Skill reset?

Considering the large amount of changes to skills/abilities, will there be a skill reset this time when the new DLC drops?

We don't currently have plans to offer a skill reset. If it was something we did do, it would still be an automatic reset upon login as we haven't developed a way to let you reset on your own yet (so it would be like previous times we had a skill reset).

You got me. People do like to complain though so maybe they didn't have anything to complain about on that particular day

edit: and for the record I have 6 Characters I use regularly. MagNB, 2xStamNB, 2xMagTemp, StamTemp along with a MagDK and MagSorc I play from time to time as well. I manage just fine with skill resets.

Because they don't remember where they had their skill points (more-so in a situation where they actively play 8 characters). Although, personally I didn't always remember either, but with so many changes it's highly likely I didn't want them back where they were anyways.

I think most complaints are about the reset being forced on players the moment they log in, whereas some games give a respec token in the mail that can be used flexibly, while some other games make an automatic reset to the nearest match to the old build accompanied by respec tokens as well.

If you run a dozen characters (as I do) it can be a pain. I'm not against it, so long as it's only used when absolutely necessary, but I'd far rather my PvE skills didn't have to change and be reset in the first place every time the PvPers complain about the balancing

Simple solution is to ask ZOS to make it optional. I would like the ability on my main, but if I had 7 alts I might be a bit choked. A simple YES/NO when the patch dropped would suffice IMO.

edit: Gina was quicker on the post than I was. It still would be nice if they worked on it though.

I second this..

Can add one to everyones inventory so they can use it and be happy, or they can save it for a rainy day and be happy then.

What about the time ZOS let us respec for 1gold per point? Could always do that again....

EDIT: Maybe a lot of you were not playing when they did this, but once in the past when they had a major overhaul of the game they reduced the cost of respecs to 1 gold per point for 1 week. It was awesome and really let you play around with the new skills and best of all was OPTIONAL. No reason this can't happen again. @ZOS_GinaBruno

i dont believe / think that people were angry about the "skill reset" in general.
i think what people were saying was:

" where we are forced to go around a very small rock in the landscape, and places and things in eso that we feel we are forced into a certain action rather then making a choice as we are accustomed to in previous elderscrolls titles and other mmo's, instead we felt as tho we were being pushed into and forced to rebuild all of our skills just because a few small changes were made in respect to some skill changes.

having a simple "free respec" tome, or writ in our inventory is something that i have allways seen 100% of the time in ALL mmo's i have played since the past 16 years playing mmo's.

when i saw rich lambert on the eso LIVE show say

"Fine, you dont want skill resets? we wont do that any more then

"

it made me feel like he was honestly offended that it was requested, this is amazing and disturbing that he would respond that way.
almost as if there was zero desire to compensate or even understand the players point of view.

Would be nice to have a free respec option.
Wpuld it be possible to tie it to the first login and let the respec shrine display a free option for 24 hours?

I'm disappointed they have no plans to allow us to respec with all these changes they have made. I was hoping they give us a skill and a Champion Point reset due to the magnitude of the changes. They are significant enough to change the way my character has been built.

What about a free reset of champion points with the upcoming changes to the system with the Thieves Guild DLC

Champion System

The Apprentice
Elemental Expert: This ability now increases Flame, Frost, Shock, and Magic Damage dealt by you, instead of Flame, Frost, and Shock Damage only.
Spell Erosion: Updated this ability’s tooltip to indicate it has always given a flat value of Spell Penetration that scales with your level. We also increased the value of Spell Penetration by 167% to counterbalance the Spell Resistance granted by Spell Shield.

The Atronach
Blade Expert: This ability now increases the Light and Heavy Attack damage of all melee weapons (swords, axes, maces, and daggers), instead of swords and daggers only. We also renamed this ability to Melee Weapon Expert.
Heavy Weapon Expert: This ability now increases your damage against damage shields, instead of increasing your damage with maces and axes. We also renamed this ability to Shattering Blows.

The Lady
Critical Leech: Updated this ability’s tooltip to indicate it only procs on direct damage abilities, and not damage over time abilities.

The Steed
Medium Armor Focus: This ability now grants a flat amount of Physical Resistance per point spent that scales with your level, instead of granting a percentage increase to Physical Resistance.
Spell Shield: This ability now grants a flat amount of Spell Resistance per point spent that scales with your level, instead of granting a percentage increase to Spell Resist.

I don't think it will be fair to charge a player 3000 gold to reallocate his or her champion points to reflect these changes and move points around.

Here's a simple solution -- ZOS, for each toon a player has that is VR1 or higher give them 3000 to pay for a reset of champion points. For all characters give them 50 gold per skill point so they can pray at the Shrine to Stendarr. If they lucked out and don't need a change (which I find highly unlikely given the massive scope of this change) they win a mini-lottery. It would take one developer all of an afternoon to write the code for this and test it. Make it so.

@ZOS_GinaBruno Can you go part-way and give us a free and automatic respec of morphs? For 90% of the people who are respecing, it's really only the morphs they care about.

Oh, and we definitely do need a CP reset because of the huge number of changes there. I know you guys have a way to do it, because you had a forced respec for people over the cap in the last DLC.

Nobody asked for the respecs to be taken away. What people (including myself) asked for was for the respecs to not be forced respecs. Go back to what was done in the past and make respecs super cheap (I believe it was 1 gold/skill point) for a short period of time after the update and everyone is happy. This way you can also try out new builds, and then switch things around if the changes don't leave you with a build that you like.

@ZOS_GinaBruno Please don't force reset again, why not give us time limited respec scrolls from the crown store . Have say a 24hr time on them which would be plenty time to test the new set up and decide OURSELVES if we want the re-spec or not. After the 24hours if we didnt use the scroll it would disappear from our inventory. Problem solved and everyone happy.

Create a Character-bound scroll for each of our characters, so we can decide for ourselves if we want to use it or not.

Seriously. It really is only fair to offer respecs after big balance updates. The scroll respecs are bound anyways, so you can't trade them. Is it not possible to send out a scroll to everyone, or make each character's next visit to respec shrine free?
