that the majority of ESO uses Steam and therefore inconclusive in that stance. There's simply not enough information to this to make heads or tails of it.
    Tandor wrote: »
I think you are overestimating how many PC users use steam. I never have. Noone I know uses steam or origin etc. We spend a LOT of money too being older gentlemen with disposable income. My opinion steam is mainly kids and guys under 25.

To be honest, I think that's an out-of-date view. Steam is now very much the platform of choice for very many gamers, it creates a simple means of installing, updating, accessing and removing games as well as having its own discussion boards and providing easy communications between friends regardless of what they're doing or playing. I don't use it socially but I do use it as my platform of choice for any new games (but didn't switch ESO to it as the terms weren't favourable if you already had the game when it launched on Steam).

And no, I don't fit your suggested demographic - by a good 40 years  !

I know literally 100s of gamers. I know noone who uses steam. So I know you assume because you and your buddies at school use it that everyone does. That is not the case tho.

Lol I like how his friends using Steam means nothing but yours not using it is somehow supposed to be relevant. Steam has over 100 million active users according to the data they released. They control majority of the PC gaming market your anecdotal evidence doesn't change that.

100 million users WORLDWIDE. Also active users can mean the same person on multiple accounts. Considering there are over 1 billion people just in the united states and europe alone kinda puts your number in context.

I've actually got a theory about that. Their survey is not actually based on what hardware is installed but what hardware the games require to run it. However, Christmas is a social event, so gamers, like everyone else, would meet up and talk. This talk compares new games with old and the rose tinted glasses are put on. The end result after the Christmas period old games are accessed and played resulting in changes to data collected.

It's probably because of the CPU, the classic games are usually on the really old 400 MHz processors. so the modern mulit cores can blast through all the calculation needed resulting in a faster game. Admittedly though it doesn't show dew drops on a blade of grass like you might see on DX11 machines though but I always went for depth and game play over looking pretty.

That's about how I do too. I basically got this rig up and running to at least play Skyrim and it did pretty well with it. I was pretty surprised, especially with how old the hardware was. Even ran 7 Days to Die, not well, but it still ran and I was able to do things/survive. WELL... Until my friends like... Ganked me for the lulz. It even played State of Decay okayish. Dunno which of those I preferred.

But this is all good information! I can at least somewhat salvage Morrowind, which is good. I mean I can play with the low FPS, but bleh. I didn't even want to attempt Arena or Daggerfall with it. Oblivion I could run on max. Morrowind, even on low I was getting the same FPS as I was on max settings. Vanilla too.

I just hope that when I get all settled in and back into the game that I can see a difference between being on a DX10 (all the stuff prior to TG) to a DX11 (after TG). Has anything changed much effects wise?

In other words, every couple of years,I may need to buy another video card,..on and on and on.With no end of money having to be spent.

(on a different note, every time I pull up Chrome,I keep getting tons of redirects.Especially on this site above the others.)

    35l9jt0.png

Nice pic. I didnt need to change my settings in graphics, other than to lighten the gamma. This new card does me well.

Yup.No problems with the card. However, after the new patch,I had a massive problem. The game stuck and I crashed. Then,I had to reload Windows 10,a whole new system.THEN,I now am downloading the game.I started a couple of hours or so ago,and am now at 14%. XD

Nice pic. I didnt need to change my settings in graphics, other than to lighten the gamma. This new card does me well.

How many frames are you getting with it, Volkodav?

I dont know off hand.I'll send you a message later when I am ingame. I''m going there after I finish eating.I am typing while eating a bun cut in half, toasted with butter and strawberries on one half,Butter and Bananas on the other.Oh,..and of course, hot coffee.
    (I just thought I'd tell you.XD)

NICE. xD I'm currently debating Subway or chimichangas for lunch. D:

    Ooooo,..tough choice there.

    It is. xD

But I'm very pleased to hear that this card worked right out of the box. That's encouraging news!

Yup.No problems with the card. However, after the new patch,I had a massive problem. The game stuck and I crashed. Then,I had to reload Windows 10,a whole new system.THEN,I now am downloading the game.I started a couple of hours or so ago,and am now at 14%. XD

Make a system image or back your game files up to an external hard drive. No need to download the game again.

I have heard of the eventual coming of DX12 as well,in rumors in the forums but nothing official. So,this new inexpensive card I just bought might not support that too.
In other words, every couple of years,I may need to buy another video card,..on and on and on.With no end of money having to be spent.

(on a different note, every time I pull up Chrome,I keep getting tons of redirects.Especially on this site above the others.)

I do feel for the people that are indeed experiencing bad issues with the change in DX workings. However I must admit I am glad that I have not gone through any bad issues at all involving DX. My system has been playing smooth the whole time, before and after the update with the exception of playing ESO beta waaaayyyy back in the past before the game officially came out.

I'm just glad I'm apart of the group with no problems. I sure hope ZOS can help the people with problems soon.
