Thieves Guild on PTS - 2/3/16

Healing are capped to 6 target, but aoe hit 64 target. 6 at full damage, 18 at half damage, the rest for 10% damage. Combined with steel tornado especially (because of his double execute ability, but proxy det also need a lot of calculation), it ask for a lot of calculation. With 64 or even 24 target at full damage, the among of calculation will drop a lot, and zerg won't be able to survive as well as actually, so even less lag. It won't bring down all the lag, but it will certainly help.

If heals cap at 6 targets, how are 12 man trials going to work?
You use 2 Healers. Not that complicated.
  • chrissouza7ub17_ESO
Who's to say the two heals don't heal the same 6 targets. Doesn't make sense. takes more computation for the system to make decisions as to which folks get healed and which don't rather than just heal anything in a certain radius.

@UrQuan , yes and he goes for their eyes :) . And I would certainly like to read from the community ambassador his rationale why removing Aoe caps for damaging skills will increase the calculations ( unless he prefers his safehaven)

Sure because math and 7,8,9,10,11,12,13, etc checks is larger than 6 checks. This means more calculations! Seems simple.

The issue I see is that currently, the game has to calculate which targets receive how much damage. This involves caluclations of every player's distance to the "epicenter" of the AoE attack to deal the most damage to those closest to that point. In a scenario without AoE caps, there is simply a check if a player is in the target area. Further, as has already been mentioned, the damage coefficient would be the same for every player hit by the AoE (100%), so that calculation could be omitted as well.

I don't know which scenario comes out on top in terms of least caluclations, but these things should be kept in mind.

@chrissouza7ub17_ESO , probably will change the mecanic and oblige people to stack differently. Probably would also increase the amount of magika dps doing support healing and gives more place to inbetween class role. I don't see it as Something that would be this bad at some point.

Maybe it's just me, but thinking about manticore, you split in two group most dps stay with tank a support healer and a main healer as well for healing while the dps move out of range and receive the spear thrown at them. So two main heal and two support healer should do.

So basicly I do see it fit, and oblige player to play a more open field fight, which gives lower benefice to higher and more powerfull raider... And also gives new headaches to the trial leader ! :persevere:

Removing AOE caps won't do crap to help lag and won't do crap to breakup zergs. No AOE caps make HEALING zergs easier.

... Are you kidding? Try to know at least a little bit about what you are talking about before you post. Okay so first off "Removing AOE caps won't do crap to help lag"- If AOE caps were removed the server would have to send messages for each person within range. The server already does this, at the present time the server calculates everyone who is in range of the AOE, then ON TOP OF THAT it calculates who the 6 closest people were in the single instance. So in other words it processes MUCH more with an AOE cap.

"Won't do crap to break up zergs"- This is highly debatable, but there is one thing about this that cannot be debated, if there were no AOE caps then balling up into one tiny area with a large group would run a huge risk of being killed by a small group of skilled players.

"No AOE caps make HEALING zergs easier"- Aoe caps on healing spells would not be removed,

But offensive aoe cap need a lot of calculation and reinforce zerg. So why not removing offensive aoe cap without modifying the heal aoe cap ?

So now the AOE cap argument is they're fine if they benefit "my" play style or the outcome I want?

No not to benefit a single play style to balance the game.

I don't know how you got to be a "Community Ambassador", but I would like to vote that you get demoted. Healing in the game use Smart heals so the heals will go to the lowest health Targets first than so on and so forth. Also might not be 100% on this but the heals won't heal the same person twice and the same with people with full Health those players will not get healed.

What I can't fathom is this whole business of "formatting the Patch notes." I mean, for realsies? ZOS decided to start formatting it one the day of release? And not perhaps the day before? Or what would have been much more sensible, last week.

I find it fairly hard to believe, or more accurately it is so horrendous an idea that I refuse to entertain it, that they were still unsure last week as to what this update would actually contain, and thus could not "format the Patch Notes." It should have been done by last Friday, and then maybe gone over during Monday and Tuesday by few people to weed out any possible omissions or errors.

Thus the notes should have been done and ready this morning and they should've hit the Forums the moment the server maintenance begun, as the first thing in the morning.

And we should've been spending the day digesting them instead of doing meme threads and getting ever more antsy about the lack of information.

ZOS, in it's usual manner, fails to realize just how much is riding on these updates. Thieves Guild is going to be released pretty close to the games second anniversary, and two years is a long time. And if this update still fails to fix the issues of game balance, borked skills and horrid lag, then I would not be surprised to see mass migration of people from ESO to something else. I know that at least for me this update is a make it or break it point for this game.

I'm not sure why I expected patch notes like an hour after ZOS was supposed to start patching PTS, which was 5,5 hours ago. Oh well, I'm not paying for patch notes after all.

Edit: wow I did it guys, as soon as I started typing Gina came! Thanks! xD

People generally have 1 healer for every 5-6 people in PVP ball groups. Do you not use a similar tactic in PVE, or do you rely on a single healer to keep a 12 man group alive? If so, heals definitely need a nerf.

Formatting might be - put them in order customer can understand and properly grouped by topic, not in order that make sense to devs to be sure they are there or the order they check them, whatever. Seen crazier things in ITville. ;)

On that note, waiting because I am writing an article on this stuff and we are supposed to be in edit mode this month, not writing fresh stuff. ;) Though it might be the first time something I write comes out just days before it goes live instead of the month after. Gotta love quarterly mag timing. ;) I just have to cram it and have next week to make people edit it. LOL!

    This. ^

Doing distance calculation to determine closest 6, then the closest 25 is a lot more demanding than the actual damage reduction calculation you do after that.

When attempting to install PTS it simply says i don't have the hard drive space with out telling me how much space is needed. I can't remove Live ESO for room, though I really have no interest in playing Live as PTS is what will determine if ESO live is worth having on my hard drive.

@Essiaga According to system requirements, required hard drive space is around 85 GB. This is just for unpacking the data; final space usage is around 45-50 GB (depending on how much new stuff is added in this patch).
