ZOS could you please close threads that are too old?

I mean 3-4 months old and sometimes threads from 2014 are being necromanced.

The game has changed so much since then, that new players could easily get misinformed by reading some of the old topics and discussions. If any of the old threads contain relevant discussions to how the game is today, people can start a new thread and simply put in a link to the old thread.

:/

    why is this a thread?

1; I can read, so I don't bother with necrobumped stuff unless I specifically look for it.

2: it takes a fraction of a second to skip a topic.

Crybabies will always find something to cry about.

If a thread is still relevant just "linking to an old one" is inefficient and needless. If a thread is a resurrected that is still relevant, it is left alone. If not, the mods lock it. I regularly edit old posts to make sure they are up to date before I relink them, and some old posts are just for fun and there is no expiration date. People still post to those old thread and learn something/enjoy themselves.

@ommyboy people can make a new thread, and link toward the old thread. I am not against discussing old topics that still hold relevance.

@babylon I don't know if I should that that as a compliment or go and roleplay insulted :p

@tinythinker sorry but I have lately seen too many necromanced threads around, and it takes 1-2 days before they are no longer on the front page in General Discussion. I didn't knew that moderators actually shut old threads like that ...if they do, I'm happy.

Tbh. I don't mind the tiddledoo threads that are made for social purposes. I just worry that new players who try to seek help for various things, such as gear, through the forums, stumble on currently active threads that contain information that is outdated and think it is relevant for today since the thread is still running.

I believe @ZOS_AlanG is our normal contact regarding forums updates.

Seeing so many threads getting bumped recently might be a sign it's time to lock threads without replies for more than x time period.
Additionally I do notice when you use search it doesn't tend to list threads in chronological order, so you have threads from 2014 as your first search hit sometimes, this could be adding to the issue.

If ppl want their own threads closed all they have to do is click to report their own thread and ask it be closed.

Other than that...maybe it's good old threads stay open especially when it's a QnA or bug, error and such

But it's funny to see people resurrect a thread nearly two years old and complain that back in May 2014 they knew nothing about the game!

We're always happy to collect forum feedback. There does seem to be an uptick in necromancy recently. This may be lore appropriate, given the main plot of ESO, but zombie threads can be disruptive and confusing. It does appear that some of this is caused by new users searching for content and inadvertently posting in old threads.

We did investigate functionality to close older threads about a year ago. We had some issues with how the available tools operated, so we chose not to implement it. If this changes we may be able to reconsider.

Reminds me of an old thread on the BethSoft forums. Threads there are locked at ~200 posts, initially to avoid database issues, and later because we found it helped keep discussions fresh.

Someone had a half-joking thread about the moderators locking threads too early, at 195 or so instead of 200. It eventually received a straight-faced "Locked for nearing the post limit" around post 70 or so. Good times. On that note, @babylon, I've sunk this thread ;)

@ZOS_AlanG thank you for your post, and sorry to hear that the available tools aren't good enough to be implemented :/

Btw. zombie social threads can be fun and tend to cheer people up, usually there is no harm in necromancing those :P
