My opinion wouldn't change due to a company decision.

As stated many times, I completely understand why people want it, but I personally don't plan to use it and would prefer it not to be on the consoles due to how these types of features are poorly implemented and the use of many which becomes a toxic environment or just spam.

All of this is based on my personally experiences of using it in a very similar UI on PC under the game pad UI (BETA).

For those who do plan on using it...I really hope this is done in a way that doesn't mimic the obstacles I've experienced on PC. As we read how it was announced, I think most assume that this means, it will be like what is on PC. For the sake of those who have spent countless hours fighting for this...I hope to some extent, this announce is what you've asked for.

I can only imagine the feedback if its a text chat custom radial chat and some other text chat for zone.
ZOS often surprises me so again...for the sake of those who do want this...I hope its what you think and functional. I may sound crazy but...based off the last ESO live statement where its said...
”Is it possible we could have a text chat? Yes. Will we? I don’t think we can safely say one way or another. It probably is safe to say if we add a more text centric way to chat it won’t be a straight chat window.”

compare to this:
Enable text chat on consoles later this year to help players – if they wish – to communicate zone-wide with other players, have easier access to emotes, and be able to chat with others using text instead of voice. This will be optional, and we will continue to fully support voice chat on console as the primary means of communication.

What i don't get is these have been on going issues. A lot of people are going nuts with ZOS's silence on these. But they will release these fixes in a year long plan? Why wouldn't they just say wait for the beginning of the year Plan. A year is a LONG time. Its very vague and general. But its SOMETHING vs silence.

Also I agree with most. Some of these issues/addons should have been at launch. AKA a LFG system that ... my god...Lets just say getting 1 dungeon que to pop in a week of playing is just ... no words. Chat would be a no brainer. Im not sure who thought mixing voice chat with 20 people in a room works or being able to "whisper" or talk to other people in somethng like a zone would work??? For group content yes.

Scaled content should have been a given from the start considering how all the other elder scrolls games worked. ( think GW2 but better)

Vet Levels are awkward. I dont see why they need to be removed instead of being just changed to say lvl 70 cap etc. Going back in levels is a bad thing in my opinion. The whole reason to play is to level up. Get better gear. Thats akin to saying they will roll back all the stats on armor after everyone has had this armor for months.

That being said im GLAD these changes are coming. Most of these are the reason I quit playing. Im a social person. Im a dungeon delver. I am a healer. I havnt played in 6 month or so but i look at the forums every day which shows my want to play the game. Its just in such a bad state with the bugs and very poor balance vs other games that time is better spent. Happy for you guys that have stuck around and you finally get what youve been waiting for. Shame is too late though.

If nothing else, it proves that if enough gamers get together and nag, nag, nag the developer then eventually they get what they want.

Either that, or so many people have left that they have been forced to introduce it in a panic. Money talks.

Probably the latter.. I know a few people that left because of it. I'm not the only one however. Yeah granted i'm back now but but im gonna stay longer now all the stuff I wanted in will be in

So basically they now have my money back.

It's a shame they'll have lost a big majority of perspective console mmoers by not having it at launch, but better late than never!
I will actually be able to play this incredible game as a mmo, the way it is designed to be played, and not some *** single player co-op rpg.

We can finally build a community in game instead of wandering around in silent depression wondering if anyone else is actually playing the game.

I had almost given up, and had gone back to DCUO this week for the 5th anniversary.
It's amazing how a last gen 5 yr old console mmo still has such an awesome thriving community, but it would have never had been possible without text communication.

I really hope there is a decent population left by the time they get this out.
With this announcement and Arenas on the way as well i can honestly say i am back to being majorly stoked for this game again.
Instead of being the biggest dissapointment of my 30+ years gaming, this could end up turning into one of the most satisfying games I've played.

HOLEY SHEET ZOS!!! It's about time. All I can say now is, thank you. Text chat and a couple of the other changes coming renews my faith in the direction this game is going.

To the naysayers in some of the above posts. I have to ask. Have you ever played a mmorpg before? Because it seems as though you haven't. Many FTP MMO's have terrible text chat systems but I doubt that will be the case here.

Given ZOS's track record, I really hope they can implement a well thought out chat system. I played FFXI for 8 years on phoenix server and their text chat system was amazing. From what I've seen in videos, FFXIV took that system and made it better. Having several channels, zone, linkshell / guild, trade, whisper and world. Being able to translate common phrases and being able to switch between seeing profanity or not.

Most people coming from other console mmo's like me or the ones who have their PCs plugged into their TVs have no problem using a keyboard from their couch or recliner. There are the chatpads for both systems now too.

If your still saying "No, I don't wanna." Then turn it off and keep playing as you have been.

To those of us who think this is a good / great thing. WOOOOHOOOO! CONGRATS!

And yet they never once acknowleded the console text chat issue on the forums or ESO Live. Despite them saying consoles will get text chat I'm not really inspired by their announcement. I guess we will see what happens later this year.

I feel the same way. It is a shame they could not acknowledged it on the forums before, or even after the announcement. For me I moved on to PC and will most likely stay because it sounds as if text chat will not be coming until late 2016. If they add it in the next DLC then there is a good change I move back to console, so I will wait and see.

Yep square enix has the text mastered hands down. There are customizations for every aspect of the box and font, as well as dozens of canned phrases that automatically translate to whatever the language is for the receiving user. You can highlight any item in your inventory and that wil also translate.

Well to be fair eso already got a toxic enviroment on console. All the time people are fighting in game chat.

And yeah i agree hope it is done well,I am glad they are finally showing support for us and people who are disabled deaf etc

I am looking forward to see The game finally getting more sense of community with text chat coming. People starting fun events like they do on PC.

Well with text chat coming to consoles, they might just get more people to buy the game, that is if they don't force the requirment of having the theives guild dlc to do it then they would lose even more players. I play on pc so not ever going to play this on one of the newer consoles.

I just realized this will bring more Pugs into PVP of PVE players forming Zergs all spamming Mutgen to get AP.More AP for me because killing PVErs is easy but the Lag some of you guys will bring will be horrible.

I like that they acknowledged that voice chat will still be the primary way to communicate. I don't care if you have a keyboard. If you join my group without a mic you are getting dropped.

I am afraid that this will split how people communicate and lead to even less of a feeling of community but only time will tell.

It won't split the community. Its no secret I support text chat but I, like you, will require a mic when doing group content. The text chat will be our form of mass communication.

Group content Mic is a most you can't blame him while PVPing or during a Trail you need everyone on mics one person messing up because he was typing out a mong message that could have taken 2 seconds to say could cause your whole group to wipe.In groups text chat shouldn't even be used Voice chat is the best option 9/10.All consoles come with a Mic when you buy it.So you should have one I don't care if you use Headphones talk.

I use a mic when grouping. That wasn't my point. My point was if people start behaving like he said he would, then a rift will be created and lead to exactly what he was afraid of happening
