My favorite part of this thread was how I calculated 12 hours based on 180 days, but intentionally wrote 120 days which would only be 8 hours.

Which is really all you need if you consider Stamina to still be a junk stat relative to the others.

You don't need to play for 20 hours to feed again. Also, horses are much better now than they were at launch.

I think this is a hold-over from when ESO had a mandatory subscription, along with crafting research taking (ever-increasing amount of) real-life time and daily hireling mail.

It was an added incentive to keep up your subscription, even if you weren't really playing, so you could log in for the time-gated stuff so you weren't 'behind' when you started playing regularly again.

Which makes me think they could just get rid of it since they don't need to give us an incentive to log in every day any more, but maybe the crown store version would be even less appealing than it already is (and I'm sceptical that many people buy them already) if the alterative was a straight forward gold cost.

Worse horse system in any game period.

I don't log on every day to upgrade my mount, I log on to play fun combat.

*I don't log on every day anyways, thus the 50 days per skill line is probably more like 100 days.

They have stables in Cyrodill, takes like 30 secs of your time… and it's 60 per skill so more like 120 days.

    60x3 = 180

It could be justified to keep this going if our mounts actually did something besides run, (i.e. training your pet to attack as a pet.)

Training your mount with money is not P2W. Especially since anyone with enough CP can get the War Horse passive. P2W would be if while mounted you gained some unfair advantage. You can run faster if you buy the lessons but you'll still die in PVP the same >:D

Only gripe i have about mount training is the fact upgrades bought via crown store should be account wide.

Apart from that its annoying but fine, they give you instant access to a 40% movement speed skill when you hit lvl 10?

Stop wanting the game to be handed to you OP.

I can't believe some of you people are ok with a full horse upgrade taking 2400 hours or $180

I don't know what you are smoking, but it costs $0 to fully upgrade your riding skills. 250 gold each day, or 45000 gold total, no real money at all. Of course that takes 180 days.

You want it faster, oh the shock. That costs money. Guess what? That's how a BTP game should work. A balance of time versus $$. You want it faster, you pay. Otherwise you can have it slower.

You want that Imperial Motif? Grind dressers (and the like) and hope to get luck (time) or fork over some cash. Or pay $50k in a guild store.

You don't have to pay ANY money to play this game after you've bought it. You can get anything in game, just don't expect it tomorrow for nothing.

Bad analogy is bad...the Motif requires investing time in grinding the item or grinding the gold to buy the item, but horse training requires waiting for a real world offline clock to count 20 hours.

If I want the Imperial Motif, I can simply buy it for gold in a guild store RIGHT NOW, and if I'm currently poor, spend whatever time it takes to earn the gold grinding in game, all at my own pace (no elapsed time duration gates).

If I want to train up my horse, I can't do anything but wait offline until the next 20 hour cycle elapses. No amount of grinding in-game will let me train any faster than once every 20 hours.

And trait training is similar and just as annoying, because it CANNOT be progressed any faster than the elapsed time duration gates, regardless of how much time and effort someone is willing to invest.

I and I think many in this thread are not asking for instant log in and fully maxed horse training, but rather reasonable in-game methods to progress horse training based on in-game effort without being blocked by elapsed time duration gates.

If this is so great, why don't we add elapsed time duration gates to everything - players putting forth effort in game shouldn't be able to earn more than one level, champ point, ability level, etc in a 20 hour cycle, should they?

Lol...you'd hate Eve Online...don't ever try it. Everything in that game is trained in real time.

I do think if you buy the upgrades it should be account wide for that price though.

Actually this is one thing I've read from the OP today that I actually agree with. Horse upgrades are ridiculous atm. They may have been worse before but they are still ridiculous now.

There are no in game ways to even reduce the time similar to crafting. Just store, not even ESO plus, just store, buy it or lump it... The prices are equally ridiculous when combined and compared to other things in the store. Said it before and I'll say it again, imho this should be re-evaluated, its not good.

The old horse system would have made OP kick puppies or run down orphans or something. That's a lot of rage over a mount system.

I've read enough of this thread.

Firstly - You're bad at math. 180 upgrades spaced 20 hours apart (if timed exactly) = 3600 hours.
Secondly - It's timed so you can realistically upgrade once a day. So it's 180 days \ 6 months if you login every day
Thirdly - ZoS tries to have you make choices. You can max out 1 specialty on the horse (carry, speed, or stamina) in 60 days \ 2 months. This is how horses worked before ESO 2.0. You could level your horse up to 50 and specialize in ONE of those attributes only (or evenly suck at all of them).
Fourthly - Your horse matters so little in this game you don't need to upgrade it at all (the 60 extra inventory slots is helpful though).
Fifthly - If you really need your horse upgraded that desperately, I think $180.00 is more than fair. I'm glad the people who play for 10+ hours a day have to wait for something or pay for it.

Nah.. the mount upgrade system is good. It's fine as it is. Adds to the in game "routine" which is nice. If you don't like the routine and don't like waiting, you can pay for it.
