lol I've got 2 magicka tanks (a Templar and a Dragonknight - I've mostly neglected the tanking on my DK until recently because he's DC and I'm usually tanking with guildies on AD characters - the changes in being able to invite cross-faction mean that he's now coming out to play more). Both of them are far more likely to run into issues with magicka resource management than with stamina resource management... Of course, both of them are magicka builds on races that are generally seen more as stamina races (the magicka Templar is a Redguard, and the magicka Dragonknight is an Imperial), and I use all gold tri-stat enchants on all of their gear, and use purple tri-stat food while tanking, so they've got good pools of resources for all 3 stats.
Are you referring to the one time when you waited for the tank to pull the boss? lol Bwa ha ha! Mine is an evil laugh! I have yet to see evidence of this claim...
The bottom line for a tank is to find the stat distribution/skill bar setup that works for you. There's more than one way to play a tank successfully, so as long as you can succeed in the content your way without being a handicap to your group, that's what matters. Just for reference, here's a pretty recent screenshot of my Templar tank's stats in his tanking setup (note that I swap between tank setup, healer setup, and DPS setup with him by swapping gear and skill bars - in his tank setup he uses 5 heavy, 1 medium, 1 light and sword & board on both bars).
Yeah. I have a (mostly) magicka based Argonian DK tank. I use sword + board on both slots and yet I only have one stamina-based skill (pierce armor). I'm only VR9 right now, but so far I've had no trouble tanking any of the vet dungeons at VR16. If anyone were to analyze my stat distribution and glyph choices, they'd probably have an aneurysm, but IDGAF - it works for me. I don't have the DPS that I probably could have, but that's not why I'm added to groups in the first place...
I use +hp/+stam food (because I'm too cheap to use tri-stat food, and my magicka pool rarely runs out anyway). I brew my own tri-pots and my Argonian passives take care of the rest.

One of the better tanks on my friends list is a Nightblade magicka sap-tank. I really need to ask her about her setup - one of these days I'd like to try out a Nightblade tank. So far I've only tanked as a Templar (where I've done most of my tanking) and a Dragonknight. I'm pretty sure I could tank pretty easily on a Sorcerer by shield-stacking (I could be wrong as I haven't actually tried, but it seems reasonable to me), but it seems to me like tanking on a Nightblade requires more careful consideration to what skills to use/slot and just generally how to do your build.Oldmanlawlor wrote: »Me; Why do you keep kicking me from group finder?!

It didn't stop me from tanking - or even change my tanking style at all. Tanks who perma-blocked may have quit tanking. Tanks who only blocked when it was actually important to block barely noticed the change.
Thanks - that's helpful!zmobie_dementor wrote: »
I've tried a number of set-ups with various degrees of success; right now I'm trying 5x Armour Master, 2x Bloodspawn, 2x Footman's, 3x Healthy Willpower - I don't hate it but I think I'm gonna swap out the 2x Footman's with something that gives me some extra resist or even stamina rather than health because I don't think this will work in vICP (haven't tried yet, since the patch -- I was fine in vWGT, but that dungeon doesn't have the Overfiend or Ibomez's flesh atronachs). I use Harness Magicka to proc Armour Master. Enchants are all health on armour, jewelry is one shield-play, two spell power. I also want to try swapping Armour Master for heavy reinforced Kagrenac's Hope.
My trials setup is 5x Armour Master, 5x Footman's, 2x Bloodspawn or Engine Guardian. I really want to try Lord Warden but he just refuses to give me his hat.In veteran Maw of Lorkhaj I think I want to run reinforced Hist Bark over Armour Master just so I don't have to keep casting Double Take in trash pulls as they get pretty hectic. (I could run all the normal content in Trials mode of course but I like being able to have reliable self-healing + a bit of damage in case I'm in a PUG.) Enchants are all health and shield-play for jewelry.
Attributes-wise, I stack everything in Magicka for regular vet content (including ICP/WGT/DSA) but for trials I distribute it so I have 30K health, 20K Stam, and 20K magicka. Mundus stone is Atronach for regular vet dungeons, Lover or Lady for trials, depending on which of my resistances is not quite past cap when fully buffed.
My bars are brand-new right now due to the SA+Caltrops nerf, I'm not 100% sure about them yet:
[1] Pierce Armour | Funnel Health | Harness Magicka | Sap Essence | Dark Shades | Aggressive Horn
[2] Inner Fire | flex | Harness Magicka | Refreshing Path | Siphoning Attacks | Bolstering Darkness
The flex slot has either Impale (for bosses) or Double Take (for trash pulls). In Trials, I have Defensive Stance on the front bar in place of Sap Essence and Double Take on the back.
I think that about covers it, let me know if you need to know anything else.

That's why I said that perma-blocking tanks may have quit tanking, and why in other posts here I've said that I'd like to see changes made not for my own benefit (I don't need it, and it's unlikely to change my tanking playstyle), but to encourage more people to tank.
I also have a V16 dk I have tanked on. Doesn't change the fact that after the stam changes, whether justified or not tanks have become harder to find.

Also, there's another issue. I taunt all the mobs, can buff the group and sustain my resources, I never have issues with inhibitor's portals and stuff like this, but... I cant do anything if the group is bad (well, except standing in a group of mobs watching them scratching my shield) So pugging on a tank is quite risky considering how many people join as "dds" just because thay cant tank or heal, even though they cant do damage as well.
Those 2 issues are the reason why there's not enough tanks imo.
Please, no. Prioritizing and controlling threats a big part of tanking skill. Otherwise you are just a turtle with a taunt.

Even with an AoE taunt you would still need to know when to use it. You can't just taunt the world and block in ESO or you will get chewed up very quickly.
Any time. ^_^Thanks - that's helpful!
Personally I vastly prefer Armour Master over Hist Bark, but that's partly because I proc it with Shuffle, so Hist Bark is kind of made redundant by that... For a magicka Nightblade with access to Double Take or Mirage I can see why you wouldn't be using Shuffle to proc it, though (you wouldn't want to waste the stamina when there are other ways to get a dodge chance), so I could see Hist Bark actually being useful for when you're not using Double Take.
The Lord Warden was nice enough to give me his shiny hat, but I don't have a shoulder to go with itWe seem to have opposite problems there.

And I guarantee you've run that dungeon way more times than me lol. I think I've only ever completed it on vet mode once...zmobie_dementor wrote: »I have THREE Warden shoulders. Three.

That would actually be a really interesting way to balance an AoE taunt...
Sure, it would make it easy to AoE trash mobs down, but if the taunt has a huge range and attracts the world and his mom, you might want to think twice about inviting everyone over...
It would be hilarious to see tanks taunting everything within 50 yards, then wiping the group when they get steamrolled by two bosses and all their minions from two rooms away.
AOE taunt with cool down. Sounds good to me on paper
A week ago we were running a group of about 9 people, all v16 as far as I recall. We went and killed Molag Bal a few times and came back. We ran into a Tank, 9 people on her for five minutes and we couldn't dent her. I have not come across such a tank in my almost one year of playing.
I was baffled and rattled and flabbergasted. So was my group.
